£24.99 for two steak meals and a bottle of red , worth a shot , so we went , a party of four ,booked a table for 8.00 and told the receptionist we were going to try the steak deal , we were seated and only had to wait 45 minutes for the wine to turn up ( actually it wasn't bad ) the waitress told us they had run out of sirloin steaks ( funny because we had booked and told them what we were after???) we told her this and she said "well we have run out of tomatoes as well" we asked to see someone in charge , out came the chef , and what a nice guy , he apologised offered us fillet steak , ok we agreed , steak was ok , hand cut chips were very nice , mushrooms were good , onion rings just a tad over done , but for £25 a pair you really cant complain , although I did , yes if you are at a loose end , give it a go
We used booking dot com to book a night at the Embassy and I phoned them the next day to confirm and all was good. A week before arrival Dave rang and said they had a booking error and they'd moved us to the Gable End hotel, over a mile from where we wanted to be. I requested they find somewhere closer and Dave rang the next day to say he'd got us a room at the Comfort, we took it because it was round the corner from the Embassy. OK so the staff are OK but the hotel is well dated 30+ years old fixtures and fittings! Our 8 year old grandson said as we entered the room. "we're only staying one night here aren't we"! All other recent comments are spot on really.
After arriving and being told that the “parking” was just anywhere you could get a space within the roads around the hotel, we checked in. The man behind reception was quite rude when we mentioned the parking. He said it just says parking on the site, not that it’s onsite parking. So up we went to the third floor.... with our 3 year old & bags... with no lift and the narrowest, steepest staircases I’ve ever seen in a hotel. The room was nice and big, but in need of a complete make over. The bathroom was clean but no water pressure, a badly fitting toilet seat, shelves that were wobbling, and a door that didn’t quite shut. The room itself had uneven floors, badly positioned plug sockets, bodged woodwork, and awful beds. The mattresses were unevenly worn and you rolled to one side when you got in. Also we managed to be positioned above, what I can only imagine was the kitchen extractor fans, and so barely got any sleep. There was just a constant whirling/clunking noise. I’m really glad we was only there one night as I don’t think I could have taken anymore. The only reason I’ve given poor and not terrible is that even though everything was awful, at least everywhere was very clean.
This hotel should be re inspected as it is in no way a three star establishment. The rooms have not been updated in at least 20 years. The beds are uncomfortable. The bathrooms are dirty, with a shower curtain that should be incinerated. It has a prime location - which is an asset - but would never entertain staying there again, until it is gutted.
We stayed 2 nights, the staff were great, especially the man on reception at night (possibly called wayne), he was very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the meal was lovely, and plenty on the plate.....however the breakfast was overpriced, and just watch you don't burn yourself getting the hot food. The room was completely different from the picture i saw when i booked, so was quite disappointing when we walked in it! Needs a complete overhaul , the bathroom door wouldn't shut properly and had no lock on it, the shower was pretty much useless no water pressure and was hard to keep a constant water temperature. needs more plugs in the room, all in all it was very drab and looked like an afterthought. And could hear lots of slamming doors in the middle of the night, all that being said it was a cheap room for a family of 4, so suppose can't complain too much.
Stayed for one night thank goodness!!! All the staff we met were excellent. Especially the young lady who served us our breakfast and the lady on reception whose customer service was second to none. However we can only grade this hotel as terrible due to the room we stayed in. The room was damp and the smell of damp was over whelming. There was a dehumidifier in the middle of the room. The curtains were hanging of the rail and the mismatched furniture was shabby, the decor was dirty and scruffy. We had requested a walk in shower and were given the star suite which had disabled facilities. We did question this at the time but were informed that this was the only walk in shower in the hotel. We had wrongly thought we would get shower cubicle. If we had booked for more than one night we would of not stayed. This hotel needs a damp corse and complete and utter renovation.
Stayed on 3rd floor , very quiet room , very clean , shower was a bit hit and miss hot water wise !! staff very friendly and helpful and always smiling !! One hiccup there was no lift but staff were very helpful in taking cases up and down stairs . The food was very good, breakfast and evening meals . Sunday carvery was delicious all cooked fresh food and plenty of it . Would definately stay again .
Stayed overnight for a wedding! Clean rooms and lovely staff. Rooms are dated and need refurbishing but were some of the cleanest I have ever stayed in. Bed was comfy and room a good size. Breakfast was really good. Lots of choice - cereal, yoghurt, fruit, full English, coffee, tea and lovely brown or white bread for toast. Staff were really helpful and welcoming and room prices were good. Right near the seafront too! No car park and finding a space on the road wasn't easy!
Had a 2 night stay here, room rather small considering we had 2 dogs. Appeared to be over the kitchen! Strong smell of cooking and noise from extractor fan. The hotel is a work in progress, some areas are better than others. Staff polite and helpful. Ate once in the restaurant steak and chips, average meal but not keen on oven chips. Overall not bad but would wait to see if things improve before booking again.
The room was a little small, needed a good paint on skirting boards, depends how fussy you are, didn't bother me as we only slept in our room was out most of the time untill late in the evening. Hotel is being done up. Staff very friendly, breakfast was good, good choice of cereals and juices, fried breakfast. Comfy bed.beach 2 minutes walk.Would definatley stay again.
