Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center at Oyster Point

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

This is an old hotel in a decent area, but there were quite a few people hanging around outside. There was even a teenage girl sitting inside the front entrance asking the guests for money. The hotel used to be a smoking hotel when it was the Omni, and the smell of smoke is still in the floors, pillows and sheets. There were visible rips in bed skirts, the blinds were broken and didn't close all of the way, and the towels were hard. The price was decent, so you do get what you pay for.

I stayed here a couple years ago and it has completely changed for the worst. Pool was out of order. Everything was under construction and the staff needed customer service training. I'm not very hard to please and this hotel didn't even come close to making me content. Do not go there if you want a visit that's comfortable or even safe for that matter.

The hotel was good for the price. However, the hotel is under new management and it seems that they might not be operating at 100, perhaps 90.

I had a awesome birthday week. We visited family as well as celebrated my birthday.

This a a fabulous hotel for the money. The indoor pool and whirlpool make it so much better. The rooms are nice size and clean

the staff was friendly the hotel was clean. and in a nice location. i was very happy with my stay thier and would recommend this hotel to others it was a reasonable price they only thing that they could improve on is the selection of vending machine food. to choose from.

My stay is always great. I stay there occasionally and they are always kind and considerate. Will stay again.

This by far was the worse experience. Microtel Inn was better than this. I was trying not to give them a bad review but if I attempt to call the Mgr. and you never get them, and you give them at least 30 days to return your call and you hear nothing, to me, that means they do not care about customer satisfaction. The room was not fully clean, hair was on the bed, in the bathroom, on the floors, tub was dirty. When I called the manager to the room the first day, I got the excuse, the staff is not wearing their hair nets, the bathrooms need to be re-done, the tubs are just stained. Oh, and they spray for bugs, that's why the one in the bathroom was dead. Again, I tried not to leave a bad review. For 30+ days I tried. My bed was not changed the complete 4 days I stayed there. I complained to the staff and to mgmt. I have yet to hear from Mr. Nate. I will be taking this matter past just leaving this review. This hotel is definitely NOT the OMNI. And I'm sure they do not stand up to other MAGNUS' HOTEL STAR stands.

Don't let 3 stars fool you, this hotel is a steal for the price.

The only bad experience was trying to park after dark. There is a night club attached to the hotel, and the parking lot is full. They need designated/reserved parking for hotel guests.

Bath tub was kind of grungy and both times we had to go to desk no one was there . Did not seem friendly at all

The pool and the room were great. The person who checked us in to our room acted like she really did not want to be there, and we seemed to be a annoyance in her day. Overall I would recommend. Price was great!

Great for travelers looking for just overnight stays... Pool was good, great lobby to watch football game! Hotel was old though but offer convenient stay... Don't expect too much on the room...

Everything was great except the pool. Not sure if they put to too much chemicals in it but I didn't date to get in it. Chemicals were floating on top.

We stay here just one night and for sure will book it againg. Place is super close to the airport and many shoppings.

The king size bed room is comfortable but the double beds are very hard and not comfortable. The rest of the stay was great.

It was fun the room was nice and neat I the a/c was really cold and great customer service

I really enjoyed most of my stay. The only thing that was wrong was the attitude of the housekeeping's supervisor.

If you like dusty and dank mildew ridden rooms then stay here.

The hotel is conveniently located near Christopher Newport University.
