We used timeshare points here so I can't comment on value for money. Our unit was clean, spacious and offered great views of the river and bridge into Newport. Location is close and convenient to the highway into Newport and close to downtown Jamestown.
Stayed in 2 bedroom for a week. Lots of greenery and bunnies and deer who show themselves outside near patio. Large units; furniture a little outdated but clean and comfortable. Nice pool and beautiful views. Views of Newport Bridge from the pool if you don’t have a Water view. Great service. Staff from sister hotel delivered tools to eat our lobsters.
There units are decent. We like it but it needs a dehumidifier desperately. Even the kitchen level smells awful. Not a great layout for families of three. A bunk bed and twin would be preferable. We have been coming for years and the location is great. The hot tub isn’t hot though.
To start off we must say that the staff at Wyndham Bay View (where you check in) were absolutely wonderful! After the hustle and bustle of our 3 night stay at Wyndham Onshore (which we LOVED!) Wyndham Newport Overlook told the other side of the story. A little difficult to access and not all units faced the water as ours did, but other than that it was wonderful. Someone told us these used to be condos so they are much larger than usual Wyndham units. We were fortunate to have a patio and an upstairs balcony that were right on the water's edge. The thing we really liked was that the living room and master bedroom window stretched the width of the rooms allowing us constant view of the bay and bridge without being outside, so even on the rainy day, it was lovely! Not much to see and do in Jamestown though there is Chopmist Charlie's, a great little eatery. Amazing ocean views and sunsets at Point Judith Lighthouse and be sure to head up the 1A to Narragansett area - beautiful! If you want the nature portion of the Newport area, this is the place to be!
Nice little place to stay overlooking Narragansett River and Harbor. Pleasant little pool and hot tub, every unit has grill and patio. Walking distance to Jamestown and it's activities, and only about 3 miles drive or a fun "ferry" excursion into Newport.
We were disappointed with RCI and the resort not having our reservation. Not a good way to start a vacation the resort tried very very hard to make up the disapoinment to us and our friends. Thankyou to the resort.
The Newport Overlook was a peaceful place with great soundproofing so the neighbor's sounds stayed in their places. We watched rabbits and birds from our terraces and porches. The living room and kitchen are on the second floor which gave us great views of water and far off bridges. The hot tub was empty with caution tape around it but the pool was open.
I coudn't have been happier with this gem of a property. Mind you it's not a "resort" per se, there is a pool/hot tub and that's about it. The beach is rocky but a quarter mile away there is a nice flat beach, you can walk or drive. The location is fantastic if you enjoy privacy and quiet, off the beaten path right on the shore overlooking the bridge to Newport. There isn't much immediately around and if you're not keen on driving everywhere, this might be not for you, however it was perfect in our case. The units are great! we had townhouse #8, which was an end unit, and a different floor plan than the rest. Standard plan has bedrooms and baths upstairs, this was a much better layout with one bedroom/bath downstairs and master in a kind of a loft (no door off the stairs going up). Even with that, the down stairs is laid out really well so the lack of door isn't an issue. Kitchen is good size, living/dining too. We had everything we needed, a run to the grocery store provides for great savings from eating out. Aside from toll to go to Newport everything is close, but even in Jamestown and other side (opposite of Newport) has plenty to do and see. This was a very nice stay and i highly recommend it.
Lotta ants in our first unit. They graciously moved us . Not very spacious, heating seemed challenging ,too hot upstairs, too cold downstairs. The little things ..no can opener, dead batteries in remotes are over look able. The garage and grill was definitely a plus. The view...of “the bridge” overcomes the glimpse of the water. Newport under-bridge is a better name. Maybe I hit it at the wrong time, ( office was under construction? So you must travel a bit to get to staff)it seemed like a high end motel then a Wyndham property. if your looking for a place just to sleep ( like a motel) this will do.
My family, which was a party of four adults stayed at the Overlook last week. There were no problems checking in, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out we had a two floor townhouse with more than enough room. The unit had a partial view of the bay and very nice green surroundings. The location itself does not have much to do, but there are very nice activities in nearby Newport and beautiful scenery in Jamestown itself. The only complaint I have about staying in Jamestown is most things of interest are in Newport and you must go over the bridge which will cost 8 dollars round trip! So traveling back and fourth each day will add up. But other than that we would strongly recommend the experience for someone who wants a relaxing getaway.
