great deal within Manhattan ...we loved it...highly recommended ...

Great. Bargain, helpful staff. Nice reading and Desk lights, bathroom clean and never busy. My first room didn't have a desk, switched with no problem. Sister hotel on 34 is nice too.

Nice boutique hotel. Charming old style hotel. I will stay there again

Clean, comfortable single bed room. About half the size of a standard hotel room, only place to sit was the bed. I had a sink, (I understand some rooms don't). There are 4 bathrooms on the floor with toilets and showers. They were very clean. Over 5 days never had to wait. The location was very good for my needs. Staff was friendly although had little interaction with them. Overall, if you just need a secure, clean, comfortable, inexpensive place to sleep in a very expensive city. This fits the bill well. My only complaint is that there is no vending machine on the premises, there is a 24 hour store about a block away but it would be nice to be able to get a Coke or a bottle of water without going out in the middle of the night in 35 degree rain.

Room is quite small but immaculately clean. Be sure to ask for one w/ a private sink @ no added cost. Hallway is very narrow but always quiet. Bathrooms are communal but always kept clean at all times.

Rooms are small but cozy. Very quiet even with the communal bathrooms off the hall. I had never stayed at a hotel with shared bathrooms but it was a small inconvenience.

Ok hotel the price considered and you only need a place to sleep in NY. However lack of hot water in one of the shared bathrooms. Good location close to Union Square.

Stayed for 3 nights; nice hotel with small room, clean shared bathrooms. No sink in the room, which was surprising; I have stayed at similar hotels with a room sink, which I find very convenient. No daily housekeeping of room, but not that critical for short stay.

Clean small rooms. Shared clean bathrooms. Close to many attractions.

I've stayed at Hotel 17 twice and it's fine, especially at the low rate I can get it through Orbitz. I don't mind the shared bathrooms, but be sure to ask for a room with a sink in it. That makes alot of difference when you don't have an en suite bathroom. I didn't have a problem accessing the bathroom - there are two for each half floor. My room was small (as are most NYC hotel rooms, not something I see as a problem), with a single bed. It's kind of bare bones, but a fine place to sleep for a night or two. Location is good, with easy access via the 14th Street crosstown bus to all the major subway lines along 14th Street. Wifi a bit unreliable, but that might have just been something that happened on the night I was there. I'm a long time NYC resident (almost 50 years in Manhattan), now living Upstate.

This hotel has old ny charm with modern, professional staff. Clean rooms and quiet for nyc. Rates are competitive and stay on track 7th floor was fine. This was my second stay.

Good ratio price/comfort/location. Close to the union Square - perfect underground reach to many lines. Quiet rooms and quiet area. Some people probably can not use a restroom correctly ;)

Nice location, near Union Station, charming, no trouble to share Bathroom

I stay here every time I am in nyc. Great staff, clean, good location, love it!

a budget stay by new york standards with shared bathrooms. decent availability of bathroom facilities. small basic rooms. allow luggage storage which is great.

Totally happy with Hotel 17 and will definitely stay there again!

The location was 3 blocks from the L train, the front desk staff was very nice, and the single room was just right for a one night stay. This is a historical building so the original woodwork is lovely. The wallpaper and decor is a little dated but that doesn't matter when you are sleeping! The small room featured a twin bed, hutch with desk, closet zone and TV/alarm clock nook, and a sink and mirror. The clean shower and toilet were across the hall but I never ran into any other guests on the floor. Just remember your key card when you go to the bathroom! The lighting was also very good and I liked that there was a dimmer above the bed for gentle light while watching TV. Overall, it was clean, quiet and a ridiculously cheap deal - I will stay here again.

Stayed 1 night here. Good location for East Village. On a quiet street off of 3rd ave. Old, well kept, had a nice feel about it. Far from trendy. One elevator in lobby with an old style swing door to enter. Nice touch. Room was narrow, less than my arm span. Bed, small side table. Book shelf at foot of bed with small TV. No satellite or cable so just antenna stations. sink with soap, towels etc. Not a room you want to stay in for other than sleep. A/C behind headboard noise a little distracting and it barely cooled this small space. Could not get WIFI to function. Called desk and they reset. Still didn't work. Front desk guy is not a Tech so I just gave up. No desk or table to work at. Just the bed. Shared bath (with 8? rooms?) is down the hall. I would not have wanted to be going down the hall to shower for multiple days. Was very quiet though. Saw only a few people in lobby. I needed a bed for a night and it sufficed. Was clean and well maintained. Nice historic ambiance.

The hotel is unique and quite the sight. The neighborhood is great, with Union Square just three-ish blocks away(usually something interesting going on there), along with many shops. Room was as expected: small but tidy and clean. The real gems, however, have got to be the cleaning staff/crew: not only were they friendly, but they kept the restrooms/showers in great condition during my stay. Front desk folks were also very helpful.
