This hotel was GREAT value for the money. Yes, the room was small, but that is common in NYC. The room, however, was tastefully decorated, with comfortable bed, reading light, mini-bar/fridge, safe, desk, TV...everything you'd expect in a nice hotel was there. The location is quiet: not in the middle of restaurants and bars or tourist attractions, but this being NYC, you do not need to go far for any of those. It is easy to get to by E subway train from Penn Station or JFK. The service was friendly if not the most efficient. Per advice from other reviewers, I did request a room with a window and got one. The "view" was of an inner courtyard. The place may get a bit claustrophobic if you are there more than a day or two, but if you are looking for a clean and comfortable place in a quiet neighborhood but still convenient, this would be a very good choice, at unbeatable value.
This is a very decent hotel for the price and location, but not the ritz. Service was fast and friendly. We had one minor problem in our room and someone was there to address it within 5 minutes. We stayed in a room with two double beds; those all rooms apparently have windows, although we did not have a view. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. As others have said, there is a small half closet. The room also had a safe, mini-fridge, iron and ironing board.
I'm actually presently at this hotel and unfortunately because I prepaid, I'm stuck in it. The hotel advertises basic double rooms on partner sites and nowhere anywhere in their description do they write that the rooms have no windows. I visited their sites and on it, they call them interior rooms, but again, no mention of NO WINDOWS. This site is a fraud. They do not properly advertise their rooms! When I wen to the desk to try and work it out, they referred me back to the site I reserved it through (United Airlines) and their concierge service also had no luck. They were stonewalled.
This hotel is right in the center of NYC which makes it easy to move around. Most attractions are simply a walk away, even with my 8 year old we didn’t struggle to walk to Central Park, Times Square, Empire State Building, etc. It’s a small well kept charming hotel with a wide selection of reading material made available in the rooms. There’s peace and quiet for a hotel that’s situated in the heart of NYC.
Carvi Hotel is fantastic, location is great walking distance to Times Square, Central Park and lots of other attractions. We had a room with no window which worried me at first but I soon changed my mind as you can shut out the hustle and bustle of New York it’s perfect! The beds are so comfortable and bathrooms lovely and modern. The reception staff are amazing and so happy to help they made our trip so much easier can’t thank them enough. Wouldn’t hesitate in staying again. Thank you
The bed is so great, the pillows and blankets are so soft. The location is also good, near the metro and near restaurants. The cleaning was very good, you also get free coffee. The shower is a bit small, but it was okay. Minibar is expensive.
My wife and I had to travel to NYC between Christmas and New Years because of a death in the family, and because of housing issues we ended up staying at the Carvi on two separate occasions, the first time for one night and the second for two nights. Both times, the Carvi more than met our needs and we highly recommend the hotel for anyone needed to stay in Midtown East for up to four nights. Perhaps more if you’ve packed light. PROS: 1. STAFF: Great staff can make a 3-star hotel seem like a 5-star hotel, and vice versa. The staff at the Carvi made us feel right at home at a very difficult time. They were professional yet compassionate and we can’t say enough about the quality of the staff at the Carvi. Top notch. 2. ROOM: For what some might label a budget to mid-range hotel, the beds were outstandingly comfortable. Surprisingly so, and more comfortable than at far more expensive hotels we’ve stayed at in NYC. And while the room size was a slight issue (see below), the room had (almost) everything you might need for a comfortable stay (again, see below). 3. BATHROOM: The bathrooms were surprisingly large and well appointed. There were good sized showers with fine products (e.g., shampoo, soap, etc.) and plenty of good towels. There were even dark colored washcloths for women to remove makeup with. A nice touch, we thought. 4. QUIET: We had two interior rooms during our stay, so never once heard any outside noise from the street. We also never heard any noise from the hallways outside our room, even though one of our rooms was directly off the the lobby. It made for a good nights sleep. 5. FREE WIFI: I always say, in this day and age of interconnectivity, any hotel that charges for WiFi should be shunned, and any hotel that charges for WiFi per device should be driven out of business. Luckily, the Carvi offers free, and surprisingly reliable, WiFi. 6. COFFEE MAKING IN-ROOM: This is completely a pet peeve of mine, but I hate when hotels don’t offer even the most rudimentary coffee and tea making in their rooms. Even instant coffee and a hot water kettle is fine. Once again, luckily, the Carvi has coffee and tea making in their rooms. 7. IN-ROOM SAFE: My wife and I live overseas, so we always have passports with us that we’d prefer not to carry around with us everywhere, so it was nice that the rooms at the Carvi supplied in-room safes. 8. LOCATION: I know this depends on each person’s need, but the location of the Carvi, which is only a few blocks from our family was perfect for our needs. It is also right next door to our favorite dim sum place in NYC, the Kung Fu Little Steamed Buns Ramen restaurant - fantastic food, particularly the xiao long bao (soup dumplings)! Ha! 9. IRON AND IRONING BOARD: This is always nice to have if you have nicer clothes with you. 10. COST: As I said, we had to travel to NYC between Christmas and New Years, one of the most expensive times of the year for hotels in NYC. The cost at the Carvi, however, was almost insanely cheap. The hotel definitely punches above its weight in terms of value for your money. CONS (all relatively minor): 1. ROOM SIZE: So, the rooms were pros for the reasons I listed previously, but one of the downsides is that the rooms, or should I say the more budget rooms we stayed in, were really small. Although, given the price it shouldn’t be that surprising. It wasn’t a problem for us because we left our larger luggage with family and packed light during our stays, but it might be problem for some with larger luggage, particularly because of… 2. STORAGE: In the rooms we had, there was VERY little storage. Again, this wasn’t much of an issue for us, but if you’ve packed suits or a lot of clothes that need to be hung up, you might find this problematic. This is why I think that the Carvi is perfect for shorter stays, but may be problematic for anyone wanting to stay longer term. 3. POWER OUTLETS: Another issue is there were hardly any power outlets available in the rooms. This could definitely be a problem if, like my wife and I, each person has multiple electronic devises (e.g., phone, laptop, tablet, etc.) to charge. 4. NO BAR/RESTAURANT: OK, so this is exceptionally minor, but the hotel is small and does not have a bar or restaurant attached to it. So, no nightcap before bed at the hotel. This didn’t bother us at all because there are plenty of bars in the neighborhood, there is a diner directly across the street for breakfast, and as I mentioned before, Kung Fu Little Steamed Buns Ramen is RIGHT NEXT DOOR! Haha! So, despite some relatively minor cons with the Carvi, we highly recommend the hotel for anyone wanting or needing to stay for a short time in Midtown East Manhattan, NYC.
We have just stayed here for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel first impressions very good the receptionist staff in the morning and evenings that we spoke to were so very polite and helpful always saying hello when we were passing through reception the room we had was very clean and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable always got a good sleep although the room had no window we didn't mind that. Great Base for visiting new York centrally located to most attractions 1st time visiting New York if we ever visit New York again would definitely stop here.
Have been here this week, stayed with a friend. The bed is a decent one, shower quite good, even though annoying that the shower head can not be taken off the hook, but water temperature was excellent. We’ve had an interior room, with no window so it was very quiet. I would’ve liked to know before booking that there is no window though, so perhaps advertising correctly with travel agents to avoid disappointment would be a good idea. The excellent addition to our stay was the super star receptionist lady: Lucy, who checked us in and was there through our whole stay. She couldn’t do enough to help us out with everything: directions, umbrellas, extra duvet, wine glasses, anything you want, name it and she’s there to help! In whole honesty, she’s a real asset to the hotel, such a welcoming and friendly, helpful Many thanks again Lucy and wishing you all the best!
Booked here for. 4 nights stay for our first break away in 14 years! The hotel staff were incredibly welcoming, the room although small was always clean and had lots of luxury. Had a great wired in sound system and a huge TV. We arrived from the uk without travel adapters so was very pleased to find sockets that charged direct from the USB. The ensuite was a good size and nicely done with a good shower. The staff remained so helpful throughout the trip giving us pointers on when to do things etc. The hotel itself is just off the 3rd Avenue on 55th street, only a 10 minute walk to time square, a metro station is literally minutes away to take you downtown or to the Bronx. It was nice and quiet and couldn’t hear any of the persistent beeping heard an avenue up! Will defiantly be staying here again.
