I rarely post negative reviews and did email the B&B before posting this, so they could respond. I have not had a reply so will post my concerns. We thought the house was lovely, including the reception area, reception rooms and the bedroom. Breakfast was very nice and just the right amount in my opinion. I was shocked at the condition of our bathroom, not the standard I would have expected and it did affect our stay. The shower/bath were a very poor set up and should be upgraded in my opinion.
Loved this place and the Garden District! The architecture of the house and the decor of our room were beautiful. The bathroom was a bit small but was well stocked with toiletry items and the bed was very comfortable. There was a minibar (on the honor system) to choose a beverage from and enjoy on the huge covered porch. The host gave us a great suggestion for dinner on Magazine St. The continental breakfast in the morning was delicious. While we were checking out there was a torrential downpour so she offered to hold our luggage if we wanted to wander out into the rain or she said we could wait it out in the living room. Would stay there again!
We loved our stay at the Sully mansion. The house is beautiful! Our room was at the back of the mansion with its own private entrance and courtyard and I was thrilled when I saw it. The house itself is amazing with beautiful antique furniture. Melinda the inn keeper was wonderful to us. We could not have asked for a better place to stay in New Orleans. In the heart of the Garden district and one block from the famous Commander’s Palace. Will recommend it to all our friends if they’re planning a trip to New Orleans, this is the place to stay and get a real feel of New Orleans.
It was a treat to stay at Sully Mansion. Our room was especially spacious with antique furniture and a king bed. The whole house is beautiful with antique furniture everywhere. Melinda was a wonderful host and especially accommodating. Breakfasts included french coffee, teas, fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, and croissants. Easy ride to downtown and the French Quarter, while Sully Mansion was nestled in the beautiful and relaxing Garden District amid numerous beautiful old houses. We would certainly stay there again on another trip to New Orleans.
For my birthday we spent a night in NOLA on our journey home from Florida. It was the best gift ever! Melinda, the innkeeper had contacted us earlier in the afternoon to assure us that our room was ready and where we could find a key if we arrived when she was out. We found Sully with no problem (thank you Siri) and easily parked on the street. The home is gorgeous, a blend of fabulous 19th century architecture and modern art and furnishings. While The Desire is the smallest room in the inn it is by no means "small." The furnishings are attractive, the bed very comfortable and it's tucked away in a quite corner. We found it delightful. We enjoyed our sazerac cocktail sitting in the evening breeze in the courtyard before dinner. Breakfast was served at 0800. It would have been nice if fresh brewed coffee had been available in the little beverage pantry upstairs earlier, but not an issue. The continental fare included hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit and pastries. It was all delicious and beautifully served, but that was our only mild disappointment--we are fans of the Southern style hot breakfast and would have loved some grits! We highly recommend the Sully and hope that we will return for another visit. It's the perfect place to spend your time in New Orleans.
We loved our room at the Sully mansion. The bed was VERY comfortable and we loved being in the heart of the Garden District - away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. Breakfast was a continental buffet, which was somewhat of a disappointment, but adequate and delicious. I only lack giving it 5 stars because of a few odd things. There was no literature in the room on how to operate the air/conditioner heating unit so I had to look those up on the Internet. There was an honor bar on the second floor, but it had only full sugar sodas - no diets. The Innkeeper was very nice but kind of ditzy - you had to ask for information otherwise you got nothing from her.
The photos on the website capture this property perfectly. We loved this inn. The Garden District is a wonderful location away from the French Quarter. We enjoy urban walking and it was easy to get to restaurants and bars by foot. We took Lyft or the trolley to other attractions that were farther away. It was really fun to have the little bar set up to make ourselves a Sazerac in the parlor. I read many glowing reviews about the innkeeper, Melinda. They were not wrong. She is present and helpful without being intrusive. We did our own research about where to eat and drink but she helped us narrow down our choices. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in NOLA.
My wife and I just returned from a three day trip to NOLA, with friends celebrating St. Paddy’s Day. This was one of many stays at Sully for us, but the first with new Innkeeper Melinda. I must say she is the consummate hostess and in my opinion runs the finest B&B in town. Look beyond the French Quarter & experience the “real beauty” of New Orleans.
My sister and I spent a week at the Sully Mansion and now cannot wait to return! The location was perfect! The inn is so neat and tidy! The front porch is the perfect place to sit and visit. We were spoiled with a wonderful continental breakfast each morning. Melinda, the innkeeper is a delight! We were celebrating a friend's birthday (who was also staying at the inn) and we wanted to do something special. Melinda booked us a private tarot card reading with Marcella, which was fabulous. This was a perfect New Orleans treat and Marcella was lovely. Three of us had private readings - while each of us had our reading, Melinda mixed the other two a Sazerac so we were able to relax in the salon while waiting our turn.
We had a wonderful stay at Sully Mansion. The inn is beautiful and well maintained. The location can’t be beat! Melinda, the innkeeper, was warm and gracious and informative. We look forward to our next stay.
