The rooms in this hotel were nicer than we expected for the price. Our room was good sized (not over sized) with a more spacious than average bathroom. The lighting in the hotel room was not especially great. The room itself was nicer than the hallways which need new carpeting. They serve a breakfast here from 6-9 on weekdays and 7-10 on weekends. It's nothing special, but if you're traveling with kids or need to eat first thing in the morning, breakfast at a hotel can be helpful. Their fitness room was not great. A recumbent exercise bike that needed a new seat, a treadmill that had an "out of order" sign on it, an elliptical machine, and very few free weights were all that made up the fitness room. There wasn't a bench or mats. There was an older TV, but I didn't see a way to turn it on. The area the hotel is located is not fancy, but we didn't feel unsafe. Main Street is one street behind the hotel, and we ate dinner there; not a ton of choices, but the food was decent. If you're passing through the area or need a hotel just for sleep, this is worth checking into, in my opinion.
I'll be honest, after reading some of the other reviews on here I was very nervous to come and stay! My best friend and I are both city girls in our early 30s, and wanted a midpoint between NYC and Boston that wasn't outrageously expensive. Other towns like Providence/New London/Newport etc. were just upwards of $250/$300 a night for a last minute weekend reservation which was more than we wanted to spend to go to CT or Rhode Island. This was by far and away the best deal we found. We were told it was very close to two different public beaches (it was!) and it has a pool (though the pool is basically right off of I 95) so we figured why not! I will say our big complaint was that we had a non-smoking room that did smell of cigarette smoke. But the room was clean, there were definitely no bed bugs (my biggest concern after reading reviews) and the staff were all very friendly, nice and helpful. There were also a few very nice restaurants in the area that were delicious and beautiful. Shell & Bones gets 5 stars from us! I did have an issue with the treadmill in the fitness center shutting down in the middle of my run which is pretty dangerous, but a staff member put up an "OUT OF ORDER" sign immediately. This hotel definitely served our purposes, it is a cheap uber ride to New Haven, there is a great upscale Wine/Tapas restaurant within walking distance (the staff did try to push Chili's...which as much as I love Chili's it wasn't totally what we'd had in mind). We felt safe the entire time and it was a perfect bang for our buck. And we were also able to spend a lovely afternoon at the beach.
Horrible customer service, smelly rooms, abysmal experience. Front desk gave our room number and a key to another couple who tried to enter our room in the middle of the night so we had to fight to keep the door close. After that front desk deactivated our key so my husband after having gone out early in the morning couldn't get in. No apologies from staff.
Nice hotel nice pool the rooms are beautiful. The supervisor Francisco Barbosa hes so kind they has good servise the employees are very good to hope to see soon again i recommend this hotel to anyone my daughter's like it
We used this hotel as a before and after stop when travelling by train to and from NYC. The rooms are a bit dated but don't be put off, they are clean and have all the amenities that you might need. There is also an outdoor pool which we didn't get to use on our visits but lots of other guests seemed to be enjoying it :). Special mentions have to go to Stephanie and Brandon at reception as both were a delight, super helpful and friendly too, they are a credit to the hotel. Great location, nice and close to New Haven for the train station and Yale. We would definitely stay here again.
I have stayed at this hotel many times. The rooms are usually very clean. I was initially given a room with broken door latch. When I reported this to the front desk, they were very accommodating and provided me with a new room.
Nice small motel, neat, clean, free wifi, microwave, refrigerator in each room and complimentary breakfast. Front desk staff was great. Outdoor pool. Good value. Good location to get to Shubert theater. Not far frm the casinos.
I was bitten by bedbugs at this hotel during a 5-day stay!!!!. Also, they give super-low rates to college kids for the weekends so they can party all night and raise hell in the hallways, balconies, and parking lot. If you want a good night's sleep or do not want to be bitten by bedbugs, do not stay here ever!!!
When we arrived at this motel we first noticed how clean and well maintainted it looked. When we checked in we asked for a room on the first floor. Due to the weekend that might be a problem but the frontdesk manager Francisco did his magic and got us a very nice room on the first Floor. The room was big and very clean and There was a microwave and a fridge. The bathroom was enormous, we were used to a lot smaller. And a perfect shower. All the staff was friendly and helpfull. Again to Francisco; thanks for the great stay.
Booked online and put in I needed a handicapped accessible room. I tried calling the night before and the phones just rang and rang. So I called the day of. The guy who answered asked what I wanted for bed choice. I stated preferably 2 or whatever they had that was accessible knowing sometimes accessibility choices are limited at some hotels. Well I arrive to check in and I'm informed that the accessible room is taken because at the time the hotel must have been full. It is kind of a deal breaker since it would be preferable to have an accessible bathroom with safety features. Anyways I let her know if we cannot make it work I will let her know once I get back with my roomy. When I actually entered the room I tripped over the tiny threshold almost faceplanting. So over dinner my roomy and I discussed it and decided it would be a safety hazard to stay. There was also no parking outside our door as we were promised there would be as all the spaces were taken. While the lady was friendly at check in she had a little bit of an attitude when we returned the keys. However the online booking site took good care of us and we were rebooked elsewhere. I would not knowingly book here again since we were told to just deal with it and were asked for paperwork for our service dogs that were clearly marked in their program gear then had to tell them they couldn't charge a pet fee for them.
