I was kind of deceived by the pictures online. The place looked nothing like the photos online, it's kind of like those pictures were photoshopped. We were located on the 2nd floor with no elevator. don't get me wrong, the elevator isn't always what I use, however when you are bringing heavy luggage up to your room, that is a problem. The option to leave our luggage in the car wasn't an option, this place was situated in a very sketchy neighborhood and decided not to leave our luggage in the car. The bed was uncomfortable and spent most of the night tossing and turning. I'm glad we only stayed at this place for one night, I would never stay here again.

Good location for walking the harbour and having a cold one at the Lighthouse Pub on the pier.

Uncomfortable beds, friendly staff, convenient location

The place is very clean and the staff was was professional, but not stuffy. The adjoining restaurant had great food at very reasonable price. I will stay there again on my next trip.

This harbourside hotel couldn't have fit our needs any better. Great room, very clean, comfortable beds. Free coffee, bottled water in room. fridge for our convienience. Fabulous restaurant with AMAZING clam chowder. Nothing fancy here, just good quality at an amazing price. Friendly, helpful staff as well. We will return and stay here!

This hotel has a bit of false advertising. We travel on a budget, as my partner is an artist and this one was booked in a pinch. It was fine...but not much else. The bed was so uncomfortable and the location was right beside the bus depot and liquor store. I didn't sleep too well that night; fearing that our car would be broken into. It's walking distance to the start of downtown and the water but this hotel needs a major upgrade to make it worth anything. Felt scared with the types of people lingering around. The one plus was the friendly staff but that wouldn't be enough to bring me back.

My experience was great. I was welcomed by a very polite lady at the front desk. The room was clean and comfortable.

The hotel is average - the bed was very firm which I like, but my husband would have preferred something softer. No hot showers here - the water only ever got luke warm. The hotel staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant where breakfast is provided has good food, great prices, and the staff are really friendly. We visit Nanaimo often and will use this hotel again, and again, and again - you get the idea!

hotel was dated but clean. 2 floors but no elevator restaurant only open for breakfast. for the price not a bad deal close to old downtown nanaimo along sea wall. quite a few pubs and bistros within walking distance

The nice surprise was, we recieved a complemenaty breakfast every morning at the Hotel Restaurant. Walking along the waterfront into town is enjoyable and the view spectacular.

We went for a get-away. The hotel was very affordable. The staff were extremely pleasant. We knew the hotel was older and in need of some updates, so no surprises here. It was actually better than expected. One downside, the dining room needed some cleaning, we brought it to their attention and nothing was done.

The hotel was refurbished in 2008. The rooms were clean and the staff were helpful. We had two rooms, one had a fridge and one did not. The rooms were average size. It is a two storey hotel with no elevator. The pool area was surrounded by grass and had a picnic area which was a nice feature. We had the good fortune being in Nanaimo for their airshow which included the Snowbirds. The hotel is across the street from the waterfront so provided an ideal location for the event. The hotel is also close to the Departure Bay ferry terminal. The price of the room included a buffet breakfast with toast, jam, coffee or tea, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. The hotel provided free wireless internet service available in room. The signal in my room was weak and the internet was a little slow but it worked.

We stayed here just as a stop on our trip to Vancouver. We chose the hotel because of it's low price and we were familar with the chain. We were not dissapointed, we were not amazed though either. If you plan on spending a lot of time at this "HoJo" location, then you mmight find your self to become uncomfortable. If your never really going to be at the hotel and will just be using it as a place to sleep, then it's a good choice. Also, GREAT fitness center! Pretty nice pool too.

The best kept secret of this hotel is its location, adjourning the harbour with the walking trail ending/starting at the bottom of the parking lot. The room was also very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our stay was overall a very pleasant experience.

This is an older hotel but it is kept up and is clean and comfortable. A short walk across the parking lot and you are on the waterfront with a park and playground nearby and beautiful scenery of the mountain, water, ferries, sea planes and boats. There is good dining and shops along the walkway and the town is just steps away. A casino is also withing walking distance. This is a great location if you like to take day trips or just stay and relax.

Good Day Maria We are so very sorry we did not meet your expectations while staying at the Howard Johnson Harbourside Hotel Nanaimo. The photographs of the hotel were taken by Howard Johnson International located in New Jersey, and we do not have much control over the pictures. I am so very sorry you were not offered assistance with your luggage by the front desk staff, as they are there to assist guests with all requests. Thank you Regards Erik Brook Manager of Operations
