The hotel is very centrally located at the iconic Viktualienmarkt, a reference for cosy market places. The hotel is a mix between contemporary design, high tech and mirrors (lots of them!). The service is sometimes (I have stayed several times at this hotel and experienced differences; I had the same experience this time too) very efficient and friendly, sometimes rather uninterested, distant and procedural without real interest in the client. This time I had a very annoying experience at check out, where the receptionist - friendly but slow and disorganised - forgot to give back my credit card. It wasn’t until I arrived at the airport that I realised it, obviously too late to be able to travel with my card. Very irritating and handicapping for me, doing one business trip after another and not having my corporate business card with me. The whole process of getting back my card was proof of slowness, lack of proactively thinking and too much red tape. But ... I did get the offer - ultimately - to stay one night free of charge on my next visit, which was welcomed after all the hassle I went through. The room I stayed in (room 50) was super: spacious, great view over the market, high tech, clean, ... All comfort both in the bedroom as in the bathroom. Only the pillows could be of better quality (too thin and not « duvet-royal » enough for me). The hotel has a great small bar and an ok breakfast room, where they serve an ok somehow classical (read: not very original) breakfast. What I like most about this hotel is the excellent price for the quality you get and the location which is top. Despite the credit card issue, hence the average instead of very good score, I’ll go back and I do recommend the place.
I would like to write a review regarding my stay at the Derag Livinghotel Am Viktualienmarket at the time I still here. These had been my first two weeks of a three weeks staying until I finish my job here in Munich. My work reserved this hotel for me and I am really thankful to whom chose this place, it makes my job much easier when I have a place I like to come back after I finish working after long hours at the office. Also it makes my free time much more efficient because of its incredible location, just steps from what really is relevant here around Munich. By the way, a local friend at work lend me his bicycle for this weekend and now I can recommend you to get one because this is the best way to travel around this beautiful city. My room is one with a kitchen, a small one, but has everything you need to manage your nutritional needs, although you have an interesting outdoors market just across the street which can offer you all what you need and want and even more than that, but it’s good to have this kitchen facility whenever you need it. The appliances in the room are well designed, there are electric blinds which give you a fully dark room when you go to sleep giving you what I call an hygienic sleeping environment. There is no balcony but there is a glass door which you can fully open to have fresh air coming into your room, all this wall is glass made so you have a nice view outside not through a window only, the bed has an oil mechanism to harder the mattress if you want to (I used it but didn’t feel any difference to be honest), the closet has a lot of space and for the first time in my trips (and I travel a lot) I didn’t need to ask for more hangers. There is a small refrigerator and a coffee machine (DeLonghi). The shower is really good and comfortable and the quality of the products is excellent (shampoo, conditioner, body cream, bath foam). Regarding the service, the cleaning is done three times a week (that is for the apartments like mine only) and the job is well done, at the reception you will find only smiling people to attend your needs at every hour. They gave me a nice place in a yard near the hotel to park the bicycle. But if you need a place to park your car in the hotel they will charge you, and it’s not cheap at all, but who needs a car in Munich anyway. You also will find everyday two bottles of beer in your fridge and one bottle of water, what is I think really nice. On your way out at the lobby grab an apple from the basket near the bar, you will be glad you did it, their are delicious. If I have to resume I will tell that I’m glad I’m staying at this hotel and looking forward for my last week. The only thing I can’t recommend is breakfast, not because I didn’t like it but because I had choose a non meal plan, but for what I can see and smell when I come near the dinning room it looks good. If you want to stay in a great hotel at the best location you know what to do...follow my recommendation , you won’t regret.
Great location, very helpful staff, well designed rooms with lots of built in features. Easy walk to central sites. On site restaurant is a very pricey vegetarian place, try the excellent Italian right next door. NO hesitation to staying here again.
One of the most phenomenal things that happened while we transition to living in Munich was staying at the Derag Am Viktualienmarkt. It is one of the very few hotels that can be used as an address while going through the German Visa process. We lived on the 6th floor in an apartment for approximately two months. It felt like home, from the time you walked in the front door to our living space, we were well taken care of by all the staff in the Hotel. Our living space was quiet, well-lit and roomy on the top floor, with a wonderful balcony over looking the courtyard. It includes a small kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave and cooktop. The room was well-maintained twice a week and the internet connection is 'SUPER'. This is definitely the place for a short-term stay, the location is the best in Munich, we had access to majority of the key tourist attractions, best restaurants and U-Bahn Stations. Derag Viktualienmarkt has one of the best bartenders in Munich, Herr Flo. Also the Tian Restaurant is connected and has a very good vegetarian cuisine. I can say it was a fabulous experience but I can also describe it as...Phenomenal!
This is a lovely little hotel in a superb location, right on the Viktualienmarkt. The room we had was beautiful, very clean and modern, and the hotel has some very quirky design features, including individually adjustable oil beds! All the staff were nice and helpful, and we particularly enjoyed chatting to the night staff, who are extremely professional and friendly.
The location of the hotel is excellent, just cross the street of the farmer's market near marien platz. You can walk to pretty much anywhere around the old town. The room we stayed sets up like a studio with plenty of space which is rare in Europe. You can adjust the hardness of the bed. The laundry and detergent are free. All these make it a very unique hotel. We like it.
location is excellent: across the street from the market and minutes away from marien platz. the staff are very friendly, professional and do their best for the guests' comfort. i stayed there twice this year and is my preferred hotel in munich. room is super clean and comfortable. no noise at all as windows are sound proof. toiletries are very good quality.
This was our first visit to Munich. And we wanted to stay near the Christmas Market. So we selected the Livinghotel. Was a super choice. We loved the room. It is excellently designed and felt really good. We had read some comments about the oil bed but found the bed to be very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and had wide choices. The staff was very courteous and very friendly. We are happy to recommend the Livinghotel to our friends and others visiting Munich and would be happy to go back for more!
With the Victuals on the doorstep, this hotel has all the main sights in the old town of Munich in walking distance. Even a walk to a Hofbräuhaus or the English Garden are easily manageable. During our stay there were a lot of Christmas markets, which are also only a short distance away.
