Three years have passed since our previous visit in 2015. As then, I love the location of this hotel, the views, the restaurants, the cafes, the shops all around.... those sandals and kikois drive me crazy, the bookstore and just the whole atmosphere with all the foreign and local visitors. This time, we chose to be in the old section and not the newer more modern building which is now ready. I think this part has more character and feels more Africa. It would be good, if the rooms were renovated, which I'm sure will happen now that the other building is ready. We are very happy here and, I am at the moment sitting at the desk in our room, with a view over the palm trees to the sea. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is really good. That fresh cool coconut milk is worth everything!! What I must add is one BIG improvement from our last visit. Thank God the old manageress is gone and a lovely, friendly, couple is managing the hotel. What a difference it makes!!!...Big smile on my face!! And, with the availability of Uber taxis, the cost of driving to town is now half!! It costs around 9000 shs, pick up time is always a maximum of 3 mins and the service they offer is brilliant. For me who has no particular business to do in town, this, undoubtedly, is the place for me to stay! Husband goes off to attend his meetings and I can easily keep myself happy and occupied all day!!
The hotel provides good accommodation and those who happen to get the rooms with the balcony towards the sea get a good view of the ocean as well as good breeze. The beds are comfortable.Meals are good as well.Has a swimming pool on the terrace overlooking the sea.Very accessible from Julius Kabarage International airport although may take long during rush hours because of the traffic jam. Those with children, they have swings for them with attendants.Above all its not very costly.
Good place and friendly staff .Breakfast was super and my family really enjoyed the sea view room 206.I would like to encourage the travellers that slipway hotel is a great place come and visit even single day.
My phone headset and hot water jug were not working and weren't fixed even after reporting. Also I literally had to leave written notes instructing house-keeping to replace the towels. Worst of all is the breakfast area where attendants don't pay much attention to you if you are not white.
Stayed here for three nights before heading on to the Selous for 5 day's safari. Lovely friendly & comfortable hotel in a great location with excellent restaurants, leisure facilities and shopping. Situated on the water's edge one can watch all the fishermen in their boats, mending their nets or landing their catch from your room balcony. Room very comfortable with A/C, TV, Fridge, Tea/Coffee and Safe. Trip to Bongoya Island a must when Staying at the slipway and the boat leaves from very close to the hotel. We found the Waterfront Restaurant excellent for food and atmosphere esp our waiter Ibrahim (who gave us a crash course in Swahili !!!!)
We had booked the standard room and is no value for your money! The bed was dirty and even found bloodstain on the pillow. Bathroom is very small and dirty the showercurtain was reaching halfway. It is a very busy and noisy surrounding. The wifi did not work. The only pluspoint was the boat to Bongoyo Island is in walking distance. Please book somewhere else!!!
one day trip, allowed to swim with kids, great views and good scenic environment. food was good and poolbar was fully stocked, tried all cocktails. shopping on the ground floor was amazing, many other restaurants also around for seafood options
This place has a great location by the sea in a compound with shops and nice restaurants including the Terrace which is of high quality. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic with comfortable beds and have a mosquito net. The bathroom however is shabby and the shower barely worked. Otherwise no complaints!
I have been coming to the Slipway hotel for a while now. However what has always struck me about the hotel is its amazing ambience and cuisine. Sunset at the Terrace restaurant offers an amazing view of the Bay and the ambience is surprisingly serene considering all the shops in the arcade below. My favorite dish is the Duck L'Orange with honey sautéed mushrooms. The consistency every time has been amazing and one cannot get enough of the perfectly cooked duck breast. Its truly an amazing experience.
Spent a night at the hotel with my wife and had an amazing welcome and friendly experience. Meals at The Terrace Restaurant were great and the customer service was what caught our attention. The waiters did a diligent job and the Chef was friendly too.
