Novotel Metz Hauconcourt4.0 out of 5.0

On arrival the receptionist was obviously at the end of a long hard day; the whole building was tired and scruffy, the carpets stained and the room lock temperamental. the food was OK and breakfast good.
Located on the outskirts of the city, in what seemed to be a commercial area, this is perhaps not the ideal hotel for those wishing to visit Metz and its environs, but perfectly adequate for an overnight stop. It is very close to the A4 and A31 auto routes so easy to pull in without encountering city centre traffic - and there is ample parking space. The room was clean with adequate facilities; the bar had a rather limited selection of drinks, but again sufficient for an overnight break; and breakfast kept us going until lunchtime - but then I am not a fan of the continental breakfast.
So we stopped either end of a trip, so two separate occasions. The rooms are pretty standard, no luxuries but clean and well presented. Breakfast was a reasonable buffet affair - better than I've often had in France but again, nothing outstanding. Staff were generally helpful and pleasant. Our gripe really was with the restaurant, we arrived a little after eight the first time but were unable to eat in the restaurant. On our return we arrived @ five but again could not eat in the restaurant as they had a group booking - which it turns out was not even in the restaurant but a side room!
We stayed for a stop-over on the way from Switzerland back to the UK. Definitely below average for what we’d expect from a Novotel. We stayed in a ‘superior’ room, which frankly is more of what we’d expect from an Ibis Budget (formerly Etap) in the Accor group. Fine for a motorway stop-over, but really that’s it. There are two positives though: The staff were truly excellent. We emailed beforehand to request a baby cot, and they replied almost instantly to confirm. Sure enough when we checked in the receptionist confirmed that the cot had been put in the room. We stayed on the night of Christmas Eve / Christmas Day, and even though the hotel was fully of a very noisy coach party, many of whom had clearly been drinking heavily in the bar, the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. The car park in front of the hotel is very secure, surrounded by a big fence and accessed by intercom. Definitely comfortable leaving a car-full of luggage there.
We stayed overnight en route from Switzerland to Calais. The hotel is very conveniently located close to the motoroway and provided everything we needed for our overnight stay: clean, comfortable room. Well-stocked bar. Good breakfast.
Did the National Holidays trip Metz and 3 countries, we arrived very late 11pm on Friday, we went straight to the dining room to have our dinner then checked in later. The checkin process was quick and the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a buffet, a great choice of continental as well as cooked. The dinner was 3 courses very nice but when booking the trip please let National Holidays know if you have any dietary requirements so they can inform the hotel but if they do serve you something you don’t like they will give you an alternative. I didn’t like how the people from the coach Holidays are sat quashed together on these long tables that was my only problem but the dining and bar area is very small. I stayed in the twin room while my parents stayed in the double, they are very spacious and clean but they really do need updating. We didn’t have drinks in the hotel instead we went across the road to the supermarket which is huge and had a good range of wines and drank in our rooms. Would I recommend this hotel? Yes I would it’s convenient, with Metz being a 15mins drive, 30mins drive to Luxembourg and 45mins drive to Germany.
Everything we expect from a Novotel. A special kudo for the quality of the breakfast (2 adults for 32€ and children free). The staff was particularly nice. The hotel was situated very close to the main roads and has a closed parking space.
Once again we had an overnight stay with a coach party on our way to Italy. It is ideally situated just off the motorway with an enormous car and coach park. On entering the hotel first impressions were good, but the bedrooms and corridors are definitely in need of refurbishment, we said this last year and since then no improvements have been made. The bedrooms are a decent size, quiet and with clean crisp bedding, towels, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator, bathroom with shower and separate toilet, sufficient hanging and drawer storage for an overnight stay. Some rooms are situated a long way from Reception, but there are doors leading from the corridors into the car park which makes a handy short cut if you are taking your own luggage. The selection of food at breakfast was good with bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs as well as the usual continental selection. For an overnight stay this hotel is quite adequate.
I stayed in this hotel when I was staying in Metz on business. It is nowhere near the city so if you want easy access to Metz then I would look at another hotel. That being said, this is a great Hotel for a stop over or to use as a base if you are visiting places in this area. The food at the hotel is tasty and reasonably priced. The service was quick and all the staff that I had dealing either were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The only negative for this hotel is that there is no lift.
If you are passing by then this hotel is a reasonable place to stay for the night. The room we had was reasonable apart from the toilet and bathroom being seperate which is unhygenic as you handle two door handles after going to the toilet before getting to a sink to wash your hands. Pretty sure the UK would not allow that. It not what I expect of a mid range hotel, more a budget type quality. The breakfast was acceptable but no more with quite unhelpfull staff and the pastry selection for France quite poor.
