This hotel was about a mile from the "conference hotel, but about 1/2 the price. I checked in on 6/22/13, had to give my credit card info to the hotel clerk even though I had already paid for the room for 6 nights. No elevator, and narrow stairs, so dragged my bag up to 2nd level. Room was too warm, even though 18C outside, couldn't find any a/c control, so opened small windows. Room very small and cramped with bed, desk, chair, and closet cabinet. Tried to unpack, but was sweating. Decided to leave. Complained to hotel clerk about lack of A/C in room and crowded room, but was hasselled. 4 days later, I got a fraud alert on this credit card for 3 charges totaling over $600 that I had not made. This hotel clerk was the only one that had my CC info, as I hadn't used it or had it out of my possession in Montreal. You seldom get more than you pay for, but you could get a lot less, even get defrauded!

the hotel room was extremely small and could have been cleaner. we were there to enjoy the city so only in our room to sleep. The hotel is very close to the Metro and downtown Montreal

A dump. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in a lot of places. I have never before elected to write a review of my experience. It is a measure of our disappointment and irritation that I am compelled to write this one. We selected this hotel based on the description and pictures on its online listing. Instead of the modest but pleasant room we were led to expect, we were given a grim, cell-like chamber in the basement. The furniture was rickety, unpainted plywood held-up the air conditioner. It felt tired and depressing. Apart from the room being so unpleasant, we felt we'd been tricked; that the description we'd based our decision on was deceptive. A classic bait and switch. Maybe there are nicer rooms somewhere in this hotel. But ours was not the only one on the "lower level" and I promise those are not worth your money.

Small and old, but clean. Excellent location. Close to coffee shops, ethnic restaurants, museums, shopping centers and a major university.

Close to St-Catherines, so you'll get a little noise on Friday and Saturday nights but overall a clean and useful hotel. It is not a place to expect to spend much time at but it is nicely located to two Metro stations and just off St-Catherines. A very good, budget hotel.

Stayed 3 nights visiting with family.. the Staff was accommodating ... the rooms are small, but clean! within walking distance to shopping, night life, and restaurants

It's a hotel. It's on the cheap side, and not bad for the price, but don't go in expecting something fantastic.

We had a very nice stayed in this hotel I loved the location the only thing is the bed was very small.

We stayed underground!!! How can this hotel be a three-start hotel? Of course, this is very cheap.

Hotel St. Malo(sp?) at 1455 DuFort in Montreal, Canada, was no big deal. They don't supply rooms with body lotion or a plastic laundry bag in the closet for soiled clothing or a plastic bag in the ice bucket. The window screens in the room and bathroom were off their track and I couldn't correct the problem. The rooms are too close together so it was noisy. The owners were very nice but it truly is a no frills hotel so I wouldn't stay there again nor recommend it to anyone.
