I very much like old but well-preserved hotels and this hotel is very attractive. Staff was generally very helpful and friendly, with minor exceptions. I appreciated getting a room in the historic wing. Furniture throughout the hotel, including my room was very nice, old, and in excellent condition. So much dark wood, however, with the room otherwise well-preserved but minimally updated was somewhat depressing, at least at first. Bathroom small and nothing special, other than wooden shutter/blinds which are attractive and functional. Windows open. Bathtub/shower combination modern, but well-worn and what might be found in any motel. Lack of in-room amenities at this price level disappointing. Cheapest little wafer of soap imaginable. Lotion looked like it was used. No iron or board, robe or slippers, microwave, or refrigerator. I had the feeling that some staff felt that their convenience and comfort came before that of paying guests, commandeering of elevator, etc.
First morning my room was cleaned while I was at breakfast, and I thought that was great. Second morning I requested that that be done again, but housekeeper didn't come around until hours later when I wanted to stay in room on a rainy day, so I declined having my room cleaned that day, and she seemed happy to comply, not so good. Best feature of the hotel other than nice old furniture and building, and mostly helpful and pleasant staff, was the very nice continental breakfast buffet that I very much enjoyed.
