We arrived and found out room only had one bed... they were full so no options. Asked about cancelling so we could book elsewhere and they said it was up to orbit. With approval from orbitz, the clerk changed his tune and said he would not refund my fees.

Fit my needs for a 4-day business stay. Small hotel with convenient parking. Elevator a big plus. Clean room with the exception of grime around light switch and door frame. AC has Continuous Fan setting - vital for "white noise" and a restful night. I didn't take advantage of the continental breakfast but it looked OK/standard (toast, pastries, cereal, coffee). Owner/manager was courteous and efficient. Had the impression he wasn't thrilled about my booking through a 3rd party -- said he would not be able to enter my Wyndham Rewards member number because of booking through Orbitz.

Overall, this property is not pretty but I felt safe and welcomed by the owners/managers. It is in need of a renovation. If you need a safe place to sleep comfortably - this is a good choice.

Paper thin walls you can hear everything going on outside Toilet ran all night long would not stay here again

Staff very helpful. Room clean, modern. Duvet cover was two white sanitize sheets. No hand towels.

Room was OK, nothing special. But it was noisy, even with the windows completely closed, you could hear from the people above, below, walking on the street, just too noisy for me.

The hotel room is very tight. Not easy to move around. The sink is not draining well. The bath room smells.

clean room. we book two rooms and one room's restroom light broken but the service people said they can change room for us if we want. people really nice there. Just a little not quiet enough, we can hear the 3rd floor people walk around during night. overall is great place and price is reasonable.

just ok. clean rooms.located next to highway. the star is not to friendly.

I thought this was a very good value for a 2 star hotel. Nicely maintained and clean. There was a little road noise, but for the price I have had a lot worse and none better. I would stay here again. I sometimes stay in Salinas 1 star hotels for a little less money, but not any more.

Went to Monterey for a quick getaway and the hotels in the area were ridiculous or already booked. So decided on a whim to book here. I'm glad I did. The bed was actually and surprisingly comfortable, the room was clean, the area of town was quiet and it wasn't far from many places to eat and got some stuff at Walmart (approx 5 min away). He staff was also really nice. The only thing that could wasn't great was the continental breakfast. Choice of toast, cereal a banana, and waffles. The waffle iron was being hogged by a large family so we stuck to everything else.

Great hotel to have next door in order to provide a stay to family and friends who come to visit from out of town.

Good for a one night if you need to be close to Monte Rey and all the hotels are booked.

I was really concerned as to where I would stay in Salinas. After reading scary reviews on most of the hotels, I settle on this one based on price. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by wonderful staff and recieve a spotless room. No smell, no stains, quiet, and safe.

clean rooms, great continental breakfast. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a great deal to book this hotel.

I like the cleanliness of this hotel. I'd definitely come back.

Everything was worth th money paid for the room. Only neg. was the jacuzzie bathtube/ shower didn't was clean but had a gray ring stain. it was also small. I wouldn't fill it up with water and sit in it.

It was a very pleasant place to stay for a business trip.

Clean and quiet. Good parking, free breakfast and wireless Internet.

I was in town for some errands, with a little trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium only ~16 miles away. The weather was great: ~69 degrees F, slightly overcast in Monterey, during early August. I'm the kind of traveler that brings my own food and drink (when driving, not flying), so a microwave and refrigerator are always great amenities for me to have. Every room in HoJo Salinas has both these things. The AC/heater isn't temperature control; the buttons are: off, hi (AC), low (AC), fan, and heater... something like that. And there's a dial to control the intensity. Good enough for me. The TV is ... digital cable? Or satellite. Not sure which. Plenty of channels. The remote worked well (batteries weren't dead). The 1/2 bath is convenient, containing the bathtub and toilet. Just outside are two sinks. HoJo also has a cool policy in which if you forget any personal toiletries, e.g. toothbrush, you can call up the front desk and get one for free. I didn't try it though, since I have my own. There was also an iron and ironing board, if you need to straighten some nice clothes. Overall, the room was decently clean. I don't have a UV/black light to check out stuff, but whatever. I had a few family members with me who was hoping for a pool. This HoJo didn't have one. Oh well. The free breakfast was pretty good: bagels and toast to be used with a 4-slot toaster, muffins, ready-to-cook waffle mix with a waffle maker, cream cheese, jellies, butter, milk in the fridge, coffee, apple juice, water, OJ (out at the time). Mmm, waffles. These were all on one counter in the breakfast area, which had 3 or so tables with chairs. A TV was off to the side, just outside the area but viewable and audible. One thing that disappointed me was the staff: while they were nice (front desk manager and cleaning ladies), my room hadn't been cleaned and stocked. Check-in was at 2pm and I arrived at 4pm! For that reason I would like to give the staff 3/5 stars, but there's another reason that makes me put them at 4/5: My original reservation was for 3 nights, but on the second night I decided I needed to check out a night earlier than planned. Booking through Orbitz, I got a stay 2 nights save 20% deal, and this HoJo's policy was that 100% non-refundable. I called Orbitz, who tried to call HoJo to no avail -- the HoJo front desk was supposedly not picking up. I went down to see the front desk, talked to him, gave him the Orbitz phone number, and he authorized Orbitz to refund me for checking out 1 day early. He was very friendly and accommodating. Again, all this happened despite the official policy of 100% non-refundable. Very cool. Anyways, as for location, I already wrote that it's close to Monterey. A block away the intersection is S. Main St, and down that there are many typical chain restaurants and grocery stores. In fact, Salinas is a small town so you can get anywhere really fast. I think this HoJo would be a good stay for those watching the Laguna Seca races. It's about 14 miles away if I recall correctly. Oh yeah, my family and I weren't the only ones staying at the HoJo who headed over to the aquarium. Yup, pretty close. Overall, I liked this HoJo in Salinas. I would stay again.
