Heater did not work, room cold. TV controller did not work=no TV useage The lady at the desk was pleasant but when informed no heat, she asked if I was staying another night and of course the answer was no.

Overall appearance, quite nice. The building is older but remodeled very tastefully in terms of decor, painting, molding along ceiling, furniture, bath. There are, however, some deficits. The overall construction of the building is rather light. We took a room on the top (second) floor but could hear footsteps from the rooms on either side. Also, the doors stuck, so there was constant slamming. We were kindly upgraded to a suite but that merely consisted of the addition of a two-seater hide-a-bed couch, placement of which did not allow viewing the TV. (We dragged the couch into a usable position.) The TV itself had minimal DISH service with very few non-junk stations. The room had no air conditioning -- which is actually normal in Pacific Grove, where temps are usually cool, so we really can't complain. Unfortunately, we it a 3-day period in which temps soared to 95 -- and that's where we hit the irony: the ceiling fan wall switch has a motion detector, so when you fall asleep at night it senses no motion and shuts off the fan! Solution: dangle a luggage tag by a thread in front of the motion detector and let the fan keep the tag -- and thus the fan -- busy. The breakfast area seats only six, though trays are available to bring food back to rooms -- which is a good idea since there is a VERY loud ice machine drowning out the TV ... which is visible in the next room, not the breakfast area. Overall, the stay was pleasant ... but could be improved.

Good location, great weather Furniture in the room showing age and bed was uncomfortable. Water pressure very low and shower inadequate. Definitely lived up to 2-stars.

Just stayed for one night business. Was a good value for what I needed.

The staff, except for one male, was distant. The room was a tiny after-thought with drab, out-dated decor, the smell of garlic, and a roach to welcome me. The mattress and pillows were like stone. The so-called breakfast choices were apples, bananas, instant oatmeal, Activia yogurt, coffee and waffles. This place was definitely not worth the $400 cost for a 2-day stay.

We had an excellent stay! The hotel was clean, quiet & we loved the light & airiness. It's in a FANTASTIC location, convenient to the quirky, beautiful shops & restaurants in Pacific Grove, & was a short five minute drive to Cannery Row & all that they had to offer. We cannot wait to return for another stay.

The only problem was the bed which sloped away from the center on both sides so that you felt like you were falling out of bed throughout the night. We were not able to sleep because of it. Decided not to stay the next 2 reserved nights. When we inquired about crediting our charge card for the additional nights the desk clerk said no, we haven't charged you a thing, so that would be up to the booking company. I can understand that somewhat, but there was not the slightest apology for the bed condition even though we were not harsh about it.

bed was super comfy continental breakfast wasn't ready at a decent time, we had to leave to start the day before it was even offered no one was there to check out in AM the bathroom was very outdated and pieces of tile were falling out of the wall weird location for toilet, not much space

Great location near Butterfly Sanctuary, clean room, friendly staff. Good bike path nearby. Less than 5 minutes to drive to enjoy sunset on the ocean. The only improvement desirable: expand breakfast space, at least add a couple more chairs.

We got in a little later in the evening on Saturday night (eve of Daylight savings) therefore, Sunday is a day of rest. Not at this place. We were woke at 7:30am (8:30am by the new time) to the loud sound of the bush trimmer out the window as the grounds keeper doesn't seem care that the number one reason he has a job is the people in the rooms wishing to get what they paid for "Sleep!" The desk clerk stopped the work when told the situation, but pretty much laughed at the fact I shared with him. Not a good experience in the slightest.

It was just okay. It was clean and the bathroom was updated, but the toilet seat was peeling. The location is a bit far from Fisherman's Wharf. The breakfast was not appetizing. we stayed two nights, and was tempted to move after the first night but it was easier just to stay

Nice place great location just stayed 1 night. It was code to shopping dining and entertainment

This isn't the cleanest or nicest hotel on the planet, but the rooms are large with a kitchen including dining table, sink and stove top. I would say it's probably a solid three stars, though it was a little pricy for what I feel the quality of the hotel was (perhaps this is the price you pay for extra space and a kitchenette).

Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The sink faucets in the bathroom leaked a little, and there was the stroing telltale scent of lysol when we got there. Aside from these minor points, aces all around. Short walk from Asilomar beach, the Monterey Peninsula's best-kept secret.

Picked this hotel vs staying somewhere on Cannery Row. Was looking for a little change of pace and this was a very last minute booking. Price was cheap and so I was expecting what we got. Room was fine. King bed, small table, Microwave and small fridge, coffee maker...HDTV, DISH...Good to go. View out the back window was of another home or hotel under major construction. No noise though as it was the weekend. Very messy so don't waste your time looking out the windows. Bed was comfortable enough to sleep through the night. Continental breakfast was ok. Waffles, Danishes, Cereal, Toast, English Muffins, Juice, Milk, News Paper and off you go. Might stay there again in a crunch but think I'll plan ahead next time and stay a little closer to where I'll be spending most of my time next time.

this is a nice hotel at the end of downtown Pacific Grove. easy (beautiful) drive to aquarium, walking distance to some really good restaurants. Pacific Grove is a hidden treasure along the Monterey Peninsula. has a great coastal area with park like settings, just minutes from aquarium. only real complaint is room was OVER fragranced. we had to open the windows and leave just to get the smell to a barely manageable level. By morning it was done to a reasonable level and we left the privacy sign on door to keep from having to deal with it again. otherwise room was good and in an area we love. across from butterfly sanctuary and a comfortable walk to town and ocean. would stay again hoping the room is not as heavily scented.

Very nice room, clean and good location near attractions and beaches. Ammenities good and good breakfast. Overall very pleasant stay.

Key didn't work. Had to go to the front desk 3 times to get a key that finally worked. Lady at the desk seemed to be put out when I went back the 3rd time. Room was not very quiet. Noise from up stairs was very loud. Breakfast was marginal.

We were quite happy with our room in this hotel. It was well-kept, clean, and we were surprised by the small touches and decor. It wasn't the most luxurious hotel room we've seen, but a great room for the price. We came for July 4th and the hotel was sold out by the weekend. The parking lot had plenty of spaces during the day, though at night spaces were a bit tight. There's usually a decent amount of on-street parking nearby if that happens. This hotel is in a very residential area, away from tourist central but a short walk to the coast, Point Pinos lighthouse, Lovers Point Park (we rented bikes from Adventures by the Sea), and a few other parks. It's a bit far to walk to Cannery Row and the aquarium, but certainly doable (about 2 miles walking distance).

Very pleasant and affordable stay in Pacific Grove. Just a few blocks from a gorgeous beach. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again!!
