Renovation work was still going on in the reception area when we arrived but that was the least of the problems. On checking in the receptionist took a pre authorisation amount from my money card, €600. When we checked out I was told that the total bill was €654 and the pre authorisation amount would be used along with the €54 to complete our payment. On checking my money card when I got to Strasburg I was astounded to find the €600 was still “pending” and the full amount, €654 was debited from my card. This was 11 October. I am now home in Australia 31 October and the €600 is still pending in my account. That is €600 that I can’t use. This unconscionable practice seems to be a feature of the Accor Hotel Group as a similar issue arose at the Ibis in Dijon. At no other hotel in our two months of travel have we experienced this type of unprofessional practice. We will be giving the Accor group a miss from now on.
It's the location that sells this hotel - about 200m from Stanislas Square, and ideal for exploring the old city and its museums and restaurants. Our room was pretty standard for a Mercure and perfectly fine. We didn't eat in the hotel (breakfast would have been about 16 euros more). The underground car park (14 euros/24 hrs) has some of the tightest curves and narrowest spaces I have encountered - the concrete walls bore witness to many drivers who had made contact. There is a bar, but it is often staffed by the receptionist, which can mean a longish wait. Despite this minor gripes, the central location makes it ideal for a short tourist visit.
Always start with the good: you can park, it is in ideally located. I do not know the state of other rooms but our room was so dusty, smelly, that we had to request (and show) the staff 2 times over were to clean again. The door to the bathroom doesn't close, and if you try to reopen the bathroom ceiling rumbles.. so 105 is not a room to be in with 2 persons. And well it good be me, I hate it when the curtains don't fully close in a hotel room. At the end we got 25,- discount as an apology. For this money next time I go back to previous hotel. Accor? Mercure? Bah.
The best hotel in Nancy! Great staff same every visit. Modern rooms, great wifi. Breakfast excellent. I have stayed in all Nancy hotels this is the best. Excellent location near the square & so many good restaurants.
This hotel was undergoing refurbishment when we were there and they advised us of this beforehand. We were given a newly refurbished room but it was tiny. I would say as a single room for a single person it would have been great, but for two adults definitely not. The bathroom was good although the bath was rather high and it was tricky getting into the shower (I am quite short!). The bed was comfortable and the room had tea and coffee making facilities which was good. Breakfast next morning was unbelievable for all the wrong reasons. First of all there were only two or three members of staff on. Not really enough tables and when we got there there were no cups left. Breakfast continued this way. No plates at one time and no baguettes - we were told 5 minutes. Food being brought out sporadically. Depended when you got there if the full selection was available. Most hotels preempt their guests needs but not here. We had arranged a quick check out and I am still waiting for an invoice two weeks on. Position of the hotel perfect. Close to Place Stanislas - beautiful - and close to lots of good restaurants. The place was buzzing. This was not up to normal Mercure standards. Would not visit again.
Positive: the parking is in the parkhouse opposite the hotel. The staff is great and helpful. Location cannot be beaten. Negative: Poor sound insulation in the rooms. Room 201 had old tobacco smells even after the renovation. The bathroom smelt of drains.
We have stayed here before hence going back. It isn't too far from the main square. It isn't as 'posh' as other Mercures but they are in the process of upgrading and what they have done so far is good. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a better room with a fridge and was also given a free gift which was rather nice. We only stayed one night as we were travelling further a field. It has a car park handy although it isn't there's but very convenient, however do be careful when driving out to the barriers. Its a bit tight if you have small arms and unfortunately my hubbie damaged our car. Breakfast is good, rooms are very clean and you do get a goodnights sleep
I would love to say that this hotel stood up to the potential, but it didn't. Indeed we didn't try breakfast because of the experience of the evening before. Check in was fine. The room was good, the rooms have been upgraded. But on arrival, work was going on in the public areas. The dining room and bar was being refurbished. It was noisy and what was clear was - nothing - where was the bar? My partner, as a gold member receives some special deals. A complimentary drink is often welcome after a long day of travel. Such as when we arrived. So when on looking around for the bar I was unpleasantly asked 'what are you looking for madam'? I knew I was in for a problem. Where was the bar? The receptionist helpfully showed us to the bar. But at the same time did not offer us any kind of drink. Coffee, water or wine? Nothing was on offer here. In my opinion the hotel should have informed us of the work going on. since there was very little in the way of a hotel service on offer. So next morning at breakfast time we headed out into town rather than chance what was on offer here. We were not disappointed. This hotel has much to learn in terms of service and hospitality. A shame since the location of the hotel is so central.
The location of the hotel is great - very close to Place Stanislas and the centre of town - and it has its own carpark. However there were some downsides to our stay. When we arrived, the entrance to the underground carpark was cluttered with a number of white vans. The interior of the hotel was being refurbished. If I had known in advance, perhaps I would have booked elsewhere. A staff member showed us a comfortable-looking sofa when we enquired where the bar was but a bar without visible bottles, glasses or a place to serve drinks did not seem a practical proposition to us. The room was very compact. Although the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was awkwardly laid out. My left humerus has just about recovered from frequent encounters with the toilet roll holder. The welcome was efficient and cordial but could not overcome the feeling that this is not really a 4 star establishment.
This is the great location. A well situated hotel close to Stanislaus Square and the Musee des Beaux Arts. Walking distance to most tourist attractions or just a quick train ride.The reception staff is very kind, professional, and courteous. Everyone speaks English and they are quite helpful (ecsp Miss Virzhinija :). The front desk was helpful and spoke excellent English. MINUS: Lots of inexpensive restaurants near the hotel.
