We started our two week Italian vacation at the Lido Mediterranee Hotel and we were very pleased with our decision. The hotel rooms have spectacular views and are very nicely appointed. The staff was amazingly attentive and helpful. They arranged for several private tours and gave us excellent advice on the must sees of Sicily. It was very easy to get to the beach and downtown Taormina and all around excellent location and value.
Taormina is an expensive resort so and Lido Medirerranee is a mid price hotel. As such expecting a 5 star will only make you disappointed. If you have the correct expectations you will have a nice stay. The rooms are fine, though the bathroom is a bit small. We had a great balcony with ocean view which was great. The breakfast is good with plenty of choice and the beach is nice. The wifi is excellent and the hotel is only a 10-15 minutes walk from the cabin up to Taormina. I would however not walk back after dark as there is no pavement. Overall the hotel is good and the staff are nice and helpful.
We had a very enjoyable week at this hotel. Our room was spacious, extremely clean and well maintained with a large balcony and a sea view that was stunning! The hotel is in 1960's Mediterranean style-vintage yes, but we absolutely loved it! The colourful tiled floors, the old style lampshades, the beautiful breakfast balcony, where we had meals under the trees, looking out to sea…it was all lovely! The staff couldn't have been more charming and everyone seemed intent on making our stay perfect. Don't take any notice of poor reviews! Go there and enjoy paradise!
The hotel is located right on a beach and the views from the rooms are stunning. Every day of our stay we got up early to watch a sunrise from our balcony. The rooms are generally good and well designed although some of the appointments were definitely old-ish. It is near enough to Taormina, Castelmola and local attractions. We did enjoy our stay there.
we had read comments on this hotel and were a bit worried as to what we would find. The room was quite big and the view ftom our window was stunning, right on the beach. yes the chairs and curtains could. do with an upgrade but not the worst place we have been too. The hotel was clean, staff were very very helpful and pleasant dont now how one person in their review said they were rude. Breakfast was continental and was adequate. My husband was unwell our last night and our flight home wasnt till late evening and they gave us another room to catch up on our sleep in until we were picked up for our flight. Would go back only downfall many of the trips were so far away and were so expensive and pick up was 6-7 am.
This hotel is in a desperate state and needs a total makeover. The only thing that makes up for it is the nice sea view. It started off poorly with our arrival in the old reception with allergy warnings all over. A rude receptionist claimed we had to pay extra before even entering the hotel because he took out the reservation belonging to another guest. Mistakes happen... This was the start of our time travel taking us back to 1960. The rooms were probably repainted at some stage but everything else was worn and dated. The lamp in our room was eaten away by damp (see pictures). Lunch at the hotel was just ok. Service in general is horrible. It is impossible to get a drink on the terrace as the waiters are too busy setting tables while ignoring you. They would be better off dropping the bow tie and unnecessary stiffness and provide basic / acceptable service instead. We went to the beach club next door for lunch instead. More relaxed and better service. The beach staff at the hotel was impolite, barely offered a greeting. He is supposed to bring drinks but in reality orders never come and you end up going to get drinks by yourself instead. This is very obviously not a 4* calling it a very lousy 2* would be generous. It is the worst hotel we stayed at in a very long time. It is *absolutely* not worth the going rate. Lido Mediterranee is a poorly ran shadow of itself. The hotel's management fell asleep in the sixties and needs an urgent wake-up call. Make your own conclusions...
My 19-year-old daughter and I originally planned to stay at Mediterranee Hotel for just 3 or 4 days but we liked it so much that we extended twice, and stayed for a week. The staff and manager (Saro) were all consistently helpful and friendly. The rooms are terrific - quiet and peaceful, comfortable beds, spacious, full of character and a traditional "old world" quality, with wonderful furniture and very ample closet space. The views from all over the hotel are absolutely breathtaking: from the breakfast area/restaurant, the lounge area, the swimming pool, and the guest rooms. There is a piano in the lounge area and lots of tables to sit at and read, journal, chat, etc. the room had a gorgeous terrace with chairs, in addition to being a lovely place to relax it served well for my being able to hand-wash my clothes and then hang them out to dry on the terrace. we used Taormina as a base for exploring the region - taking day trips to Lipari, Paorea/Stromboli, Aetna, and even Agrigenti, and it was wonderful to have a safe, quiet, familiar haven to return to each evening after these long day-trips. The hotel is also connected to a private beach, it is a short ride to the "sister" hotel, we loved the private beach and had a fabulous day there. (it is helpful to buy a pair of rubber beach shoes from the beach vendors, as it's more comfortable to swim with these on your feet.) I had some business to take care of at home, and the hotel staff were helpful in allowing me to copy, scan, and print the documents I needed. I highly recommend this hotel and would happily return if I have the chance to do so.
The hotel was very clean BUT VERY ANTIQUATED. The staff was rude and non accomadating. The air conditioner leaked for two days. The decor has not been changed since they opened. All the staff seems miserable. It is also 1km from the cable car and it is very hot this time of year . The beach was excellent EXCEPT the chairs were OLD. No shuttle to the cable cars. Spend the money and stay at a 5 star hotel. Take a trip with the local boat on the beach for 20 euros it's worth it.
We stayed for 3 nights in this time capsule , the hotel is a mixture of quasi Italian country villa and 1960s ikea - our room (122) was laughingly old fashioned and the bathroom was no better , the room did have a balcony which was as large if not larger than the room and was overlooked from all sides by other rooms , one room even appeared to have direct access . The sea view was impeded by a collection of water tanks and solar panels directly opposite at eye level some 10 meters away .The bed however was quite comfortable , and the room was clean .There is a complimentary continental breakfast which is standard fare . The location is approximately 1.5 km from town and is an easy walk - parking in town is a bit of a nightmare - the hotel is right on the beach which is a mixture of sand and shale, the sea swells are from time to time quite strong .in short not our best choice of hotel .
Well, an old fashion hotel managed hopefully by Italians... even the quality is not the best, the location and mainly the view (sunshine & sunset) cover all the expenses. Try a digestive later in the night, near the Sea... friendly staff, best position. Maybe I will buy it if it will be available on the future.:)
