Hotel room was comfortable and clean. We arrived late but the barman made us cheese toasted. The reception staff were very helpful with booking meals etc. The pool area was very relaxing with lovely views. The hotel is located near to the old town with lovely shops, bars and restaurants
Having a great stay at this historic hotel. We have a very spacious and comfortable room with views of the sea and Mount Etna - spectacular! The pool is located at the end of beautifully kept terraced gardens with magnificent views. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come here again.
Stayed here for 5 nights as part of a 2 week holiday to Sicily. On the plus side, the location right by the old town was great. The pool area is very nice with spectacular views. On the other hand, the rooms and public areas are very old-fashioned and uninviting. The breakfast offering was poor and exactly the same every morning. The restaurant staff at breakfast were downright unfriendly and more interested in chatting to each other than serving guests. Reception staff were little better. There is no option to valet parking at 10 euros a day as there is effectively no car park and we once waited half-an-hour to have our car brought round. Booked through Citalia and have also fed this review back to them
I found out the morning of our travels we were headed to Sicily and I was delighted, being as I always wanted to go! Flight was easy, private transfer other end and dropped off outside the very grand looking Excelsior palace. What a spot for a hotel to be placed, views of mount Etna, views of a beautiful bay and at the beginning of the street corso umberto! It's situation and views are just perfect. We were greeted warmly and our 10month old daughter was made a fuss of the minute we were thru the door. We were shown to our room and it was not to my wife's liking as she had requested "a view". She returned to the desk and all was sorted and we were moved to a room with spectacular views and 2 balconies. I would personally like to thank the manageress and her staff on going the extra mile on this point it really helped us have a fantastic holiday. The hotel is turn of the century 1904 and is preserved that way, it has no up to date garishness and lives with its wonderful charm. The room was extremely clean and decorated in keeping with the hotels status and age. The bathroom was dated but it is still very functional, it is all part of the charm of this great place. Breakfast is varied and filling with juice and coffee galore. The waiters are friendly warm courteous and silver service standard. Now for my another favourite part, the pool and the walk to it. You walk down 20odd steps to a gate that leads to a path thru or round a beautiful terrazzo that continues to wind down and onto to a walk way between trees and garden that leads to the sunning set pool area that teeters on the edge of the precipice. It is a glorious setting and will take some beating for me! If you are unfit or struggle with hills and steps you might not like the walk back, but we as a family enjoyed every second no matter how hard it was! I would like to thank all the staff last of all, from front desk to waiters to pool attendants, you all were absolutely fantastic and we will never forget your hospitality. Graze Millie!! Arrevedeci Or as you all said to Nieve, ciao ciao.
Just below the hotel outside bar are very significant beautiful gardens that are easily accessed. We got a drink at the bar in the afternoon, which gave us the ability to acted the garden which seemed to be larger than the reknowned public gardens.
Stayed here for 2 nights and could have used a week. The hotel was old but well maintained and the front desk very friendly and accomadating. The city was beautiful and could walk to everything. The view from our room was the beautiful coast line and MT. Etna. Would highly recommend this city and this hotel.
Well this hotel it looks across the valley to the smoking Volcano Mount Etna and also sweeping views down the the many beaches rooms and staff were very help full rate Taormina as must return destination a plus.
This is a large old style hotel with amenities & rooms to match i.e. The rooms are a bit old fashioned. We got half board included but after the first night decided eating elsewhere was too good to miss! The dining room is very odd - looks as though it's set up for a wedding with no guests. Nice pool, twee bar and good position for the town, valet parking for car.
This hotel sits conveniently on the Main Street in Taormina. From the steps to the pool and from the outdoor seating areas it has lovely views of Mount Etna. Our room had a side sea view which was quite nice. The bathroom needs some modernisation - a few tiles were damaged, but overall the hotel was clean, welcoming and friendly. Fabric wall surfaces offered a taste of luxury and the lounge and bar areas were welcoming and relaxing. The pool is accessed down a 'few' steps so be prepared for the climb back up. There is a bar offering drinks and light meals once you are down at the bottom. Overall this was an excellent location within a few steps of Taormina shops, bars and resteraunts. It also gave easy access to some of the local 'sights'. Breakfast offered an excellent choice of hot and cold. As with most hotels and bars in Taormina beware the high price of the coffee and drinks.
Wonderful location just outside "City " gates . This hotel harks back to the " Grandeur " of the Grand Tour . Thankful not modernized except for a conservatory that has been added with wonderful views . The rooms are large ( except the singles which are like cells ! ) Our room had a view of Mount Etna , top floor , with House Martins nests outside . Size was 15 foot by 14 , Safe , mini fridge , a/c , high ceiling , large bathroom bath with shower & bidet . Plenty of storage . Gold drapes and walls . No tea making . Very comfortable beds & crisp linen . Plenty of lounges. Very friendly & helpful English speaking staff . Super pool down 70 steps. Breakfast was excellent . Otherwise I would recommend eating out in the town as evening meals were awfully disappointing . There is a new chef who is still learning !
