Good price, good location and walking distance from a street market and couple of bars that get really crowded. The service is ok, nothing out of the extraordinary. I had visitors and they ask them to wait in the lobby for you unless they walk in with you. It was a safe place as well.
My partner and I have been coming to this hotel for several years now, always opting to stay in a special room because they are notably more spacious, but only a fraction more expensive than the standard room. If we really want a treat then we stay in a suite with private jacuzzi. The designers of the hotel have used the space to cleverly that no matter what room you are in, you can always find a private area of terrace to relax and enjoy the beautiful gardens and artwork. We have always booked directly via the hotel website rather than a booking search engine because via the website you can pay upfront for the room an guarantee to get the type of room you want, and if like us you know the hotel well and want a very specific room, then this is also easy to arrange. Staff are very friendly and the rooms are well equipped. Breakfast is continental only, but is super tasty. For the price you pay, this hotel is a real treat.
They downgraded me from the super nice suite with private jacuzzi to an average room. Even after double checking weeks prior to the trip that all was in order with my reservation, they only mentioned they had done this after I had signed up the voucher. And all they offered in exchange was free breakfast (which is just juice and toast), I had to ask for a partial refund of at least the difference for the rooms that they promised they would make and never did. Seriously, I get it if people have had a nice stay in here, the hotel is pretty and quiet, but I got a very unfair treatment for no reason and the staff they were just acting like "oh well, s*@+ happens". Hope it doesn't happen to you though, 'cause it gets to ruin your whole stay. Didn't feel but uncomfortable and unwelcome for the whole weekend. Sad.
The picture paint a nice view of the hotel which in reality is not what you get. Looking at the price it is fair what you get, but Boutique Hotel? The breakfast is included, fruits, coffee and juice were good, the rest so lala. The location is close to the main square and as well to good restaurants, etc.
Pros: Everything. All we asked for was provided from ice to extra towels, to more than the 2 bottles of water or more coffee packets for in room coffee pot. Cons: Box Kleenex rather than packages. Body wash, rather than bar soap, in addition to shampoo, conditioner and lotion provided. No note paper or pen. Location: Centro Merida and some great restaurants all within a 5 to 10 minute walk. We always felt safe walking back and forth. After first night, we were upgraded to a larger room at our request which made all the difference. We had our own private pool area with lounge chairs and spent a good deal of time out there. The hotel has many tropical gardens with tall palm trees and it was like being at a resort in the middle of the city. The hotel is close to most everything in Centro Merida, yet was very quiet with little city noise. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Special kudos to Natalia for making our stay so perfect. A review we had read said that internet reception was disappointing. One evening, we could get no signal, mentioned this to the front desk and by that night it was restored. There was never another problem, any time of day. We have stayed at a much more expensive and lavish hotel in Merida and not enjoyed our stay or location as much, as at Koox. For us, there is no need to stay anywhere else on our next trip to Merida.
It was clean, helpful staff and a good price. It was close to restaurants and several of the plazas. Basic breakfast was nice with fresh fruit and excellent coffee. Small pool was nice for hot afternoons.
Set in Santiago area of Merida, Koox Boutique Hotels have a winner at the Art 57. Great location, vibrant atmosphere and great staff. My junior suite, Ponce, 2nd floor, was spacious and sunny. Blackout shades worked well. Room was spotlessly clean and well stocked with affordable mini bar and luxurious towels. Best part was the private dipping pool. In room coffeemaker too! I'll be back! Only downside preventing a full 5 stars was the spotty internet coverage in my room. Hopefully they will address this.
Spent two weeks in December 2016. The hotel is nice, with comfortable, clean rooms with a/c and tv. Wifi service is terrible but parking garage is close and convenient. Continental breakfast is good but not included. It is a 5 block walk to center and there isn't much very close to where you are. Compared to other nice hotels in centro the price is too high. Staff are great and very nice. Ask for rooms in the back as several in the front are right next to a busy street.
The first room we were put in was a disappointment. There were a lot of mosquitoes inside the room, it wasn't very clean, we had no towels and there were no AC remote batteries. After complaining, they moved us to a bigger room that was relatively mosquito free and cleaner. This was an improvement although the shower didn't drain and had to be fixed. House keeping took our towels but didn't bring new ones. Both rooms had a weird little pool attached to them that frankly I do not see the point of. They aren't heated or have jets, just water. I feel this hotel is a bit overpriced and really should be priced lower. Also, the continental breakfast is not a good value.
Checked in and our room was ready we were told. Had the Ponce room that included a small private pool. Got in the room and there were no towels. Got them half hour later. Someone left their old suitcase in the room. Put it outside in the common area where it stayed our whole stay. Wifi did not work. Pool was not cleaned upon arrival. Filled with bugs etc... asked to have it cleaned next day after still not cleaned. Breakfast very basic. Fruit and bread. Coffee. Juice. We loved our room. Spacious. Modern yet with old world vibe. Great tile floors. Great colors. Gave new water bottles each day. This is about 6 blocks away from the center so it was quiet. Loved our room. Staff kind of absent. Very reasonable price.
