The front desk person responded to the first sentence of my rusty French by indicating - "speak English - it will be easier." We were unaware that our room was not accessible by elevator, only by winding stairs. My husband, due for a hernia operation, could not carry bags. When asked if we could get a room reached by elevator, he shuffled papers and mumbled he could carry them b/c "after all, it is my job." Room is teeny tiny. My husband gashed his head on the large hook on the bathroom door. Breakfast is mediocre at best. Go elsewhere.
Center "vieux Lille" hotel recently completely re-decorated in gorgeous, relaxing neutrals with quality furniture and furnishings! Lobby is superb. Very comfortable, cosy, relaxing small hotel, right in the middle of the old part of Lille. Our room was very quiet (facing rear). Bed was wonderful! Warm welcome, our small dog was welcomed too-- no charge. Breakfast buffet generous and well-presented. Parking nearby was no problem, not expensive. We visited Lille Art Fair at the Grand Palais. Fun. Hotel is just short of luxurious as was missing a few touches.
