Stayed here for 4 nights while attending exec ed at MBS. The hotel is dated, but rooms are large. Bathroom newly renovated, very nice, possibly a bit cramped. Location is good and prices are reasonable. Lovely rooftop area and pool. Staff are friendly, especially the chef at breakfast!
Lovely stay, great room, comfy bed. Helpful, friendly staff. Good to stay where the staff take the time to lift their heads from the screen to make sure your stay is as good as possible. Thanks Rydges for making a difference to my getaway!
We came here for a party on the roof top pool deck. It was s very good spot for a party. However we were concerned when the fire alarm was going on off for close to 5 minutes before we were asked to make our way down the stairs to the front of the building. Thankfully it was a false alarm but the reaction time of staff was very slow. The rooms are small and average 3 star I would think unsure how they get a 4.5. Bathroom door is ridiculous! We stayed in a room with 2 queen sized beds ( there were 3 adults ) but they only supplied cups ect for two. Breakfast was $30 a head but there was a large selection available and cooked well. The beds were ok all in all it was a pretty good venue. Clean and tidy in a convenient spot.
Rydges on Swanston was situated conveniently for us being near Lygon St., Melbourne University and RMIT. It is also easy to come into from the airport and to exit to return to the airport. Although we were upgraded to a renovated room, the carpet was poorly fitted and had a large ridge down the centre which was a bit of a hazard. Great bed though. Pleasant people on the front desk and overall an ok hotel.
The elevator was constantly broken, forcing us to walk up and down stairs with our bags. Parking was not available for most of the day and we had to pay much more for local parking, which wasn't readily available. Rooms are very average, noisy with terrible bathrooms and amenities.
$500+ for one night. We booked the romance package for our anniversary. Details of stay below. * Parking: Didn't get told where it was, or how to get in. Had to park on the street and then go into hotel and then go back and get the car to move it. Didn't get told how to leave. Had to be told by random guy hauling dirty mattress in carpark that I need to go back up to reception to get a token to leave the carpark. * Smoking: On the way in, there was several adults smoking in the outdoors eating area while children were eating. Illegal, also terrible people. Staff did nothing. * Lunch: While waiting for our room, we ordered tapas. several items weren't available. The food that did come out was covered in flies! Indoors! Ordered cocktails, which came out without the garnishes. The staff acknowledged and appologised this, but were happy to charge full price with credit card charge anyway. Room: - Lounge - The couches were filthy and stained. Cigarette filter and old soap under the couch cushions! - Bed - Good - Bathroom - Good - Toilet - door was broken and wouldn't close even half way. - "Romance package" was supposed to include chocolate dipped strawberries - didn't get any. Was supposed to include later checkout at 2pm. was told twice that we would have to check out at 11pm because they'd already booked the room. Got checkout extended to 2pm on the third try after pointing out the package description. - Walls are PAPER thin. Screaming and banging from kids in other rooms late into the night. Room service food - Steak was actually cooked as ordered which was good. Called room service and asked for an extra blanket - didn't get one. Staff were all depressed and didn't care. Didn't get asked how the stay was (clearly didn't care) which is the reason I'm writing this review. If they asked, I would have told them every bit of the above. Now, you get to read how terrible they are. Summary: Probably ok for a cheap O/N business stay. Terrible for anything else.
The hotel was a weird mix of old and stale with some super modern amenities. I received a free upgrade to a "Park View" room on level 1, but the view I had was of a car park... The alarm clock went off at midnight and then the guy in the room next to me was having the loudest conference call ever at 4.30am so I did not get a peaceful night's sleep (I'm a mum of young children who don't sleep so was particularly disappointed). Work paid for the accommodation so I picked something pricier than I would have normally, but did not feel like it was value for money at all. The staff were really nice though.
We were somewhat disappointed with the room (booked believing 4.5 Star, however on arrival our room really wasn’t worthy of 4.5 stars). We didn’t complain though as the room was comfortable and only to sleep in during our busy trip and had the added bonus of a bathtub which is a big plus for me. However James the breakfast chef made our day EVERY morning. Happy, chatty and absolutely the most positive mood setting morning person ever! It must be a Queenslander thing 😜 Just by having his cheerful aura each morning really set us up for a full on day of walking and sightseeing. Thanks James, you really made our stay worthwhile. Employee of the year to you gets our vote!
Got a good deal for a three night stay, breakfast, wine and cocktails included, also free pushbike use, which we passed, due to bad weather. The hotel, whilst older, was comfortable and well appointed, close enough to the city to walk, 25 minutes for the moderately fit, but is on tram stop serviced by three regular tram routes. It's also a half hour walk to the very famous Queen Victoria Markets. The room was clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities included. The buffet breakfast was fresh and plentiful. The staff at the front desk were pleasant and helpful, the standout there was Jennifer who went many extra miles to enhance our experience at Rydges. All in all a very pleasant city break.
This is the third time I have stayed here in the last two years. I loved it the first time round, second time round and it just gets better. The staff are friendly and helpful. I had a small issue last time that was resolved in a polite manner and on checking in this time I was surprised with a delivery of a beautiful little afternoon tea plate and handwritten note from the manager welcoming me. Thank you it was so thoughtful. Take the time to have breakfast. The chef is friendly, funny and takes the time to make sure everyone is starting the day with a smile. He even remembered me from January when I was there last. Beds are super comfy, rooms are clean if a little worn in places, showers are great, loads of water and a choice of hand held or rain. They are doing renovations, on the same floor as me, but I was not aware of this until I saw them working as I left. Easy tram access, only three stops from Melbourne Central, and quieter than the centre of town.
