Our team had our quarterly planning session here and it was perfect. Great facility, staff and catering. All we needed are more, have locked this site in for all strategic planning sessions. Well deserved 5 stars!
Last minute relocation, and couldn't have been better looked after. Great board room with all AV equipment working straight away. Dinner was excellent and covered a wide variety of tastes. Thanks to the team for looking after us.
This is a basic business hotel close to University of Melbourne and on the tram line towards the central business district. The positives: + freshly made birchermuesli in the breakfast buffet every day, and a chef with a sense of humour! + friendly and competent front desk staff The negatives: - room walls are paper thin; I could hear coughs from the neighboring bedroom (it had a locked connecting door) and phone conversations from the corridor; luckily I didn't have any noisy neighbours. - creaky old elevator (just one for the entire hotel) which takes forever to move - the room was comfortable, if a little run-down The breakfast buffet was pretty reasonable, and the museli (see above) was fantastic.
Fantastic service, great location. Room were clean, bathroom could do with a bit of an upgrade however kept clean also. Easy access to public transport, close to Lygon Street, City Center and Victoria Market.
The hotel is a little on the older side but it has undergone some great renovations making it look fresh and modern. When we visited there were a number of new staff in training so some things took a little longer but was more than compensated by the exceptional customer service. They went to great lengths to ensure that we had a great stay and that is exactly what we did. I am looking forward to coming back.
As you enter the hotel, the lobby is swish and modern. The staff are friendly too. Lift is slow but not a huge problem. Unfortunately the room condition is a bit of an let down. Old, tired carpets with stains, noisy air conditioning with a stale smell, bathroom could do with freshening up too. Beds are comfortable though with good wifi. However it's rather worrying to see that the minibars are left for so long. Drinks and snacks in there almost a year out of date (no exaggeration). If you're going to rip people off with a minibar, at least give them edible food! Put me off eating in their restaurants. Pool area looked nice. Overall more 3 star hotel and not a good value for money place in Melbourne. If they invested a bit more things than the lobby I'm sure it'd be a fantastic hotel. Until then, the place is a good 10 years out of date. Ibis down the road looks much more modern. Up your game Rydges, especially on food hygiene before you dig yourself a hole!
The parking spaces were very tight. Some visitors parked over the line so you couldn't park next to them. There is only 1 lift and very slow. Why are buffet breakfasts always bearly warm? But the room was very nice and clean.
Stayed on Saturday night 3/2/18. Great value for money. Clean and comfortable king size bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Secure parking under hotel for $25 or free parking on street over weekends. Buffet breakfast was good. Good linen. Tea, instant coffee, UHT milk supplied. Late check-out. Would definitely stay again.
Stayed here in early January, and was very underwhelmed by the experience. - I had booked a King Standard, which stated a King Bed on website. On arrival, was told we were getting upgraded to a studio king. Great!!! But where was the King Bed? It even felt smaller than the queen i have at home. Quality was that of a 3star motel bed on castor wheels that moved alot. I queried with reception at 3am, after my new wife had pushed me out of bed in her sleep, and the response was, "it comfortably sleeps two adults", without actually telling me what size bed it was. - No in-room compendium to tell us about the hotel facilities, or room service menu. We only realised there was a pool by seeing a photo in the lift i think. We took a stroll up there (this whole area looks fantastic by the way) and saw guest laundry area and conference facilites. - We ended up eating downstairs in the Blues Bar. The chicken parma i had was terrible for dinner. Either over-cooked, or twice cooked in the fryer. Wedges were the best part of the dinner. - lack of space to sit on toilet in bathroom. If a were 3inchs taller, i would have been forced to use a public toilet. The staff overall, were nice and friendly. Given I work in hospitality, and have experience in 4.5star boutique hotels, this place was far from the level I would expect. I did email hotel directly, after my stay, to the email address listed in previous managers replies, as an apology or similar may have altered this review. No reply after 3weeks, so just another sour note to the experience. Would not recommend!!!!
This hotel surely is a home away from home. With all the restaurants at a walking distance you can eat morning noon and night. And the shops a couple of blocks away, all are accessible. And still the room we had was so quiet we slept like babies. Surely, me and my friends will come back.
