This is our favourite place to stay when in Melbourne. A short tram ride into the city, close to lots of restaurants in Victoria St, and Victoria Gardens shopping centre is a 5 minute walk. The units are well laid out and spacious, very comfortable, with good beds and pillows. Kitchens are well supplied with everything you could need including a full size oven and fridge. Perfect for a short stay, you could even happlily live in one of these units.
Stayed here for the weekend-it was excellent. Clean, good views, all the amenities including a coffee machine, wifi, decent sized rooms and good location. Water pressure was relatively low and the elevators were slow, but was still worth the time. Highly recommended.
We are locals who actually live 5 mins away, but relocated whilst our floors were sanded. Stayed for 5 nights, rooms spacious, location handy, views terrific. Will recommend to friends and any relatives travelling to Melbourne.
This new building is close to my company’s Melbourne office and I’ve started using Playouse every few weeks. New clean apartments. The ability to collect a key after 8pm (with some details pre-exchanged by email) is good. Apartments sometimes smell like vinegar when you enter.
Ended up having a very nice stay here. Unfortunately there is a new high rise building site in full swing but that's life. Rooms very spacious, have everything you need, lifts run quick, indoor gym small but not crowded and lap pool ideal for a couple of swimmers.Only issue we had was there is no set car parking spot on site when booking in or out. You have to park on side street and walk in.
Apartment was clean, new and had everything we needed. Tram stop and IGA just around the corner and Victoria Gardens shopping centre a short walk away. Also went for a walk next to the Yarra river which was quite pleasant.
Sometimes they can be conflicting requirements to find a reasonably priced apartment in a big city but I think Playhouse achieves this. It is conveniently located although very tight to get into and park. Parking itself is a reasonable $20 a night if required. Our apartment was long and thin with a corridor from the door leading past the bedrooms, bathroom and laundry cupboard to the kitchen/living area and then out to the balcony. It made a very good holiday apartment but probably not so good to live in due to lack of storage. The kitchen had good appliances including a capsule coffee machine. It's nice to cook on gas again - so much faster and more consistent than electricity. The fridge made some strange noises but worked well. There is a dishwasher but I ended up handwashing. The shower is quite large but could have been a bit cleaner. The laundry was good with a dryer. The beds were comfortable as was the couch in the living area. Unusually access was by a regular key rather than swipe card and take note that the door does not lock automatically - you have to manually lock it when you leave. Finally, despite the much-vaunted Internet by Commander, it bordered on unusable in the mornings and evenings with massive packet loss. I work in the industry and steer my customers clear of Commander who only resell other carriers despite being part of Vocus - a carrier. It appeared to be a fairly fast circuit when it was working but definitely needs some attention to put bandwidth limits in per user. I usually used my own travel router with 4G to create a hotspot.
This is our second stay at the Playhouse Apartments and on both occasions have been very happy with our choice. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The apartments are clean, well equipped and in good working order. They seem to be quite sound proof for a reasonably large apartment block. Access to cafes, trams, supermarkets and bottle o's is extremely handy. The walks along the Yarra are great and easy to access. Overall a great, convenient and nice place to stay. Our only complaint is the extra charge for a high chair. I can understand a charge for a portacot due to washing of linen, etc but to charge for a high chair is a little unreasonable. I would think it would be in their interest to make sure a toddler is contained whilst eating but at $15/night along with $15/night for a portacot it seemed excessive and unneccesary.
These apartments are well appointed and in an excellent location 10 mins from the CBS by tram and 10 mins from Kew. There is a great pub nearby which serves meals, also nearby an iga and bottle shop Will stay here again
Apartment was extremely clean and had all the necessities. Air conditioning worked perfectly and TV had a range of channels to suit. Tram stop situated around the corner which takes you into the city in no time, failing that you can stroll into the city in around 40 mins. Everything you need on your doorstep and staff really helpful.
