Yeah... I might be getting too old for this kind of places ! Or is this place getting too old ? "Free WiFi" is free only from 7am to 7pm, then you have to pay... what a cheap move ! No individual light by the bed, only light on the ceiling in the dormitories. Keycards nonsense to open the room and use the lift (they work 1 of & 10 times) and noisy doors that do not shut but slam. + side : good location, near the very nice Flagstaff Gardens (and Komegashi japanese restaurant !), pancakes in the morning served with a smile. Very cute outside "bar" area. Good place if you are traveling on a tight budget and are able to sleep anywhere. Unfortunately I am not and I barely slept.
The bathrooms were gross with no evidence that they ever get cleaned. The whole place is really run down, the only upside is that it is pretty close to town but by no means the best location available. They also only give you a comforter (no top sheet) to sleep with that never gets washed.
Great accommodation. Own bathroom. Free pancakes for breakfast!! Should have a sign saying you need to login with 'Tipi' before checking in as we waited in line only to be told this... And end up at the back of the line again. Overall fabulous stay.
Hostel wasn't special, no people hanging around in the common areas and really an everyone on his own atmosphere. Rooms were ok but not super, not really clean (also not dirty) and bo power points near the bed. Showers were poor. Kitchen wasn't too bad and breakfast was ok. Not the best hostel to start my trip with as I didn't meet a lot of people here
First of all I arrived early, I couldn't even leave my bags because the luggage storage room was full to the brim, so I had no other choice but to sit with my bags for 3 hours before I could check in. Once I checked into a 10 bed dorm, I was greeted by the stench of a 60+ year old man who had set up camp in the dorm, he looked like he had been in that bed for years, and not showered since. Wow lucky me, the only bed available was one next to his. I left my bags on my bed and went into town. When I come back from shopping, there's another man probably about 50 years old sitting on my bed with loads of his things spread all over my "clean bed", he apologises and moves his things up onto the bed above mine, I just didn't feel comfortable being a 25yr old female in a room full of old men who can't even take responsibility to shower them selves when there are free facilities to do so. I asked a guy at reception if I could move rooms, he said were fully booked sorry! I said I weren't happy to I'm going to have to move or have a refund. After telling me several times they were fully booked, he eventually found a room I could move to. Funnily enough this room had 2 free beds in ALL night, weird I guess seems they're fully booked. The room it's self was ok and clean, The bunk beds were squeaky which I weren't too bothered about but there didn't seem to be anyone controlling the noise after 11pm. If the girl checking me in was to have judged me as a character checking in and put me in an appropriate room, and not the room where they stick the homeless old men, I would have enjoyed my stay and this review would have been positive. Unfortunately she didn't. I should have gone somewhere else.
When I arrived in my dorm and chose a bed I noticed it had hairs and dust all over the "clean" sheets. I inspected the rest of the free beds, same thing with all of them. One day I found out why: when the cleaner came into the room to make beds, she carried the fresh sheets in on her hands and threw them all on the disgusting dirty floor (that hadn't been cleaned in days) and then started to make the beds taking the sheets from the floor one by one. She also climbed on the beds with her work clothes and shoes on while making them. Lovely. Cleaners didn't clean the dorm floors at all during my 3 night stay, it was full of dirt. They also didn't clean the bathroom at all in two days: rubbish bin overflowing, no toilet paper, dirty disgusting floor, toilet and sink, and a bad smell. I had to ask the staff to clean it. Nothing happened in 3 hours so I had to ask again. The only thing they did to "clean" the toilet was take the rubbish out and bring toilet paper. Ridiculous. Otherwise it was as gross as before. I also used the bathrooms on another floor after moving from one dorm to another. The bathrooms were just as bad. The only thing the cleaners did was take the rubbish out. Floors were dirty, toilet was smelly, sink had slime and what else all over it. One bathroom had blood(!!!) on the white wall but no one ever bothered to wipe it off. Anytime I saw the two cleaners on that floor they seemed to be chatting and giggling rather than doing their job. Dirty super small kitchen. Got my bag full of food stolen during my first night, apparenly no cameras in the kitchen cause staff said there's nothing they can do about it. Wi-fi is very bad, works only til 7pm in the lobby (or doesn't) Staff don't seem to care about anything Yes they have free pancakes, but those do not make up for everything else that's wrong with the hostel. They probably keep making them just to lure people to come and stay and to make the hostel seem a little more like a nice place, which it is NOT.
Great quality for what you pay! rooms were clean, comfortable beds, free pancakes in the morning and free rice and pasta in the common kitchen. Only bad thing is that for some reason alcohol is not allowed anywhere in the hostel and they also do not sell it. Would be nice if more activities at night would be organized, staff is not very helpful when it comes to get some info about parties in town.
Myself and a group of friends booked to stay in a 6 bed dorm for one night in October 2017. We arrived before the check-in time and were able to store our bags and come check back in later. When we arrived back at Nomads to check in (roughly 6pm) there was a small line of people waiting to check in also. We waited an unnecessarily long amount of time for the disinterested counter staff to then tell us that we needed to go and use their automated systems to scan our identification and fill in all of our details etc. After struggling with malfunctioning equipment for some time we headed back to the main counter where other guests who arrived after us were seen to first in seemingly no particular order. When we were finally acknowledged by the staff if was fairly clear that they didn't want to be working there. It took a further 20 minutes for the staff to finally check us in and give us the (5) room keys (of which only 2 worked). Approximately an hour to simply get checked in is unreasonable, I won't be booking here again.
Booked for 5 night, good value for money, large private room and near walking distance to many interesting place. Daily free tourist guide around the city, great reception from the front desk team!! Would stay there again in future.Strong recommend to all backpackers.
Booked a private room for two nights at this hostel. Such good value for money, as nice as most budget hotel rooms at a much lower price, very comfortable with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Have to say the front desk staff were particularly good, so helpful and friendly, helped us out with a room last minute and got us checked straight in. They really went above and beyond and were very considerate with our situation. Beds were comfortable, wifi was really good and as I say staff were so helpful can't thank them enough! Would recommend to most travelling and wanting to be in the heart of Melbourne.
