We really enjoyed our stay, beautiful hotel, excellent room service, very clean, comfortable and spacious. We will definitely return to sample spa treatments etc.Great view of Croagh Patrick from our room and restaurant. Very friendly staff. Very peaceful surroundings and lots of interesting places to see and enjoy.
Stayed here for a weekend for a family occasion. This is my 4th visit, each a couple of yrs apart. I've always liked Knockranny & this time was no different. Overall, we had a lovely weekend & would recommend the hotel. Positives for us included the relaxed atmosphere (even with a wedding on the premises), the beautiful views, the lovely bar and restaurant and the friendly helpful staff in each, dinner in the restaurant which was, as always, very good (esp the hake and seabass, both delicious and the lovely hazelnut and pistachio ice-creams), very comfortable beds and the beautiful pool and fantastic spa experience - great treatments for a very good price in a lovely ambiance by really good (and friendly) therapists, followed by fresh fruit in a lovely relaxation room overlooking the beautiful pool area. In fact, the spa is definitely one of the hotel's strongest points. Also before we arrived, the hotel were very facilitative regarding a change in our booking and in allocating us a room suitable for one of our party who had special requirements and the staff in the restaurant made a special effort to say happy birthday and subtly put some special touches on dessert for the person whose birthday we were celebrating. That said, there were a few negatives which were disappointing, though they definitely didn't spoil the experience or outweigh the positives. They were probably exacerbated by the fact that this stay was quite a bit more expensive than any of my previous stays and yet there were far more negatives this time. *First, we had a disappointing experience with housekeeping on our 2nd day & while we didn't mind too much about the original issue as long as it got resolved that eve, we ended up having to ring Reception twice about it and even after that, while bare minimum was done, we still ended up without any hand towels or bathmats (for a slippy tiled floor) and without any attempt having been made at doing the beds. *Also while we had requested a walk in shower for one of our party who had mobility issues and our room had a lovely walk in shower and in fact a very nice bathroom, you could only turn on the shower with sheer brute force and the noise from the pipes was very loud. The plumbing in my parents' room next door was similar with a choice between a huge rush of water spurting from the hot tap in the wash hand basin and drenching the person trying to put it on or nothing at all happening when you turned the tap on. *Also a couple of other minor points but, when all's said and done, hotels are all about the details: - no bottles of water in bedrooms (which I would see as standard these days) and no mini-bar so no option to even buy a bottle, tho rooms could get very hot; - no robes in room (although there were on previous visit which cost less than half the price of this one!); - selection of wines on bar menu v limited and those we tasted weren't great; - while dinner in restaurant was lovely, we all felt that the bar food was ok at best & not particularly tasty - soup was lukewarm (tho the staff member who changed it for us was apologetic & very helpful), a goat's cheese salad was bland & an €8 toasted chicken sandwich looked & tasted like dry toast with chicken breast - it was one of the most boring and overpriced sandwiches I've ever seen). We had intended lunching in the bar on the Sunday also before heading away but on basis of previous day's fare, decided to go elsewhere. As I noted above, none of these were huge issues and we had a lovely time and would return but, that said, it would be good to see some progress made on some of these in the meantime.
Spend two nights here in August with my wife, a beautiful hotel with excellent food in both the bar and resteraunt, professional and friendly staff, the spa is second to none, ideally located, really enjoyed our stay and will be back
A well kept beautiful hotel with spacious and clean rooms. Staff and service are top notch. Although an older hotel it has been well kept and well appointed. Breakfast had many varied choices, hot and cold, to fit everyone's needs.
A Beautiful Hotel! The setting, close to Westport town is perfect. The hotel itself is really high class. It's design is guaranteed to make you feel relaxed. All the staff were really friendly and courteous
For a starter, try the goat cheese or the scallops. And for the main course the lamb is excellent. Served medium, as the chef recommends, it is pink, moist and delicious. For wine a nice, yet inexpensive Cote du Rhone was perfect. As a wise man once told us, "you can't go wrong with a good Cote du Rhone."
I stayed in this hotel for a 3 night break in September and enjoyed it immensely. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a break in the West of Ireland. It is a really luxurious hotel, beautiful swimming pool/spa/gym. We had dinner one evening and it was Masterchef standard. The room was luxurious with 4 poster bed and lovely bathroom with jacuzzi bath. Lots to do in the area, boat cruise of Clew Bay and the Islands, trip to Clare Island, trip to Achill Island and much more.
I have stayed here. A number of times before, and wondered If It was still as good as I remembered from some years back. I was not disappointed, still fabulous. My friend and I use battery-powered scooters and the only drawback, was the entrance to the hoteL is not wheelchair friendly. The good thing is the hotel staff where very attentive, and with the help of staff, and the use of some ramps we managed to get in and out when necessary. Obviously this is not ideal but worked quite well most of the time. Everything else is absolutely great - the Rooms not forgetting the Beautiful food as always. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, without a doubt one of the best - you will not be disappointed. Give it I try why not.
Yet another excellent stay in Knockranny. Excellent food and accommodation as per previous visits. Couldn't ask for more helpful and pleasant staff. Will hopefully return soon. Thank you once again for a very enjoyable stay.
