Grand Tonic Hotel Marseille-Vieux Port

The hotel is disgusting. More like a 2* than a 4*. Our main problem was how dirty the room was and the hotel upkeep in general. There was a visible layer of dust on the walls and were sneezing right after entering the room. There was mold in the shower. No hot water at night. Elevator sounded like it was ready to breakdown. Iron ruined my shirt. Avoid this hotel.

It is not a 4 star hotel. Towel is very old. Hotel is old which is okay. Furniture is okay. Staff is very nice and helpful.

Great location - the only thing great. My room on the 5th floor was a walk-up from the 4th floor - elevator did not service the top floor. No windows in my room - 2 sky lights @ 1 meter squared. Sloped ceiling in bathroom prevented me from standing in the shower - had to kneel in the bath tub to bathe. No coffee service available in the room. Fortunately (?!) a McDonald's next store where I could get a quick AM coffee. Can't comment on the rooms on the lower floors but, despite location, I would not return to this hotel. Fortunately, had only 1 day of my 20 day travels in Marseille.

I have for many years wanted to visit Marseille and explore the Provence. The trip was a dream come true and we were not disappointed. It's a bit Bohemian like San Francisco with a French accent. Pleased with the clean room, reasonable comfortable bed and amenities. The receptionist was helpful however, had difficulty communicating in English. Overall a 4!

Perfect hotel for experiencing Marseille. Right on the harbor.

A friend and I decided last minute to spend the weekend in Marseille (we live in central France). We booked an apartment to rent online, but the apartment owner had yet to give us the address or the keys as of 19h (7pm) on the day of our arrival, so we decided to book a hotel. Found this hotel online and loved it! very clean and comfortable, and directly in the vieux-port of marseille (30 second walk from the bus stop). highly recommend!

Nice view, comfortable beds, helpful staff. Will definitely stay again.

i am in france to see more of this region and purchase a small property in Provence and had not been to marseille; marseille will be the big city when i am here.Came in winter to see the worst time of year. Recover from travel before moving to my business part of trip. Hotel in great location for first time highlight type of visit and staff helpful and proper. Good price i suppose. Would be a true bargain if only it were really four stars. Stale smoke odor, smallest room with view of dirty laundry in back. Dirty, dingy carpets in halls and stairwells. Looked in larger room when maid was cleaning and it was not nicer, just larger and had view of port. Bathroom was nicest part of room. Small desk, cheap hard mattress and unfinished drywall around closet. No place to rest and chill, only sleep.

Clean and right in the center of town and 25 yards from the Metro. Too pricey though for what it is. You're much better finding something on your own like Ibis or Kyriad.

Hotel saved the wrong room type for us. After a little negotiation, we got the right room. Hotel is well situated, but much smaller than its advertising pictures would indicate. Breakfast was acceptable in quality, but expensive. We thought next time we would try a different hotel for this price.

Small but clean room. Tight airconditioned space. Nice Shower. Great Location on the old harbour of Marseille. Lots of Restaurants within walking distance. Med beaches 5 minutes by car or by bus. Bus pickup at hotel. No pool at hotel. Charter boat service to isles from across the road. Friendly staff. Paid underground parking at hotel Euro 9.40 for 24 hours. 30 minutes from international airport Marseille/Marignane. 2 hrs by car from Cannes, Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo. 90 mins from Saint Tropez.

This hotel was convenient to everything. The restaurant that the hotel has was spotless and the food was very good. The hotel is just across the street from the harbor and sailing. We took a trip out to the islands and had dinner there. The view of Marseilles was fantastic. It was so peaceful and with the sounds of the water and the sky full of stars, it was beautiful.. When we returnedit was just across the street to our hotel.

this is a great location on vieu port next to the coast line. There are several good french restaurants as well as art stands. 3 blocks away is a nice shopping area with Louis vuitton and other stores, just DO NOT GO ON SUNDAY! Everything in the area is closed! would have been 5 stars if we could have gotten a double bed instead of 2 singles, unfortunately all the double beds were booked.
