My review is about the Crab night on a wednesday at the restaurant. They serve an amazing portion of delicious creole crabs, on that night, the flavour is a little on the spicy side but nothing one cannot palette. you can have it served with rice or fries, they are very accommodating and willing to satify their customers. It was my birthday treat, with my daughter and family we had a great night. Our sever I think her name was Sancha if i am not mistaken, took very good care of us and we left very impressed.
the crab was so delicious, Lisa and Shaniah were excellent servers great customer service 10 /10 would definitely return. the ambiance was perfect I loved it. I will bring more friends next time I return.
The restaurant sits on a dock at one end of Marigot Bay. Take a small boat from the pier of the Marina to the restaurant dock. This 4 or 5 minute trip gives you a great view of the yachts and motor cruisers in the bay. You'll get a great welcome and interaction with the staff during lunch or dinner! The first time we went was the Wednesday crab night - you have to be able to eat the crab local style! The menu has some gems on it, particularly the coconut shrimp, red snapper and the stuffed chicken which we had on our second visit. The food was very well preaperd and presented - one of the nicest meals we had during our visit to the island.
I must commend the management and staff on such excellent customer service at their restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to see that such a small establishment could showcase such. Rhea was consistently smiling and went out of her way to make us comfortable the both times we went there to dinner. Keep up the good work guys!
Our first half stay in St Lucia for our honeymoon was in this resort. It is beyond our expectation. The staff decorated our room after they learned it was our honeymoon. They moved us to a much nicer room after they found there was an issue on hot water. The staff were very nice and friendly. The resort is beautiful and located at gorgeous Marigot Bay. Room was nice and clean. Resort is close to capital. It is a good value.
We spent two weeks at JJ’s and in spite of some minor difficulties, had a very good time. JJ himself is a fine host, his staff was more than helpful and accommodating. The Restaurant looks out over the harbor and only sometimes the view is blocked by mega million dollar yachts. Food is good and fresh; there is a plentiful buffet six days per week. For a break the water taxi takes you over the water to a nice beach at Doolittle’s Restaurant, or the other side of the bay for a great Indian Restaurant overlooking the water. The accommodations we had near the pool had a mosquito net (but bring a spray or patches with you....this is the tropics by the way!). We blew out a breaker first night ...our fault.....we did not bring a 220 v rated hair dryer, but the staff quickly found us a loaner dryer for the duration of our stay, and the maintenance man was there late Sunday within a few minutes of the call to reset the breaker. For sure bring non slip flip flops....tile in bathrooms and the walkway to the restaurants gets slippery when wet. JJ accommodated one of us with mobility issues, and his drivers are safe and courteous...available for tours around the island. A light above the sink mirror in the bathrooms would be good for visitors with contacts....mention it to JJ if you need one. And be sure to avail yourself of the great assortment of (reasonably priced) gifts from the sweet lady who sets up her wares a few times a week on the premises. Lastly, if you realize you are in the islands, not the Ritz Carlton, you will appreciate the warmth of the people and overlook some of the tiny niggling issues that some of us “over spoiled” travellers think we can’t live without. Enjoy the beauty of this marvelous island! Tom M. Reading, Pa, USA.
We had booked for 3 nights in a ‘junior suite’ as that was all that showed on the search engines. For St Lucia it was about average for what all was showing but for what you got.. over priced. You approach at dusk in the rain by a very very steep pot holed road which had rubbish signage showing where it was.. you arrive at the back of a restaurant where you could park and the reception is an open sided run down area of a building behind. The lady on reception was pleasant enough and asked for full payment as the internet had taken a deposit only. After paying this there was no information about restaurants, how to get around the bay, what the hotel could offer etc etc... a girl showed us to Apartment 7 which was a short walk past the toilets, passed someone’s home, down a path and ahead was a concert 2 storey building with 4 apartments.. on entering.. it was a dark grim concrete room, badly painted yellow and orange walls, damp ceilings, curtains falling off the window.. large bed, sheets ripped! Kitchenette had handles missing from doors, fridge was missing legs and looked like it would topple over, bathroom had tiles missing and a rusty old shower head that dribbled cold water... this was their ‘junior suite’ We went to the mangrove restaurant , you walk down a rickety wooden walkway through the mangrove into the wooden hut of a restaurant bar which has a great view of Margot Bay, and had our welcome rum cocktail.. we were getting eaten alive so Passed on dinner and went to bed. Bed was comfy.. no mosquito net above bed or nets on windows so we had company all night!! We were so disappointed at what we had experienced we were about to leave and hope for a refund.. no wonder they took full payment.. The next day at reception we asked for a room change due to damp and bathroom, we were told there was no more ‘Junior suites’ but they did have a cabin... we looked at it.. although basically built of wood and patched up it was a vast improvement so we moved.. we then saw the rest of the property.. lots of little wooden cabins set in gardens up the hill with a small pool at the bottom.. all very quaint, although still run down. The new room was cheaper than the original, but as it was our decision to move, no refund or offer of complimentary breakfast... as we had missed dinner we thought we would try breakfast.. mistake... all breakfasts should come with Toast tea/coffee.. we chose omelette.. it came... no cutlery, no coffee no toast.. we chased the girl up.. we got coffee, no milk.. chased up again... and toast... milk arrived, coffee now cold... cold stale toast we had to ask for butter... everything just seemed an effort for the staff who were pretty miserable... we wouldn’t eat there again and they had blown there chance of a New Years Eve booking. Thank goodness we were only here for 3 nights.
From 1st impression to the last - awesome I've walked into highly rated hotels and fallen ill because of the contaminated air in the room. Every time I walked into the room at JJs Paradise it is like a breathe of fresh air, imagine coming from outside going in, the linen and the towels,so fresh and clean-yay to Yolanda and her team. Ohhh the food...Finger licking good Joyce's burger was so juicy and flavour-fabulous plus her fried chicken breast-Never had fried chicken breast before-don't think that I will be able to replicate these soft pieces of heaven-such a great "cheat" treat. Natalius Gabriel for the crab on a Wednesday every morsel was savoured, nothing escaped-man the flavour of the gravy-it was thanksgiving with crab. Every meal I ate, every member of JJs team, inclusive of JJ himself - a very personal gentleman - made my birthday an experience to remember. Thank you so very much from Mr. and Mrs. Linwall Nantonjames.
We stayed two nights while waiting for our Windjammers’s cruise - it was recommended we arrive a bit early just in case. We were okay with the very “rustic” ambience. Okay with having to change rooms due to broken toilet in one and no A/C in another. When she moved us to our new room she said it may be a bit loud as they were hosting a fundraiser that night. We heard or saw nothing until they started setting up about 10pm. The earth rattled. It didn’t matter what cottage you were in, the “music” and screaming was that loud! And lasted until almost 3am. Honestly it was so loud it was hard to describe. Absolutely no reason for it. And, of course the cottages are in shape or form soundproof. As our traveling companions said, it was funny at 10, even 11; not so much at 2am. Broken lamps, no toiletries, etc, fine. But if you’re looking for peaceful surroundings no guarantees.
JJ’s Paradise has somewhat of a “family” feel to it. It caters to the “budget traveler.” The staff are very friendly. They go out of their way to arrange anything or look into anything for you. I am vegetarian, and they have provided excellent meals for me. When JJ is on the property, he also checks to see that you are enjoying your stay. I am not one that will take to driving here. So I did not rent a car. It is a bit costly to get around by taxi, but possible. You just have to be sure and have your day planned and organized, which is not always ideal when you are on vacation. My room is clean and spacious. And I am able to fix food for myself if need be. You can used the water taxi to get to the beach on the bay or a shopping district and bank. The bay is rather lovely and there are many large yachts that anchor here. Don’t be shy... inquire at the reception desk for anything you need. Ahhh yes... you might get the impression that St Lucia is for couples only. I’m a single traveler. And at times, it feels that way. But make the most of it. Be the inspiration, rather than waiting for it. :) Very clean, good service and a sweet night’s sleep
