good for budget stay

This is essentially the downscale economy wing of the Pendulum Hotel (even better known as Manchester Conference Centre in case you're asking locals for directions.) These hotel rooms are described as a student residence hall in some of their printed literature. Pluses: Clean, with a large desk space and adequate furniture. Friendly and helpful front desk / reception staff (of Pendulum Hotel which handles Weston Hall as well.) Free WiFi in reception area (my room was close where this signal was strong enough to use in my room.) 5 - 10 min walk from Piccadily train station (take Granby Row, then left on Sackville St.) Easy walking distance from interesting places in Manchester downtown. The room was small with a single twin bed but acceptable. Attached bathroom was also tiny but adequate, with bare toiletries - soap and shampoo. It's old fashioned. The sink has separate hot and cold water faucets without a mixer. Entry to room is still with a key, not electronic card keys. The biggest challenge was initially finding my room as they have different zones in each floor with the same set of numbers. Took me a few minutes locating my room after some wrong turns, going through several corridors and fire doors. Water was just a trickle in the shower in my fourth (top) floor in the morning, presumably when many folks in lower floors were using their bathrooms. But my overall experience was good, at a hard to beat price.

best choice for manchester

For the price, I was bracing myself for what I could expect.. But it was a really great experience. Staff is very friendly, rooms very clean. If you like a big bed or luxury surroundings this is not the hotel for you. But if you want a clean comfortable affordable place in the middle of everything, you'll be happy.
