We booked this resort as our first holiday at an all inclusive because it looked perfect for our 2 children ages 4 & 5. Even though this ended up being the worst holiday experience I have ever had I feel I will still make this review fair. The first few days while our boys were well was ok. The good: The boys initially loved the pool and beach area as all children would, but after day 5 even they got a bit bored with this, this is not of course the hotels fault. The surf and fifties restaurant are lovely, i didn't mind paying extra for the fifties one. The tapas is not so good. The breakfast choices were nice, and lunch and dinner choices at the buffet were nice but a lot of food was repeated. Wine beer and drinks and ice creams etc for kids are great. The bad: At first our air con was not working well but we complained and it seemed to get better. We payed for 7 day premium wifi and this hardly worked. We complained several times and they just kept saying the technician will fix this. The mini disco did not cater for English speaking children at all. One night our kids went do an on stage performance which we did not realise would mean they were going to be away for an hour and a half. We were worried they wouldn't like it so repeatedly asked to see them and kept being told no that we could not go back stage. Eventually I asked for them to be taken out of the show. When they saw me they said they didn't like it and asked to see Mommy but were told to shhhhh. They also said they took their clothes off to put them into Dalmatian costumes which I was not happy about. I realise they may have done this so the kids were not to hot in clothes and costumes but feel they should be asking the parents consent. After this we decided not to use the kids clubs which we really didn't see any happening anyway. You do have to claim an area by the pool but I think this is the same for all resorts. The superior family suite only refers to location of the room and not the room itself being superior. Now for the awful part: The first day we arrived I saw a child in the pool area with a terrible looking rash, at the time I did think I hope this is not contagious but figured it must be ok. After 5 days my 4 year old was terribly ill with a rash and blisters and what looked like chemical burns all over his body, I was worried it was a reaction to the "kids spa circuit" which half of doesn't work but you end up in the pool and jacuzzi which smells so strongly of chlorine it nips your eyes. I immediately told my boys to get out. I thought his skin reacted to this but when we went in to see the hotel doctor we were told almost immediately it was hand foot and mouth. This immediate diagnosis made me feel he was aware of this being a regular problem. This is not like hand foot and mouth I have ever seen before, whilst I do beleive he was correct I feel it is a particularly bad strain of it. My son could not even walk on his swollen blistered feet and his pjs were too sore on his entirely blistered legs. We were not told to keep him in our room to keep this disease contained which we did on our own accord, and were told it was ok to fly if he was covered up. I thought it was meningitis because he was so ill with it. I was desperate to get home and tried to book us on an early flight. Once home the doctor here felt some parts were infected and gave antibiotics. This started clearing up but is still very bad right now. I have never been so worried on holiday. I do understand childhood diseases can spread but I feel it is also the hotels responsibility to inform of such diseases. Even once our child was diagnosed there were no warnings for other parents and this is a resort full of families with small children. I rarely write reviews but I feel this is an important warning to give parents. This puts me off family friendly all inclusive resorts because the more I look into it this seems to happen a lot at all inclusive hotels. I wish I did not book this rather expensive holiday and could have saved our poor son a lot of pain.
This hotel is on a scale I've never experienced, it's huge. Split into 4 sections, across a roundabout and normal roads and on a hill. Our room was in area b, lovely split room with garden, perfect for us. Shower was brilliant. Having a 2yr in a buggy meant trundling up the hill everyday to get to it room. This annoyed me by the ending our holidays. The hill is pretty steep. Area c with the water parks was brilliant fun for the kids. However be prepared for bed wars once the locks are released. It's like nothing I've ever seen, ppl lying towels on the floor to guard a space and holding onto the stack of beds ready for them to open. This really annoyed me and after 2 days we moved areas and would pop up in the afternoon for an hour or so. Area a is the largest pool, to the left is the smaller pool surrounded by cabana beds, it's was lovely and chilled. We spent 8 days here between the cabanas or normal beds when we could be bothered to get up at 7 to get a bed. The cabanas are 15 euros per day & were fab to get a long lie.we classed this as the Brit pool, felt like home from home. The food was to a great standard, and loads of choice. However if you don't go at 6.30 for opening time, it's crazy. The hotel is extremely busy. We had to queue every Nite for our meal and once in, it was bedlam getting to the food. For younger kids take your own cups, or its glasses. Entertainment in area b, sounded really good, we sat on our terrace, enjoying the music. We ate out a couple of times to escape the carnage of the restaurant, towards the beach is an Italian & play arcade. The food was amazing and worth every penny. Kids loved the arcade. Beach is nice, had a few cocktails at the beach bar. The hotel is extremely clean, and the staff all work hard. Reception staff were a bit hit or miss depending who served you. I would definitely return, maybe not summertime tho, the amount of guests was far to much for me. I would def pick to stay in area a going forward. Overall great time had, loads to do for my 2 & 12 yr old
Well if you want a well run, impeccably clean and efficient hotel in a nice setting you can't go wrong here. Great staff that are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good and varied even when feeding a fussy pair of kids. There are two buffet restaurants, we chose the indoor one mostly as it was a little more quiet and the other was quite noisy and a bit of a fight to get to the good stuff. Be are you have to pay for the 50's restaurant. We thought it was a one visit free thing but no, you have to pay so we gave it a miss. There are two a la cart restaurants that you get one visit at but you had to book and honesty we couldn't be bothered as the food in the buffet was good enough. The pools are nice but get your sun beds early because you won't get one if you don't get your towels out! That's a bit annoying. The beach is close but doesn't belong to the hotel and gets very very busy. We wondered down there on occasion for a walk and paddle but it's a narrow cove so was horribly busy to the point where you can nearly get to the sea! The hotel is huge. We were in the main building where the main pool and bar are. The other blocks are across the road and it's all split. The water park is in block c, block b seems the quietest. Overall a great, we'll run hotel but it is big and there are a lot of people. Not sure if I'd come again only because I prefer smaller, quieter venues. For all the right reasons though, great hotel.
After reading some bad reviews I thought I should do one as some guests obviously had a bad experience. Stayed there last 2 weeks of June and had a fabulous time.A lot of reviews state lots of kids and very busy ...yes it is as it is a child friendly resort with lots to do for them also 2 beautiful beaches must be great if you have kids If you don't then the adult area is fantastic We stayed in a great apartment 1103 just above the swim Up rooms overlooking the pool There is an adult only restaurant where you can have breakfast lunch and dinner a bar with branded drinks run by great staff Angie Jorge and all the team are a credit to the hotel Also the adult area has its own entertainment 3 time a week with a mixture of sax player singers and guitarist which we thoroughly enjoyed. We found the food good ...ate in adult restaurant every other night waiter service always a nice experience...there is an adult seating area in the main restaurant and yes to get your food is a bit crazy but what do you expect when catering for lots of children as this hotel does The hotel has got it right to try and cater for both as the adult area is an oasis of tranquillity we loved it so much we are thinking of booking Sept/Oct our only negative is the aircon in our room did not work through the night hope this is not the norm as would love to return but only if we had a room in adult area
Travelled as a couple. Lovely hotel - we stayed in the Adults only section which had a great pool area. Our room was comfortable and cleaned to a high standard every day. The South Beach Club bar at the adults only pool was the best we've experienced. The staff there, especially, Angie, Jorge & Braulio were fantastic. They were so friendly and very informative on things to do and places to see. Meal times could be manic most days but we ate outside in the adults only section so didn't have to queue at mealtimes. The food was really good. No complaints at all. There was a wide variety of food to choose from. We ventured over to the family section to see what the entertainment was like but it was pretty average and the area was very busy so we stayed at the adults only bar all the time. Entertainment there was on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Usually a duo singing on Tues & Thurs and a Jazz saxophonist on Sat who was very good but played the same numbers both weeks we were there. We couldn't fault the hotel, the only downside being the actual location. It is situated just outside Porto Cristo (only 5 minutes away by taxi). We usually take a walk after our dinner, however there wasn't anywhere of interest to go. The surrounding area is a bit shabby, although there are some lovely houses nearby. There are a couple of supermarkets and a few of the usual gift shops. There is also car hire directly across the road from the hotel. There are also a couple of beaches - the nicer beach (Cala Anguila) less than a 10 minute walk away but that's about it. There is a taxi rank and bus stop just outside the hotel so we took a taxi into Porto Cristo a couple of days and also went to Sa Coma where we stayed last year.which is about 10 mins away. Porto Cristo is lovely and has a busy harbour. The purpose of our holiday was for sunshine and relaxation and we certainly got both. Not sure if we would return to this hotel, purely because of its location. Perhaps hiring a car to get around would make a difference. The hotel itself was really great and the south pool bar staff, as mentioned were fantastic!
On pulling up outside the hotel the first impression is this is going to be a great holiday,at the reception the greeting is impressive after booking in the porters take your luggage to your room, then you notice the stairs if you are not strong on your feet there are lifts, apart from that the rooms are fantastic the view is excellent.Restaurants are numerous some you have to book 24hr in advance some you just turn up as the hotel is in three parts ,you have the opportunity of one restaurant being for adults only as is the pool that is age 16 and over when in the adults pool the sound from the main restaurant is minimal. The views around the resort are beautiful and the main beech is a short walk and is a public one where you can hire loungers and a safe there is a cafe by the beach this is a very large hotel so walking is good for you the bar staff in the adults bar are second to none that is Angie and Jorge to name bet a few,Its a very happy and joyful hotel nothing is to much for the staff to the management your staff are a credit to you and the company my wife Jacky and I would highly recommend this Hotel we will be back
Just back and had a great 10 days here with can't and friends....party of 16. Great rooms....maids do a brilliant job....good food as far as all inclusive goes....good facilities.....4 pools...kids clubs and usual entertainment....1 hour from airport with no stops. Only downside was the sheer size of the complex which had a knock on effect on everything.....queues for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even at reception for any queries which is frustrating on holiday...gurst relation staff were the friendliest but you can tell the overall hotel staff are so busy that no personal touch there at all as they have a job to do all day! Shame as this was probably a hotel that was pretty much perfect before it expanded....the road that separates the 3 areas is okay. Not a problem really...u just have to keep an eye on the kids...it didn't hamper my holiday. Plenty of choice with 3 areas to visit if you wish but be prepared for an early rise for the sun beds and a possible bun fight to sit where you want each day!!! Block C has it all but again very busy throughout the day. Did the booked restaurant there one night and nothing that different but it was a wee change from the rest. If you like a very busy complex, pools and restaurants this holiday is for you but don't go if you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet.! If you are looking for a night away from the hotel...Miles Restaurant in Calla Mallor is a good shout and very reasonable. Great kids outdoor play park up the road to finish your visit off there. Would go back to mallorca but unfortunately due to the size and overcrowded feeling I wouldn't return to this hotel.
Arrived home last night from 2 weeks in Cala Mandia Insotel. We're a family of 4 with 2 daughters aged 11 and 13. Only bad bit of the holiday....... having to come home! Hotel spotlessly clean, food perfect and staff all brilliant! What made our holiday amazing were the other families we became friends with and spent time with and the animation team........ In particular Cristina (teen club) - our daughters loved going to teen club which allowed us to pop down to South bar where Angie and the other staff were fantastic!!! The rest of the animation team also ensured you had plenty to do .... if you wanted to. They were all genuinely friendly and very hard working! We only left the hotel once to go to Porto Cristo which was lovely but would have happily stayed on site for the whole 2 weeks.
Well, where should I start? Very impressed with everything at the hotel, but my favourite is the South Bar, Restaurant and Pool. This area is only for adults aged 16 and over, so it's a very calm and relaxing area. The pool is beautiful, it has three built in massagers, a jacuzzi and very comfortable sun beds nearby. The bar has everything you need - a large variety of alcohol and very talented staff who make amazing cocktails. The restaurant is also great as the chefs make meals that taste and look beautiful. There is a different menu everyday so you never get bored. However, what makes this place so great is the staff at the South. They are all extremely friendly, sociable and helpful and never complain. Nothing you ask of them is too much and you are served at both the bar and restaurant in very good speed. I would like to thank everyone for making the experience so enjoyable, but in particular I would like to thank Andrea, Angie, Braulio, Javier and Jorge. I'm planning on going again next year, and hope to see them all there too!
Arriving very early on Saturday morning we were given a temporary room to sleep in (Block A) just until the cleaning staff could prepare our designated room for us later on in the morning. This room was more than adequate, and while not as pretty or new as the adults only suites, we would have been more than happy to stay in this room for longer if needed. When our designated room in the Adults Only section of Block A was ready for us, we had our luggage taken directly to the room by a porter and were even more pleased with the quality of the room than we had anticipated from looking at photographs; spotlessly clean, a nice view of the hotel and ocean in the distance and a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as compensation for the temporary stay in another room awaited us through the door. Food quality and variation were overall exceptional, our preference was the South Bar & Restaurant serving great quality set menu dinners in the evening, and snacks throughout the day. Alcoholic drinks available from the all inclusive bar were also exceptional; a decent list of cocktails available with much more available if you asked the bartenders. Please pass on my expressed gratitude to Jorge and Angie from the Adults only area, and someone I believe to be called Laurana from the reserved adult's section of the buffet area for providing an exceptional service throughout our stay. I would happily return to Cala Mandia just to be greeted again by these members of staff; the food and rooms would only be an added bonus. Will definitely consider returning to Cala Mandia next year for another week stay.
