Park Hotel - Malta4.0 out of 5.0

The images on the website for the hotel are misleading and other than there actually being a pool, there images of this area bear no relation to the reality. There is no sign of the sunbeds shown. The area was dirty and the sunbeds were mainly broken with dirty cushions. We had the same experience as the previous reviewer and they were at the hotel at the same time as us and complained to the Mercury rep immediately before us. The towels and bedding are old and worn and need replacing as well as a a larger supply as we were told that they could not supply a fresh towel as they were still being washed. The restaurant and quality of food was so disappointing that we ate out after the first night even though we were half board. Genreally the hotel is very run down and needs a complete refurbishment.
Do not book this hotel! We booked through a travel agent, two weeks before our trip, on business. We arrived to be informed our room was not free as the people staying there were in a hospital but they expected them to vacate the room in a few hours. Not trying to be unreasonable we agreed to return in a couple of hours. Then we were messed around for an hour, finally we were told they found a room in a hotel across the road. We decided not to stay in a room slightly worse than a local prison cell. We were offered another room in the park hotel, in was embarrassing to be called a hotel room. Finally they found us a room in a hotel several miles away this was 9 pm by now. On the way we found our own room in another hotel and never went back! The travel agent can fight them for the money that was paid. It is not a 4 star hotel, the carpets were disgusting, and they clearly overbooked and lied about it. Just don't stay there!!
As with the other reviews, we found this to be a very poor experience. We too had holes in sheets, towels missing and staff that to be called disinterested would be a compliment. One extra bonus for our stay in September was a huge piece of scaffold in the lobby dropping plaster and on one occasion a big piece of metal into the lobby. The manageress (Antonella Sammut) lied to us on at least one occasion though we believe other times regarding boarding pass / emails were also misrepresented. The rep for Mercury seemed to not fully take on board our complaints and said that very few people complained which is hard to believe and we actually spoke to other couples making complaints. Apparently our expectations were too high though we only had expectations from the website. I wish I had visited these reviews before going though it is hard to see how this hotel has 3/5 on trip adviser as all the reviews read are poor as is mine. How on earth can this call itself a four star hotel.
Check in took ages as they didn't seem to really know what they were doing. Room was basic, dirty tissue left on dressing table, hairs in the bath, mouldy sealant, towels looked dirty. The bed was okay although there was no mattress or pillow protectors. Pillows didn't smell very nice either. Don't think I will stay here again.
Four stars? What a joke! Not only had we checked in and paid but when we came back from dinner at midnight we were informed that they had given away our room. We found our luggage open down in the reception at the first night we arrived to Malta in the middle of the night. Absolutely no sympathy from the receptionist. A hotel that operates this way we won't even bother to contact the management. As it seems the people running it wants nothing more than shut down the place themselves.
Nice hotel with perfect location. When we arrived, nice welcome in beautiful reception, nice staff. Rooms are also really cool, but there are dirty walls and really bad balconies, we had view just to another building. Nice gym in the basement with a view to inside pool. There was really cool swimming pool on the roof with italian restaurant! :)
Alert! Alert! This hotel is not worth the stay. The lobby looked fine. But it went down hill from there. The elevator was dirty and rough when entering. Upon getting off the elevator the hall carpet needed replace 30 years ago. It had black soot. The wall, door ways, and doors were scratched and chipped. It appeared there was no pride in keeping things clean. When we entered the room, it was nasty, unkempt, had mold, old sheets, cracks, etc. At this we had a 10 minute family meeting and decided not stay. The manager tried to get us to stay in another room, but it was the same. We got the manager to give us a refund, but we called our bank to get a stop payment because 'monkey business' done by the manager in previous reviews. We noticed another payment the next day on our account and the manager said we were no shows. Evidently more than the physical building is in need of repair, it also needs new values instead of dishonesty. Go to the Preluna....we did.
Absolutely appalling! The stench and filth that met us as we stepped off the elevator was enough to alert me to the fact that we would not be spending one night in this hotel. As we entered the room it only got worse. The smell of urine and mold was so strong that it burned your throat. The staff at the front desk tried really hard to be surprised and dumbfounded that we refused to stay and demanded our money back. The one lady, I'm assuming was the manager, showed us another smaller room in hopes that we would stay. However the cigarette smell was so overpowering before she even opened the door to the room we knew it would not work either. She really didn't want to reimburse us and tried a third time to show us another room. At this point I got ugly and demanded a refund. This brings us to the financial side of things. A $202 charge was put on our credit card as a "hold" and then they charged another $211 as an actual charge. She finally agreed to refund our money, however never gave us a proper receipt to show proof of refund. As a result and after reading other reviews on this site, we made the decision to put a stop payment on both charges with our bank. Thankfully this was still possible and our bank worked with us. Long story short! DONT STAY HERE! IT'S TERRIBLE!
It's been a shock for us to discover that places like this still exist in 2017, recalling 4*!!!!! Maybe 4 falling *. We arrived yesterday evening and fortunately at this time we're already out of that rat hall. We deeply advice everyone not to make this huge mistake of booking there! There's not even one thing ok, the "staff" it's not rude, they just don't understand the meaning of education term, it's unbelievable dirty, that dirty that we worried for our health until the day after, but photos I'll post won't need any other words. You can't breath, because of the smell, the humidity, the carpets are more than dirty, the bed sheets require a big fire to be thrown into, the walls are full of mould, the elevator it's something you're not sure of getting out from, but I'll just let the photos speak for themselves. It's a genocide spending your holiday there, and we sincerely suspect that they pay big money if they're still opened. They should be more than ashamed for running a place like that!
The towels did smell funny but I think it was because there was no circulation in the hot, wet bathroom, rather than the towels actually being dirty. It wasn't a luxurious hotel but it did the job, and was in a great location. The sun loungers are really comfy!
