We stayed at Onyx apartments for 1 week in August. Allocated a 4th floor penthouse studio on arrival, room 404, we had hoped for an apartment with the bedroom seperate to the living area, the reception staff said such an apartment would be available after a few days. We moved to room 402 half way through the week. All the staff and cleaners were really polite and helpful, it was no trouble at all. Both rooms had everything needed for a self catering holiday, including a washing machine and dryer. Room 402 even had a dishwasher. The balcony's were large and sunny. they overlooked the garden at the front. It was a busy area night and day, but we weren't disturbed by the noise. The guests staying during our week appeared to be a mix of nationalities, families and younger and older couples, there were no noisy guests. I guess it just depends on the people staying at any given time, not all people are considerate of other guests. The bay area was just a 5 minute walk down the hill, a bit longer walking back up! We had a good value breakfast at Dick's bar, this place seemed to always be busy, night and day. We frequented the crows nest pub and further down the hill and round the corner, the Dubliner which had stunning views from upstairs, of the bay all lit up at night. There was a great little pub, the sun inn splendour, directly under the Onyx building also serving snacks. It opened at 10am and went on till the early hours, there was seating at the front and a beer garden at the back. Friendly staff, some live music and it showed the footy. This wasn't our first visit to St Julians so apart from catching the bus and spending the day in Valletta, we didn't do any other trips. My OH went scuba diving a few times, he enjoyed it. I went shopping around Sliema. After reading some of the reviews, we had been a little apprehensive, but we were happy with the apartments and staff. The cleaners don't come in as they would in a hotel and you have to leave your rubbish outside your room for collection, but this was all explained in the numerous books and appliance guides provided. We would happily stay here again.

Great location in the heart of everything it's clean except for mould growing in both showers. The staff are friendly and helpful they are only around during business hours. We arrived at midnight and there was a number to call and within 5 minutes a lady came to check us in. All in all I wouldn't hesitate using Onyx again.

Location(quiet), cleanliness, décor, atmosphere, value....all good. good bar area the host was super welcoming and friendly Great location, walking distance to the beach, so clean and comfy bed, big air conditioned rooms.

Checkin a bit of an issue late in the evening but eventually sorted. The apartments have everything you might need and are spacious - you are perfectly located for just about everything near by including bars, restaurants and night life. I'd stay again if I went to Malta.

This apartment has paper thin walls. You could hear everything and everyone coming home all hours of the morning. Doors slamming and the apartment corridors were never cleaned along with the rooms. The location was close to night clubs and some went till 3am so there was no way of sleeping.

Decided to stay at this Apartment due to good location. Arrived late to Apartment approx 11pm. Duty manager had to be called (telephone number by the entrance) to let us into the building and get us checked in. No deposit taken only passport for all guests checked. Both requested/booked Studio Apartments provided. Advised that underground car park was full and a space may become available following morning. Following morning approached the guy at reception and enquired politely about the underground parking spot. The receptionist advised that parking was not included in booking and costs approx 9 euros per day. He began raising his voice and saying that we are being demanding and telling him to provide us with free parking. The receptionist eventually calmed down and lowered his voice. The following day we returned to the hotel after spending the day out sightseeing and another male receptionist stopped us at the entrance and asked if we are staying in room 4** and 1** - now this receptionist started demanding the credit card that the booking was made with. The tone of his voice came across rude and loud. We told him that the booking was already paid for and he should have the details on the system. He said he needed to physically check the credit card. We told him unfortunately that the credit card was in the UK - he did not seem very happy about this and did not seem to want to suggest a way around this. We asked if a photocopy via email would be acceptable or a picture of the card. He said no - eventually the receptionist said that we would need to pay using another card that we had in our possession and the amount paid via the credit card would be refunded. We then asked him why he was so abrupt with us when we walked into the reception area. He didn't respond and said he no longer needs to talk to us. We asked him if he/his colleague is racist or has something against coloured people - he seemed to get angry and said that he is not racist and neither is Malta. We had to tell him not to talk to us in this loud rude angry manner and to be polite as we were polite with him. We also made him aware that this should have been completed as part of the initial check-in process - as no deposit was taken from us for the booking. The rooms were clean when we arrived however during our stay the rooms were not cleaned, towels were not replaced, tea, coffee and sugar not replenished. Had to request towel from a cleaner that was cleaning the next door room. On the 3rd night of our stay there was a power cut on the 4th floor of the building and emergency lighting came on. All electrical goods stopped working and hot water supply was stopped due to a power cut. After spending 30mins in darkness waiting for electricity to come back we decided to locate the duty manager to request that the electricity be restored as we were waiting to get ready for evening out. Duty manager said that the electricity will be back up shortly however no apology made for the inconvenience caused. At times during the day the reception is not manned - suspect this is due to lack of staff. It’s a shame that the apartment was not maintained and cleaned during our stay as this would have made our stay pleasant. Also disappointed with the poor level of customer service and inconsistencies with check-in at Onyx Apartments.

The location of Onyx Apartments could not be any more central and I was very comfortable in my room. It was perfect for 1/2 people with a large bed, flat screen TV, a mini fridge and large bathroom with great walk in shower. The bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept on! The Reception Desk is only manned until about 6pm so if you are arriving after that, you have to call the Duty Manager to let you in. Just make sure you have credit/international minutes on your phone! I unfortunately didn't, but thankfully there was a resident leaving that let me in and then the Duty Manager appeared to check me in. The only slight downside was that my room looked onto an internal courtyard and so anyone walking down the corridor would have been able to see right into my room. That meant I had to have the curtains closed all the time so there was no natural light coming into the room. Having said that, however, for the location, the comfort and the price, it was a very good stay and I would recommend Onyx Apartments to anyone visiting Malta.

Quite disappointed with the small room we were given. The photos on here make the room appear much nicer and larger than what it was. We were given a room which was adjoining someone else's apartment, the adjoining door was locked however it felt very strange to feel like you were sharing with someone else. Walls were very thin as you could hear everything going on next door which was very noisy. Also construction work started very early in the morning. At least The man on reception was very nice.

WE've stayed in the Onyx apartments last September. The location is perfect few step away from the centre where the movida is. These apartments are very clean and new and it offered a nice balcony a AC unit in each room. there is only one problem, parking. The parking spaces are always full and trust me its a nightmare to find a space during the weekend. Overall very nice size rooms and great kitchen/living room. I would stay there again for sure.

We stayed here for a wee recently. The location of the apartments is great with the sightseeing bus stop across the road, the local bus stops beside them and a decent supermarket around the corner. We booked a studio for 2 but were given a 2 bed, the 2nd bedroom was locked which i really didnt see the need for. The apartment is big but i cant call it luxury, it could be but its not there yet. The sitting room, kitchen is a large room with a small balcony, the 2 chairs are lonely without a table. Some light bulbs gone in the sitting room. One bedroom is ensuite, the bedroom has no windows making it dark but i would prefer a window. The mattress was pretty awful and the towels are shabby, walls need a bit of paint, when you come out of the lift on the first floor the open space needs ro be cleaned up, need more hangers, these are easy things to fix but attention to detail is needed if the apartments are ro be called luxury. My biggest issue is the noise, we were woken most nights about 3 when people came in, they were only talking but the sound really travels, you can also hear furniture etc being moved upstairs and there was construction going on. So maybe ask for an apartment on the top floor and
