Were quite impressed with this hotel on the whole, great location right on the sea, with fabulous views across to St Pauls Island, we paid a little extra for sea view, well worth it.We were b/b, which was ok, everything you could want - bacon, eggs etc., or continental and plenty of it. We did try an evening meal one night, but were not impressed for 16E per person, there are plenty of good eateries around at reasonable prices. The Hotel is a bit outdated, that we thought added to its charm, the staff are lovely, and could not have served us better, the whole hotel is very clean. There is a bus stop a few yards from the hotel, where you could get a bus into Bugibba, and from there to most parts of the Island for a few euros or buy a runaround ticket for a week for about 20euros.- a trip to Valletta is a must, and would take about half an hour, also Mosta Dome around the same time -spectacular. We would certainly return to the Gilleiru in the future mainly because of the location , cleanliness , and friendly staff.
We went for a quick week away and the hotel was ideal for us. Jusy far enough away from the bars but not too far to walk into town. The views from our hotel room were wonderful. The only downside is the sun loungers need updating.
The Gillieru is a wonderful place situated right on St. Paul's Bay. It's a little bit quirky but everyone at the hotel are brilliant. We were on bed and breakfast basis, the breakfast was good everything you'd want from continental to full English. Would highly recommend a visit.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel rooms were a little tired, it looks as if they're half way doing them up as the bathroom was nice and modern. Would've been better if there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room as we needed the kettle to make up baby formula. They did provide us with one when we asked at reception. The views were great (we had a sea view room) and the location was lovely and quiet! But still close enough to walk into buggiba in a few minutes. Lovely staff and a good breakfast.
Just got back from a weeks holiday. The location is stunning with views over the bay. It was not far from shops, bars and restaurants. The room we had, 315, had a sea view with balcony and the bed was comfy. Room was clean and ample for what we needed. Breakfast was good too. The hotel could do with a lick of paint and some tlc. Wifi in rooms would help too. New pool furniture would be great and a lot more could be done with the roof top terrace - ie, put some great chill out furniture up there, a small bar for cocktails or beer and wine etc. Enjoyed our stay but hope they make changes for next year
My wife and I stayed at the Gillieru Harbour Hotel at the beginning of November 2016 for 11 nights. The hotel is brilliantly located with stunning views over the bay - but not all rooms have a sea view - it is definitely worth the additional cost to get a sea view. The hotel is located in a quiet area where you can walk to cafes and eating places - both very close to the hotel or a short 10 mins walk away. We didn't stay half board - so cant comment on the evening meal but going by the breakfast quality we wouldn't expect the food to be great. There are a lot of very good eating places around at reasonable cost - so we preferred the variety and flexibility of eating out. The transport links to the buses (no trains on Malta) is also very good from the hotel. The staff were generally helpful and we would particularly say the evening receptionist was very helpful and chatty and the cleaner on our floor (4th Floor) was very nice indeed and efficient. The breakfast staff were also helpful and quick to assist. We would return to the hotel again - mainly because of its location and its a reasonable costs, it is not a 4 star hotel - by any stretch of the imagination!! It is clean and tidy but if you choose to stay here don't expect 4 star treatment or quality! We took the view that ...for the price we were paying ...we were getting a well located clean hotel with great views - but basic quality. Things to prepare you for the stay - 1) The hotel lounge is comfortable but furniture is worn in places. 2) free wifi in the hotel lounge which worked fine for what we required it for - general e mailing and googling. 3) The breakfast is ok - its not outstanding - but its adequate - tinned fruit/ cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs etc) and very basic cereals etc You shouldn't leave hungry! Look out for the industrial plug fitting next to the toaster - it looks like something more appropriate for an industrial factory! The toaster was fine however! 4) Pool is well located clean and pool looks really nice (didnt jump in - too cold for the time we were staying!) - but the sun lounge covers / cushions are in a very bad state - ripped stained etc They need renewing. 5) Our sea view room 4th Floor - was fine it had enough room with small balcony (and great views) with wet room shower not great pressure on the shower (dont expect a power shower more like a very moderate dribble!) The bed had no mattress cover and the sheets were quite tight to fit over the bed - so usually you woke with the mattress exposed. The sheets and towels are not great quality at all - don't expect Egyptian cotton - just very basic quality. The towels were quite small as well. The room did have a small fridge however and that was great to keep bottles / tins etc cold. So overall its a basic hotel - clean tidy with great location and sea views - you cant expect 4 star service and facilities when you are not paying for them - and this is not a 4 star hotel - but if we were return to Malta we would consider returning. Top Tips - Buy a 7 day 21 euro card for buses - so much easier Go to Con Gusto Gelato Naturale - in Bugibba Bay - a small ice cream cafe etc The ice cream and yogurt and coffee are fantastic - worth returning to Malta to just go there again! Visit the west of the island - Dingli Cliffs - amazing views and much quieter! Take time around Velletta - great city to explore.
first thing i want to warn you about is your room safe. make sure when you pay the 15 euros a week you ask for a receipt and don't lose it.i paid my 15 euros a week when I arrived then when I was booking out the receptionist insisted that because it wasn't showing on her computer, without a receipt I would have to pay again. the hotel itself in our opinion is about 30 years out of date. we booked bed and breakfast ,the breakfast was English and not to a great standard .the staff in general were friendly .the sunbeds by the pool were well past there sell by date.definately wouldn't book this hotel again so beware you have been warned.
We were a bit worried after seeing some bad reviews on here... but we couldn't fault it! We did pay extra for a seaview room with a balcony, s I would recommend this. The rooms were big and clean and the view from the balcony was incredible! All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The pool and pool bar were nice and breakfast every morning was good. it was the same everyday, but there was a good selection of hot and cold food - we certainly never went hungry! Only 2 things that I would comment on: the lifts are a bit wobbly and can be a bit manic first thing in the mornings and our bed was the squeakiest bed EVER!! It is certainly a quiet hotel, but that it what we were after. We would recommend and we would stay there again.
We stayed here for 2 weeks from 28thSeptember to 11th October had a great time made worth while paying extra for a sea view, Mary-rose was very helpful and always had a smile, the views from the hotel where lovely, the area of St Paul's bay is a nice area not too busy you have a nice walk into bugibba which has lots of places to eat and shop and your not to far from the National aquarium and the Malta classic car museum
The whole lack of customer satisfaction sadly let this hotel down. It's very run down but clean and in a great location away from the main promenade. But I have to get this into perspective - it was cheaper than a U.K. B and B! Treat it as a place to sleep and not a hotel for that feel good factor and you won't be disappointed. Two great restaurants within a stones throw - Tarragon and Di Rosa.
