Lovely room with sea view. Comfortable balcony, large bed (2 singles put together). Good bathroom with enough storage space. Breakfast adequate and certainly OK for the price. Overall, good price:quality ratio.
I recently stayed at this hotel and was impressed with the hotel itself and the staff. Mary Rose on reception was very welcoming and was excellent when I had a fall. She arranged for the Doctor to call and when I went to hospital she gave us reassurance that it was a good hospital with English speaking staff. The waiting on staff were welcoming as we're all the cleaners. The owners of the hotel should be very proud of their staff.
We had a lovely stay, it’s a nice location and quieter than buggiba area so nice for couples or families. Rooms were always clean but no air con in the foyer which was uncomfortable in the August heat. If we were returning I would stay again however, overall we had a good time here and Malta is just beautiful.
Basic hotel which really needs updating as it's very 1970s. Travellers expect more even in a budget priced hotel. Beds were not comfortable and bedding and pillows need replacing . Television was not working and we informed reception staff and this was fixed when we got back to our room on the evening. Pool area is uninspiring and they need new sun beds and a pool bar. Food was average with poor choice. The saving grace are the views which are fabulous if you are lucky enough to get a sea view. This hotel could be so much better it needs money spending on it and training for staff.
Our relatives stayed here, whilst we were staying nearby. We used the restarant several times. The hotel has a very favoured location, because of the views. Really lovely. Their rooms were fine and were what you would expect. The problem we found was the variable quality of the food, if you were on half board. We ate with our relatives and found some of the food very poor, yet at other times very good. Breakfast was reported to us as adequate; the problems occurred in the evenings. Raymond at the bar was lovely and could not do enough. Generally the staff were very friendly. One lady, seemingly in charge of the restaurant, was rather fierce.
My husband and I recently stayed for 14 nights at this hotel. This is not your typical 3 star hotel accommodation but I can say for sure it has 5 star views and a 5 star receptionist(Marie Rose). The hotel rooms are indeed in great need of a refurbishment, the beds are uncomfortable and some of the furniture is dated. However, the rooms were cleaned daily (apart from the balcony area, which we cleaned ourselves), the air con in the room never failed us and the mini fridge was an great bonus to store drinks when its 38 degrees outside. We had bed and breakfast and can honestly say their was always something tasty to eat on a morning and the breakfast staff are helpful and polite. The negatives are the bar was never open once during our stay, the pool are is appalling and many of the sunbeds are broken and the cushions have seen better days, bordering on a health and safety issue. There is no air con in reception seating areas, in 37 degree heat it can be stifling. The positives are, the 5 star view from all areas of this hotel, the pool bar is cheap, serves decent bar snacks, and the staff are always cheerful and helpful. The staff are the real positives about this hotel, its a shame the hotel itself has been neglected and i'm sure it wouldn't take much to bring this hotel back up to its 3 star or maybe 4 star rating. Marie Rose is this hotels saving grace, she is warm, extremely helpful, funny and polite, a great asset to the running of this hotel. However, I have to say I would not stay at this particular hotel again and that's a great shame for the location of this hotel is prime and the views are to die for. I do hope this hotel get the attention it needs and returns to the magnificent hotel it once was. If however you are looking for a place to stay with no frills then its an ok place to stay.
We had a fantastic time here earlier this month ,,I cannot fault the hotel in anyway .OK its not the Hilton but its clean ,tidy ,wonderfully situated with great views over the st Paul islands ,harbour and seafront ( if you lucky enough to have a sea view ) .The staff are soo helpful and friendly ,special mentions to Marie Rose and Carlos ..The new owner is very friendly and I can only wish her the best of luck with the planned changes .
This is a very good place to stay if like us you like a quiet area which has beautiful views from your balcony, the restaurant and the breakfast room, an excellent swimming pool area, is right on the sea and has a good restaurant. The staff at the Gillieru are helpful and friendly, our room was spotlessly clean, towels were changed every day and sheets often. The bathroom had a modern walk in shower/ wet room. The pretty bar is lit with candles at night and is very atmospheric, and very well stocked.. Also there is a TV which shows football if you like it! ( not intrusive.)The hotel is in a pretty square opposite the St Paul's Shipwreck church. Thank you to Mary Rose, the excellent receptionist (day time) and to the excellent waiters in the restaurant, particularly Ray who took such good care of us. We didn't have half board as we like to be out without time constraints in Malta, but we ate several times in the restaurant which is known for it's fresh fish, and our meals were top quality with a wide choice of wines to choose. We would definitely like to return.
A good value hotel which is slightly run down but still worth a visit. Unfortunately the accommodation wasn't ready and another room was offered for the night. The excuse given was that the electrics were faulty. Unfortunately room 099 was extremely noisy all through the night due to external machinery and also next to the maids area which had an early start. So no sleep that night. Unfortunately I also heard excuses for rooms not being ready on 2 other occasions so assume they had overbooked. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The public areas were tatty but not dirty. Would i return? Yes.
This is our third stay here and are booking again next year. Loverly hotel situated on the bay with fabulous views. And not far to walk for buggiba. Rooms good third of fourth floors always good. Bus stop outside of hotel breakfast good . Staff are happy to help we love Rosa!!
