Stayed at the Playa Esperanza for a long weekend on half board basis, through it was a good, solid hotel. Food was good, well organised (although I would recommend not being there bang on opening times as it is very busy - leave it 30 mins and then go), swimming pools were clean and you can walk straight onto the beach. For what we wanted, it was perfect. There's a supermarket on site and one opposite, not much really within walking distance - just other hotels, so recommend getting a car. All in all, was good for what we wanted from the break.
Stayed in a Family room (suite). Room was nice, bright and spacious. Had some sea view. But... nothing else is nice in this hotel. First of all, my request for a higher floor I sent by email two weeks before the arrival was acknowledged but totally ignored at check in. When we arrived to the hotel, no one helped us with the bags and reception staff was really unfriendly. Second of all there are so many strange rules in the hotel. We were given a specific timing for dinner without even been asked what our preferences were. Table number (!) was also given to us later on at the restaurant and we had to sit at that particular table during all our stay. Breakfasts and especially dinners were really busy with people queuing for food which wasn't tasty. Restaurant staff was ok but one waitress shouted at me in Spanish looking at her watch, when I arrived for breakfast at 10am (breakfast closes at 10:30). Sorry but I was on holidays and had no intention to wake up at 6am. More upsetting news - there is no drinking water, no tea or coffee, no kettle, no iron or ironing board in the room. Safe deposit box is there but you have to pay to use it. You would need to pay to use tennis courts. Beach towels and sun beds at the beach are for rent, too. Towel would cost you €15 deposit and you have to keep the ticket to get your money back. Iron would cost €8 per day + €10 deposit and you won't even get an ironing board with it. Evening entertainment was loud and absolutely not interesting but other hotel guests seemed to like it so it was impossible to get a table outside after dinner. Another thing is that 90% of hotel guests are Germans. So don't expect to have a conversation with someone by the pool or at dinner. My daughter couldn't play with other kids because they didn't speak any English. And hotel staff speaks either Spanish or German. So think twice before booking this hotel, it is not what it looks like on the pictures. And please don't forget any clothes at the pool, you will never get it back. I left my denim shorts on the sun bed by the pool, had to ask reception, bar staff and lifeguards for it but it was nowhere to be found. Must have been taken by other hotel guests. Overall it was quite a disappointing stay considering amount of money paid for it.
Still a week to go at this Hotel and My excitement about the holiday at this place has gone so much down. We have a constant feeling of being unwelcome by the staff (we are two families) and it seems like we are all the time guilty of being here. The staff members are unpleasant (not all, but most) and we are trying to avoid ANY questions. Today was refused to take food to go for a child from a pool bar without a reason, tried to ask why but the gentlemen kept saying 'no'. Yesterday were refused to move a sun umbrella at the breakfast, which nobody else was using. So far the feeling the staff created is unwelcome/unfriendly. Too sad, as the location is amazing.
Hotel is located right next to a clean sandy beach with beautifully warm water. Room had great views of the bay with a nice balcony. Friendly staff, very varied and tasty restaurant food. 3 pools, one pleasantly large. The 11km wetlands right next door were fantastic for birdwatching, remember the insect repellent to avoid bites! Very fun watersport activities available on the beach - wind surfing, kite surfing, stand up boarding, sailing. Good and varied evening hotel entertainment acts and music. Some helpful instructions - on arrival hire the room safe immediately, this isn't included in the price. You will be handed a leaflet allocating you a restaurant table, remember to take this down to dinner the first time. Queue on the right to register for your table the first time. You will also need to pay to hire the umbrellas and beach chairs on the beach (14 euros per day) but not for the ones on the hotel grounds. You can also hire a safe on the beach umbrella!
I absolutely loved this hotel, I live on the island and went for a couple of days to celebrate my anniversary and was extremely pleased all round. The rooms were bright, modern and airy and with a fabulous sea view. The grounds very pretty and lush green gardens and plenty of space oif you wanted a quiet area. Sunbeds were plentiful and the pools pristine. The food at the pool bar was fantastic & a great price and the drinks measures very generous. All this with a fabulous beach front posoition on perhaps the best beach on the island. Staff were very friendly and helpful and i really could not fault it. I was only there for a short break but didnt even leave the hotel once it was absolutely fabulous and I very much hope to come back.
All was average until dinner time, on entry the buffet food hall for the evening meal I was stopped at the entrance by a member of staff and told no dress shorts allowed despite the fact it was 26 degrees on a barmy summers evening and had no prior notification. I explained I had only packed shorts as I thought I was in Mallorca, still the staff refused to let me in to the food hall, (it was not a restaurant) so left the food hall very upset and feeling angry. I then realised I did have a pair of long trousers… my lounge pants (pajama bottoms) in a bright red, black & white check pattern, I dually put them on and returned to the food hall “ that’s better” said the lady at the door and let me in. So if you want to feel humiliated and eat your evening meal in your pajamas with other guests and waiters sniggering, this is the hotel for you. Next time, I’m going to pack a clowns outfit!
This hotel suited us perfectly. Reading past reviews helped a lot, as that was the only way we knew we could hire a kettle, and that would be the only negative thing about this hotel - that tea making equipment is not standard. The location is ideal with direct access on to a beautifully clean sandy beach, which seemed almost exclusively for use by the hotel guests although open to the public. It is less busy in this part of the beach compared to Alcudia a few miles away. There are plenty of shops and restaurants over the road, and places to hire cars and bicycles. The restaurant was amazing. You have to choose an early or late sitting for the duration of your stay with a set table for evening meals, which means you get to know the staff well through out the week. When we went on a coach trip and were late back it was no trouble for us to attend the late sitting for that day, but we had informed them the night before. The choice of food seemed vast and it would be difficult not to find something for even the fussiest eaters to enjoy. Some of the buffet main meals are prepared in front of you. My husband says the rib eye steak was better than many he has eaten in Britain. You have to remember to leave room for dessert. You just can't help trying a small portion of everything and I usually ended up with a dinner plate full of desserts- absolutely delicious. The children really enjoyed the chocolate fountain, although I think a lot of the adults did too. Everything is well presented and continually topped up. Staff were always helpful, although not all them could speak English, but would quickly go to fetch someone who could. The grounds are spacious with lots of sun loungers, so there never seemed to be an issue finding one, although the shadey spots get taken quickly. A spot near the beach access and near one of the three pools was ideal, as there was then no need to hire a lounger on the beach. The side sea view room was perfect. There is no real need to pay more for a full sea view, as you had a good view of the sea and mountains. Overall would highly recommend this hotel.
With the prospect of being stranded in Port D'Alcudia for three days due to a daughter unable to fly my mindset was mildly harassed as I checked into the Esperanza. It had come recommended by my parents who had stayed here a mere twenty years ago so I really wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was an immaculately clean hotel, room and restaurant with a choice of three crystal clear swimming pools and a proliferation of smiling and helpful staff from the cleaners to the lifeguards. The location is excellent - being right on the beach and away from the noisier town centre but there are still plenty of shops within easy walking distance as well as car rental outlets, excursion agents etc. The grounds are covered in sun beds so we never had to search for one and there are handy changing cabins and day beds for everyone to find some shade under the palm trees. My daughter was gutted that she was unable to use the pools (due to her ear infection) but happily three stray cats in the hotel garden were extremely pleased to have their tummies tickled in the sunshine which went some way to compensate. Our room, while not large was ample for what we needed. The thermostat was simple to use allowing the temperature to be adjusted, black out curtains kept out the light as well as the heat and even though we were on the street side of the hotel we couldn't hear a thing when the balcony doors were closed. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of soaps, shampoos etc to use in the power shower. We opted for the second sitting in the huge dining room and initially were quite taken aback by the sheer number of people wandering around with plates but a quick explanation from the smiling restaurant manager soon had us feeling at ease as we hoovered our way through a vast selection of magnificently fresh, good quality, tasty food. Each night had a theme and we were able to try a wide variety of different foods without fear of ordering something we didn't like. The breakfast bar stood out as simply outstanding with surely a choice for everyone from fresh cheeses to meats to granola to yoghurt to cooked breakfast, fruits and pastries. Our favourite was the hot chocolate for dipping croissants into. Mmmm mmmm. Strangely, we had little need for lunch! The final bonus was the evening entertainment. The flamenco dancers and their musicians with the see through violins were a great hit. I am still flabbergasted at the number of costume changes they included to complement their dancing skill. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a four star holiday in the Port D'Alcudia area without hesitation.
We stayed half board for week in May. After leaving our home a 0330 for a 0600 flight we arrived at the hotel at 1200 only to be told that our room would not be ready until 1400 - the 'official' earliest check-in time: so two hours of just hanging around. The staff that we encountered were always very friendly and eager to help. The hotel is quite large, modern style and very clean - it may just have been redecorated - and the grounds are massive: the hotel, a building of suites and one of apartments, all owned by the same hotel chain, share the same site. Loungers are scattered all over the hotel grounds and there was never an trouble finding a lounger, parasol or shady trees - even the pool areas were never particulary busy. Meals are very good with a wide range of good quality food for both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is 0800 to 1030 and there are two sittings for dinner: 1800-1930 and 2000-2130; we were given a choice and chose the latter. If you arrive after the initial 15 minute stampede when the dining room doors first open then the atmosphere in the dining room is quite relaxed. Be aware that on your first visit for dinner you will have to queue to be allocated a table at which to sit for the duration of your stay: no one told us about this and we just sat at a vacant table, only to be confronted by two very surprised, but very courteous Dutch guests who explained that we were sitting at their table. Drinks are not cheap but measures of wines and spirits can be quite large. Rooms were a good size, bright and airy and cleaned daily, with a daily change of towels and linen too. The on-site wellness centre and spa is worth a visit - a range of facilities and treatments and reasonable value for money. There is direct access to Playa de Muro beach from the hotel grounds. There are a range of cafes, bars and resturants within easy walking distance of the hotel and buses to either Ca'n Picafort or Alcudia stop outside the hotel and cost about 1.55 Euros per person each way. Evening entertainment was varied and standards were generally high. Overall a very nice hotel and one which we'd be happy to visit again.
Generally a very nice hotel. Facilities - good and as advertised. Clean and pleasant decor. However - as a 4 star hotel I feel it does not have the usual level of staff friendliness, customer service etc you'd expect. Also, for english speaking guests be aware it is German run and that seems to be main language spoken. I arrived at exactly 9-30pm - the official finishing time for dinner, although there was still hot food out and lots of guests eating. I was very tired and just wanted a quick bite and to go to bed. However, I was told I was not allowed and must wait till 10pm when a cold dinner (salad) is provided for late guests. No facilities for hot drinks in room. Kettle hire is €12/week, but note this is just for a kettle which is dumped on you on check in. They will not help you out with cups, tea coffee etc. I found some staff to be abrupt and unfriendly, unhelpful. E.g I went to take my bike back to my room (I had not been told this is not allowed and there are no signs etc) and two reception staff simultaneously shouted at me across the busy reception area. Then I was given snappy directions to the bike tent, which I didn't know about, but not told I needed a key, so had to return once I'd found it. I tried to enter the spa at 7-40pm, and the attendant told me it closed in 5 minutes. I replied that I thought it was at 8, as in the info. She let me in eventually but was quite rude about it and turned off all the lights at 7-58pm when I was still changing. It seems that some guests are generally lacking in manners too - e.g I had a lift door closed in my face, and was snarled at when I failed to speak German (I cannot). A large naked man barged into the spa shower by the sauna when I was clearly just on my way into it, and proceeded to occupy it for an expended period of time. Further I was given wrong info by staff on 2 occasions (about local services). I tried to enquire about booking trips and excursions but the staff member was so unhelpful and unfriendly that I gave up and did my own organisation. Tried a yoga class on a rainy day, and it was in a tiny freezing outdoor hut and was the worst yoga session I've ever been to. Apart from all that the hotel has great facilities and location. Also the food is generally good.
