Hotel Ilusion Calma

The hotel Calma feels a bit like gods waiting room. As a youngish family we were surprised that there were not many people below the age of 60, however this is not to say that the hotel was run down - on the contrary I felt that it was clean and hospitable in the most part. As an all inclusive guest we were made to feel like second class citizens as other guests who were paying for their drinks always took priority and were afforded the luxury of a glass instead of cheap plastic cups. I did ask for a glass on several occasions but was refused. The last straw for myself was when we were finishing our last drinks in the lounge area and the staff turned all of the lights off so we couldn't see. This was done without any mention that they were going to do so. I challenged the bar staff on this, and for a man who had been conversing with me in English all night to turn around and say "no speak English" felt rather rude. The food is extremely basic and to be honest not very good - if you are a vegetarian then don't bother as my wife survived on chips and cheese for most of the time as they even put meat in the salad. Breakfast consisted of an egg type Blamonge type thing and only on occasion did I see a fried egg, bacon or sausage. Battered cauliflower and cake are not my idea of good breakfast ingredients. The salami and pate with baguette was very good, however if the hotel is busy then it is a bit of a struggle to get around the dining hall - I must admit that we ended up eating out a few times. The hotel does have spa facilities and myself and my son did spend many a relaxing hour in the jacuzzi and sauna. You do need to ask for them to be turned on in the morning - but the staff are happy to do this. The pool is clean, albeit not very big- however even though the hotel was bust, the pool was not so it was a nice relaxing space. The Room we were in was both of a good size and clean - it was cleaned and turned down every day. All in all I would say that if I was to come back to Mallorca I would not stay all inclusive at this hotel - however I might stay self catering.

Booked this 2 days in advance for a last minute break as it was a great price for half board and ticked all the boxes. Staff were really friendly and helpful, let me leave bags there all day and use the pool on the last day after I'd checked out. Rooms were basic but very clean and the bed was very comfortable - lots of towels and free toiletries like shampoo etc. The food was great considering this is a 3 star, was just as good as many 4 stars I've stayed in all-inclusive. Lots of choice and variety, the fresh salad and fruit were exceptional and we had delicious minute steaks on the Friday night - out of this world (I had about 6!!). Location was great, 5 min walk from the beach, lots of bars and restaurants in the area, bus just around the corner running every 10 mins to Palma city (1.50 single) and also the airport (5.00 - just around the corner! Not sure how that works). Taxi was 15E from the airport even though it's a 5 minute drive - minimum fare I think - so if you're on your own like I was definitely get the bus. My only negative point was that you only have quite small windows in which to eat - i.e. 2 and a half hours but they start packing away over half an hour before the advertised meal end time which was frustrating, especially given that the hotel was packed - I could maybe understand if it had been very quiet. Otherwise can't fault the place - a bargain for the price!

Couldn't fault the accommodation or staff. Very friendly bar/restaurant staff. Receptionist extremely helpful as our booking was not logged. Still arranged a room for us until we could contact booking company as was closed and arrived very late evening due to flight delays. Was half board, food could be hit and miss, but overall always plenty there. Would recommend BB/half board, not sure regarding all inclusive regarding food but if you like a drink would be worth it. Plus if you don't mind eating out now and again there's plenty of wonderful restaurants, tapas bars and other cultural restaurants to choose from and all great prices.

Very basic hotel, not the best food, lots of old people but clean and an amazing location-5 minutes to the lovely beach and great night life city centre so if you are looking for a cheap holiday with lots of things to do around the area it's a perfect choice!

If you don't care about luxury rooms this hotel is perfect. It is true that there were many old people but that didn't bothered me. The resort is cheep and for people who wish to relax. If you are looking for fun, go in Magaluf. The food wasn't very tasty but it was acceptable. Calma is a good choice If you are looking for a cheap relaxing holiday.

In arrival the staff was not very helpful, the hotel was noisy and this hotel is for older people. Food did not taste very good, wifi is only in reception, no car parking, I had only on plug in bathroom and had to charge phone and camera in bathroom.

Horrible hotel. I advise you not to waste time and money on it. Poor soundproofing in the room which make it difficult to sleep and old furniture. Position yourself near the Club de Mar for the same price.

Finally got the the original hotel I had booked (hotel marbel) after a long flight only to be told by the rudest receptionist that 'We are overbooked', although I had already booked and paid months before! We got sent to hotel calma instead which apparently is a chain of theirs. Its mainly for the older generation and so for me and my friend (22 and 25) this was not our idea of fun. I must say this hotel had the worst food I've had! Never hot, always cold and poor choice selection. What ever was left the day before was just reused the next day. Although the hotel drinks are cheap the cocktails are awful, I couldn't drink them as it was too strong. Very noisy at night as on a main road and the walls are thin so we could hear every little step and word that was said by the people next door. Overall my worst hotel stay I've had and I won't be coming back. (I wouldn't stay in Can Pastilla again, you are best looking for hotels in Palma)

My husband & I got a cheap deal for a fortnight all inclusive at the Hotel Calma earlier this month . Very clean hotel , the room was spotless along with the communal parts . We had a refurbished room on the 3rd floor which we were very pleased with , though there was a tiny drawer & the cupboard space was behind the door so difficult access & we therefore lived out of our suitcases . The shower was amazing & always plenty of hot water .The neighbours were either very quiet or the rooms are well sound proofed . Great lighting above each side of the bed for reading . The mattress & pillows comfortable .Ask for the television command at the reception if you want to watch TV .There is a safe (payable). The view from our room was a bit disappointing but there's not much the hotel can do about that .We left our balcony doors open every day for fresh air but with the dogs barking & the planes taking off / landing it was noisy & there was a smell of frying fish from the nearby restaurant so we closed the doors when we were in the room . SITUATION OF HOTEL : is great as it's near to the beach , shops ,bus stops ,bars & restaurants . There is a chemist nearby as well as a Spar supermarket for bottled water , toiletries etc. The beach is very clean & we walked along the promenade most mornings which was very enjoyable, looking in shops & bars along the way . The bus numbers 15 & 25 to Arenal / Palma are regular & only €1.50 per person .Take note of the bus stop number where you get on so you know where to get off on your return journey . If you want to visit the historic old part of Palma get off at la Place de la Reina or if you want to take another bus or train onward from Pama then get off at Place de L'Espagne . There is a great market at nearby Arenal every Thursday , one at Can Pastilla on Tuesdays .Public telephone is just outside the hotel & takes €uros . There is also a little train which is fun for €4.50 each . RESTAURANT Breakfast 8h - 10h Lunch 13h - 15h Dinner 19.30h - 21.30h The restaurant can be very busy & people queue up outside waiting for opening time .At breakfast there is a rush to the coffee machines & you either have to wait in line or get your hot drink later when its died down a bit . A third coffee machine would not go amiss . There is the usual choice of bread , jams , cereals , croissants , hams , cheese , eggs & fruit . The cooked breakfast includes bacon , tomatoes , tinned mushrooms , baked beans etc LUNCH & DINNER I mostly ate salad & fruit but I did especially enjoy the fish soup & the kidneys with red pepper sauce which were my memorable dishes . The salad dressing with garlic , butter & parsley is also worthy of a mention . A griddle of either meat or fish along with soup ,salads ,several choices of ready cooked dishes , olives , cheeses , patés ,pickles , fruits & desserts . Sunday lunch was a hamburger & or fried egg on the griddle . Friday dinner was paella . There were often pizzas , pies , spaghetti choices . Not a lot of choice for vegetarians .If you want to try the creamy cakes you'll have to be like the other guests & serve yourself before choosing your main meal . I did manage to get a nice photo of them however .The restaurant will do you a packed lunch if you intend to be out all day & you give them 24 hours notice . The wine is very good along with the waiting staff who we found very attentive & professional . THE BAR 11h- 23h Snacks 11h-13h & 15h- 18h Pleasant , friendly bar staff who spoke all languages & made sure they served customers in turn . I'd read about the plastic goblets & had an idea that I could either charm or tip^my way into a real glass but unfortunately they only have a handful of real glasses on the shelves & they are reserved for "paying" customers .Those who handed over cash for their drinks were entitled to a slice of lemon & real glasses which they were allowed to take to the pool area . I would be happy to pay extra ( like the €25 tourist tax ) in order to enjoy drinking out of a real glass . The plastic goblets let the hotel down . ENTERTAINMENT:- Starts at 9.30 & consists of line dancing , disco , bingo , live music , magic show & Flamenco on a Friday .There are 2 French animators who organise keep fit , darts & other games for those who want it . There is a ping pong table , billiards , free WiFi & a bookcase with books of all languages to borrow . POOL The outside swimming pool is open from 10h - 20h . In winter months there's a heated swimming pool & a gym downstairs 11 h - 19 h .There is also jacuzzi , sauna & Turkish baths ( payable) . We enjoyed our holiday but would probably not come back to this hotel .

Friendly, helpful welcome. Room clean comfortable size but no bath it had been replaced by large walk-in shower, missed bath. View, none unless you were a keen tree-lover because it completely encompassed the outlook. Balcony narrow and just two chairs. Staff helpful but felt that not being French affected their attitude a little. Food good and plentiful but not a great choice especially the puddings. Pool area good and plenty of sunbeds. Indoor pool cold and sauna didn't appear to be working but no one there to ask. Worst thing drinks in PLASTIC "glasses" indoors! Noticed a group who were not AI with proper glasses. Location good buses and beach. E15 taxi from/to airport. Still E1.50 to Palma but get card from tobacconist in Main Street for E10 for 10 journeys. We come to C'an Pastillia twice a year for short breaks and stayed at most Hotels but doubt we would stay at this one again.
