The General Manager and its staff are doing an outstanding job. Wonderful old-school European luxury hotel quality service. Very polite, attentive, caring staff, not acting to overwhelming. Always a smile on their face and eager to satisfy the guest and up for a quick chat. Spotless cleaning & well-maintained property. Yes, some parts could be soft renovated, but in this hotel one can see a proper cleaning quality (no scratched fixtures in the bathrooms, spotlessly shining, well maintained furniture). Last but not least, the staff easily goes the extra mile for the guests. Relocating you to a different wing due to construction prior to check-in & receiving a possible complaint, birthday cakes & little treatments for a wow-moment. This is a hardly seen attitude and approach in luxury hotels nowadays. Thank you.
We have stayed at Castillo Son Vida and it was actually the best place we could have booked. The building itself is a 'castillo' and they even have a big tower that looks amazing during the evening. The best part of this place is their immense golf fiend, gardens and a terrace from where you can see the whole city. First time we got there was super late and couldn't see much of the view, but in the next morning we've had breakfast with this amazing landscape in front of us. Also I have to tell you about the delicious dinner we've had there and as you can see from the pics, it was pretty appealing too. Adrian got lamb ribs and I have tasted the beef that was amazing and well done, as I like it.
One of the more interesting hotel stays I've experienced. You don't get to stay in real 13th Century castle decorated with antiques too many often. I am sure it was my first one. While the hotel can be a bit stiff and stuffy both service and the rooms, I still recommend it for the amazing architecture and the most amazing of the island. The bar is a must. Just get a glass of gin and tonic and enjoy the view. I thought the service wasn't as professional as it could be and I am sure I was the youngest person staying at the place.
I stayed in a deluxe room on the 8th floor (highest floor) with a splendid view. The room was oversized with a charming wooden ceiling decoration, warm colours and all amenities that you could wish for. The room had a large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. The hotel’s occupancy was not high as it was low season, but the bar and 1 of the 2 restaurants were open and all the food that I tasted was excellent. There were friendly staff everywhere and beautiful decorations all over the hotel. The Spa was closed for renovation but a gym was available with a small heated pool/jacuzzi. I enjoyed my stay at the Castillo Hotel Son Vida very much and would come back to this beautiful castle any time. All round it was a very pleasant experience.
Definitely one of the really highest end hotels I stayed in. Beautifully located on a hill top with absolutely amazing views over Palma. Around 15 minutes drive from the center and surrounded by golf courses (4 of them). Unfortunately the indoor pool is under refurbishment, but it is possible to use one in the Sheraton hotel approximately 1 km away. Breakfast is served in a great room with view over Palma. The choice is big, the food very tasty. The Restaurant is also open for dinner, great food (for an hotel ;), unfortunately the second restaurant is closed so the choice is limited. The rooms are very nice, the service level superb.
We visited this hotel 3 weeks ago on a weekend in Mallorca. We have already stayed there several times and are absolutely never disappointed. The hotel in itself is beautiful the view from the terraces is absolutely stunning, it’s an oasis of peace and beauty. The gardens are very well-kept with manicured lawns. As for the personnel, they are extremely friendly and helpful, Whether you are a guest or you are just having coffee, they treat you as if you were the most valuable customer. For me this hotel is it 10 and a must.
This is a wonderful hotel that really does feel very luxurious. Fantastic breakfast spread and delicious food in the restaurants. We went to Majorca for a reminds wedding and the Grooms party all stayed here. A great start to the weekend.
The hotel is set in the beautiful estate of Son Vida and housed in a 13th century building almost disney like when you approach it in the evening with the dim yellow night lamps guiding you from the entrance gates to the hotel. On arrival the efficient and friendly porter was already there to help with our luggage and we checked in at reception with the warm and friendly guest services staff member. I had put in a request for a high floor but we were on the second floor which was still super quiet due to its location in the hotel and the fact that the hotel was running at very low occupancy at this time. I didn’t really appreciate the salesy attempt to offer us a ( one level up) nicer room for a fee since if there are so few guests then a small upgrade can better offer a welcome gesture than what we were offered. I had already looked at deluxe v grand deluxe and it was mostly a difference in size so to tell us we could secure a higher floor by going for this room was not the most authentic welcome. Furthermore if you ask the guests if they like to jave a newspaper then please also inform of the charge...this was removed the next morning by the delightful Ramon but a fee tjings combined together at our check including a charge to our card for the room ( whilst it was pre paid) left us with not the best impression of this otherwise pleasant and jovial check in staff. The main reason why we struggle to give a higher rating for this hotel was : 1) the food 2) the aged interior eg. Dusty 3) the breakfast We felt the above had some way to go before it was at the level of the other 5 stars in Mallorca we had stayed at. Yes the hotel is in an elegant and upscale albeit suburban part of town and all the staff without exception are very friendly and helpful but for us the overall experience fell short of the benchmark experienced at previous places. The food was uninspired- for example my caesar salad had a few small pieces of chicken which was clearly not freshly cooked or from the bone- it seemed closer to a high end processed variety and the lettuce / dressing were very plain and the tomatoes sour. The burger meat was on the chewy side and the tomato soup was more cream than tomato. It was definitely not 5 star food when in Mallorca its not that hard to find good, high quality, ripe produce. Someone somewhere was cutting corners... Breakfast was better especially the eggs were nicely cooked but again the choice was closer to a standard breakfast buffet and there was little of the ‘luxury collection’ hotel feeling here. The room itself was very beautiful and the views from the terraceof the tranquil gardens very serene. However curtains and carpets and even mattresses are in need of a change. Anyone with dust allergies might want to bring some extra antihistamines... despite the ‘old furnishings’ the hotel is kept very clean but the old world dustiness can only be got rid of properly by updating the furnishing/ carpet/ bedding. If this was done i think the hotel would have a transformative effect and whilst we didn’t check out the spa / boutiques on the grounds it does- because of all these facilities- have the potential in our view to be just as fabulous as for eg, the St Regis, Mallorca.
If you are into plush, golf, and tasteless Florida type of chic, this vast property fifteen minutes from Palma is for you. Indoor and outdoor pool, on premises polo shirts and jewelry stores, a lavish terrace with view of the sea (far away) for an evening cocktail… It spells luxury loudly and tackily. It’s unfortunate because the rooms are very comfortable, the bathrooms well equipped and roomy with bath and shower, and the grounds are on the site of an old castle (hence its name) of which they unfortunately only kept the tower. But you are far from everything so if your goal is to see this little gem that is Palma de Mallorca, you are much better off at a boutique hotel such as Hotel Cort. To be fair, the breakfasts are full on, the restaurant rather nice although too fancy and expensive for everyday dinners, and the two swimming pools (one quiet, one for family with children) an excellent idea but unless your main goal is to hit a few balls on their small green, skip the castle. I did get a massage there which, without frills, was adequate although not memorable.
The hotel set on the Mallorca hills offers a fantastic stay whether for business or for pleasure. Rooms are very spacious and you have a great view of the sea. The sunrise and the sunset are just priceless... Food was exceptional (best dessert EVER)but a little too much (and the lunch was sloooowwwww), but apart from that...nothing to complain about! A pity it was a little cold but for a summer stay, definitely recommendable. And the peace...far away from the masses...just great!
