First of all, after reading negative comments from previous, holidaymakers I was very concerned as what lay ahead. But I was pleasantly surprised the hotel is after all a 3 star, the food was good plenty of choice & Cala'dor is awash with restaurants if you prefer to eat out. The rooms are basic no air con but felt safe leaving the doors open, they could do with a refurb, but very clean. Staff are very pleasant especially lovely Heidi on reception xx Go with an open mind & enjoy one of the loveliest locations possibly one of the best views on the Island. Enjoy... maybe take a Kettle Could improve rooms with a Fridge & a Kettle HAPPY HOLIDAYS X
Room: Good enough, but very noisy. Arrivals one side, deliveries and bin lorries the other side, never ending. Food: No complaints, go with realistic expectations though. Pool: Ok but there are about 25 sunbeds for a hotel of maybe 200+ people? - You must push and shove in the daily queue or lose out. Bar: Queues at peak time fair enough. Cocktails are post-mix from a drinks machine, kind of takes the shine off it. Facilities and lifts: As per my title, everything works, but only some times. Painful! (6 night stay)
Stayed here at the end of August for a cheap last week of the school holidays break. It is a 3 star hotel and I think some people need to remember that in their reviews as they seem to be comparing it with 4 star plus establishments. We were a family of 4 with 2 13 year old boys and have stayed in a range of hotels in Turkey, Greece and Spain and stayed in Cala D'Or the previous year (the other side of the resort). Positives - the hotel probably has one of the best settings in the whole of Cala D'Or - Cala Ferara is the best bay in my opinion of all of the bays around Cala D'Or. There are areas where you can jump from the cliff in to the sea which my children enjoyed and there are ladders in to the sea if you are not as adventurous. I would recommend getting a mask or goggles and taking some bread in the sea with you as I have never seen so many fish close up and eating the bread out of your hands. Food was generally good - not huge choice but always found something to eat and actually prefered the lunches to the evening meal. All family always found something decent to eat - would have liked some pancakes at breakfast but generally it was fine for 3 star. Entertainment at night was mixed - one funny magician and some singers on a couple of nights while we were there. Cala Ferara is lovely - range of fairly typical tourist shops, couple of play areas with go karts trampolines etc and a couple of really good crazy golf places. Staff were pleasant enough - lovely girl down by the pool bar but all were fine. Get the impression the hotel does not really want to be all inclusive as staff did seem to be more upbeat with the paying guests. Downsides - there is some air conditioning in some rooms but not in very many. I had enquired about a sea view hoping for a free upgrade but was quoted 15euros a night for the privilige of a 'sea view' if you lean out of the balcony a bit! As we had asked they tried to put us in there and charge us but we said no and moved rooms the next day. The hotel advertises entertainment - on our first day there was a chap with dredlocks organising water polo and volleyball but that was it for the whole week. Another guest said that he had to leave due to a family illness but when you have paid for a week and expect activities for the children that is pretty poor. You do wonder if the cook had been called away would they have replaced them or just not fed you and not bother to explain why. The pool area really lets the hotel down - the rest of the hotel is smart enough but the pool area is all cracked tiles and dodgy painting on the walls - an upgrade of this area really would improve the impression of the whole hotel - the upstairs area above the pool is smart so it would not take too much to really spruce up this area. Never had any trouble getting a sun bed although people do reserve them and then disappear for most of the day. On the Beach website advertises that the hotel has a gym which it does not - this seems to be the only website that does this but if that is the site you are using you may be misled (expect this is not the hotels fault) Overall we had a good week at the hotel - for a 3 star hotel it is doing its job - but a couple of areas spruced up would make a big difference. We would not return to this hotel (we like visiting different places) but we would come back to Cala D'Or again and would recommend the hotel for a chilled out holiday in a fantastic location that was at a decent price.
My wife and I, along with our two daughters aged 7 and 4, spent a week here in August. It was our first family holiday abroad so to say we were excited would be an understatement! And we weren't disappointed. The resort itself is lovely with lots of bars and restaurants and some good entertainment for both adults and children. As for the hotel, it was great! The location is wonderful with great views from the pool and the terrace. There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby and cala dor centre is just a 10 minute walk away. The hotel itself is immaculately clean and we found the staff to be very friendly. I honestly can't believe some of the negative reviews! OK so the hotel is a little dated but you can tell this from the pictures on the hotels' website so I don't really understand how someone can complain about this after they've visited, literally what you see in the pictures is what you get. And no, the rooms don't have air conditioning but again, you would know this before you booked. Another complaint I've seen is that you have to pay for the TV remote, which is true, but who goes on holiday to watch TV!? Our room was spacious, although we were lucky to be given a two bedroom, and the beds were comfortable enough. It was also fairly quiet despite the fact our balcony was on the side of the hotel overlooking the car park. The pool is a decent size, maybe a little bit small for the amount of guests, and yes there are a few cracked tiles here and there but I can honestly say this didn't affect my holiday in any way (seriously who cares!?). There was never a mad rush for sunbeds as some have stated. Each morning when I went to put towels out at 9am, which is when the pool opens after the gentleman had finished jet washing the surrounding area, there were maybe half a dozen people waiting for the barrier to be taken down. We were half board and the food was delicious, especially the breakfast, with lots to choose from each day and lots of variety throughout the week. The entertainment was good although, as we weren't all inclusive, we did venture out most nights so didn't spend all night every night in the hotel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely return in the future Side note: One evening at dinner, the woman who had been sitting on the table next to ours had decided to put a plate on top of another plate that was absolutely covered in oil and when the waiter picked the plate up the oil spilled all over the floor, all over my chair and down the back of my white shirt! It was in no way the waiters fault, he couldn't have known the bottom plate was covered in oil, but he was absolutely distraught and couldn't apologise enough. He must have said sorry 20 times. I told him it was fine and that accidents happen but he spoke with the head waiter who then took me to see the manager. He explained what had happened and the manager offered to have my shirt dry cleaned and returned to me the next day. I actually managed to wash all the oil out myself so this wasn't necessary but I was very impressed with the way the staff dealt with the situation. The head waiter even gave me a round of drinks on the house later that evening!
we had a week in cala ferrera hotel ,must say all the bad reviews are so correct ,like stepping back in the 70s ,unfriendly staff in fact quite rude and unhelpful, no air con, hired a dated fan that was no use at all . the food was so bad we all had stomach bugs, so ended up eating out .so definitely not get our moneys worth. being told to go to bed at 11.45 ,never been told to go to bed on holiday!. only one drink per person and only one tiny ice cream per person . No entertainment and having to listen to the hotel next door with there great fun sounding entertainment, whilst sitting in your unfriendly depressing room . would not recommend this as a family hotel .the only thing it has going for it is the location.
Negatives: we were all inclusive and treated like second class citizens. The kids could have one very small ice cream at a time. They're a little bigger that the munch bunch yogurts. If you went straight back for another you'd be questioned. The branded ice creams are in a tall freezer with a chain and padlock on (no I'm not joking). The coffee from the machines was awful but if you were paying you got a lovely fresh cup. Not allowed straws in soft drinks only for cocktails and slushes. All inc cocktails are awful out of a machine but freshly made if paying. There's a water tap on downstairs bar but Eduardo would not allow us to fill water bottle. He is a real jobs worth and extremely unhelpful and unfriendly in fact ALL dining room and bar staff looked miserable and were just. It friendly. We could clearly see they were discussing guests with each other. Not much safety around the pool and steps going down to beach are questionable. We were informed we could upgrade to air con but only abt 6 rooms have air con. We were lucky and managed to move rooms and pay additional €5 per day. You have to queue for sun beds around the pool as there's just not enough. Entertainment is dire. I could go on and on. We have just booked our 2018 holiday and going self catering as it put us off. Positives: Hotel is clean albeit dated. Food is bearable and something to eat most nights unless fussy eater then you'd struggle. Breakfast was the better meal. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. I've given it 3 out of 5 instead of 2 simply because of the location. It really is stunning and the beach is gorgeous. Highly recommend scuba diving. You can hire 2 sun beds and umbrella for €12 and you can reserve them if you pay for two days or more in advance. Not far from shops and restaurants and abt 20 minutes walk to the centre where there is a large area of bars and restaurants.
I stayed here with my husband for our honeymoon.. I wouldn't choose it myself.. the hotel it's self was always clean and tidy the rooms where made up every day.. the all inclusive drinks weren't that bad although they aren't top self you still get a great selection.. including Gin,vodka, whiskey, beer cocktails and wine.... The food well it's good if you like fish and things covered in a sauce.. breakfast was great and the food by the pool was good too..Most of the restaurant staff are rude. I can only remember 2 staff members who smiled and were friendly.. entertainment was rubbish. The pool area was always clean and tidy..
Just back from a week at this hotel and overall feeling would be that it could be so much better if some money was spent on a refurb. Good points: FANTASTIC views over the cove that could be enjoyed from the pool side or the sun terrace. There are a few steps down onto the beach which is clean if sometimes busy. Size of the hotel means that everything is handy. Staff were excellent and very friendly. Not so good points: Bedrooms although clean are in need of updating. Small bathrooms and balcony furniture very uncomfortable. Food was average and not very warm. Pool area had cracked tiles. The hotel was full of French guests and catered for them accordingly. Overall: an average stay that could be improved quite easily
Hi we had a seven day vacation booked 24/8/17-31/8/17 but due to a family bereavement we had to curtail our stay and we would like to thank the reception staff for the compassion shown to us on reading some of the reviews prior to coming out we weren't sure what to expect but don't be put off by some of the negative comments we had booked an all inclusive sea view room and found the hotel is in a fantastic location and a sea view that really was not the sea on the horizon as some other hotels advertise The room and the hotel was kept spotless and the staff friendly the entertainment was better than average and children were also well entertained and involved the only downside was I suppose if you were there a fortnight it may get repetitive but it is provided free ,we could not fault the food or the drink plenty of choice on both counts and snacks and ice creams available throughout the day although the free bar ended at 11pm you could still purchase drinks this hotel caters for all nationalities so has to cater for other people's taste as well as brits some other reviews criticise the food but we couldn't fault the food or the hotel we paid a reasonable price and cannot complain after all this is a three star hotel so people shouldn't expect a la carte food if you are on a budget you won't go far wrong going all inclusive at this hotel especially now as the pound almost equals the euro on a one for one basis in the resort and as this hotel is so well situated two minutes from the beach as well you don't need to venture far from the hotels amenities and food and drink we look foreword to returning next year kirsty and ian
Absolutely amazing location, the bay and nearby areas are just amazing. Loads of bars and restaurants in a few minutes walk. Marina nearby which again is beautiful, and you can catch a little bus train too which is handy. The hotel is pretty much what you pay for we were bed and breakfast, the hotel is clean but like other reviews very dated and needs some renovations. The rooms are again clean but very old, the only really really bad thing is the beds!! They are so so uncomfortable, to the point where loads of guests sleep in the day on the sofas in reception and the lobby. At first we were like .. how weird. But on the last two days we also slept on them!! The wire in the mattress comes through and gives you a really bad back/hips. The springs are literally coming though in places. So bear this in mind!! Overall you get what you pay for in this hotel and if you are looking for a cheap break in a beautiful location. Suck it up and go with the flow. Would return but would bring mattress topper!
