We were booked into Roc Portonova during the school Easter holidays with two children age 17 and 13. I was a little apprehensive after having read some reviews but decided there were more good than bad and you can't please everybody. I shouldn't have worried, we had a wonderful week. We arrived about 10pm and were greeted by a lovely lady on the impressive looking reception. Checked in and given the key to our 2 bedroom apartment on the first floor. Yes the apartments are a touch tired, but spacious, clean and beautiful views over the pool, marina and onto the sea. Apartments have everything you could need - well equipped kitchen including bin liners and matches for the gas hob, even a sponge washing up liquid and tea towel, a hairdryer in the bathroom (wish I'd known before I packed mine), as well as liquid soap and shower gel dispensers. There's a utility area great for washing out sand from costumes and hanging out to dry. Iron and iron board, if you want! The beds were comfortable. Towels were changed every two days and sheets changed twice while we were there. The pool looked lovely but was very cold so early on in the year, it was only the kids using it. Pool bar was great with happy hour from 3.30pm. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on food. Excellent location just a sort walk to the shops and restaurants in town. Staff were all helpful and friendly especially David. We loved our week at Roc Portonova and would recommend to anyone.
We are now regulars at the Portonova and David and his team always look after us very well. The 2-bed apartments are large, clean and have fabulous views over the harbour and beyond. Yes, as others have said, they may be overdue for a refurbishment but that doesn't bother us in the slightest. Just one complaint. Mr Roc, please don't spoil this place by booking in too many stag/hen parties. The pool area was not a pleasant place to be on Friday April 27th, for residents or staff.
Loved this hotel!! When we arrived there was a mix up on our booking (Travel Republic's fault) but the next day we were moved rooms and had excellent views! The apartments are a bit dated but they were very spacious and had everything you needed! Maids were very helpful and kept the room tip top! Excellent location for this hotel - straight across the road from the promenade/beach - and just a short walk to all the hustle and bustle! Would definitely recommend this hotel - only thing maybe is I didn't see any kids clubs etc. but maybe it was because it was too early in the season. They do have an indoor pool though which any kids there loved! And there is a pool bar which had lovely food and great service! Happy Hour 3.30-4.30! David on the hotel reception was great at his job and very helpful!
Oh dear these apartments are so run down and basic. We have just returned from a week here and we definitely would not return. The kitchen area was grubby and the bath room was covered in ants and really grimy. The mattress on the bed was only an inch thick and the patio doors were secured with a small hook. The reception area was clean but overall the place needs a complete renovation
The staff at this hotel are brilliant, the apartment kitchen does need updating but is spotlessly clean as is the rest of the apartment. Beautiful front line position, seconds from the best beach I know. I know go at least twice a year if I can
We went for a two bedroom apartment that was comfortable, clean and was exactly what we needed. The hotel is in a great location on the end of the beach- it is quiet and most definitely for families. The reception staff were really helpful. We will visit again
We arrived very late at night with 3 children but on arrival the reception area was beautiful and staff at reception were pleasant and helpful. We were given our key and made our way to our room. My heart sank when we entered the room, it was nothing like advertised at all, room was smelly and air con was awful. The only view we had was onto the roof of the steak house next door. My husband and I never slept the rest of the night and I went down next morning and told them that it wasn’t what I’d paid for and demanded another room. Got keys to apartment on floor below which had a pool view and was good for the kids. Room wasn’t the best I’d ever stayed in but it done for the week we were there. Air con was rotten in it aswel. Then the problems started with the sun loungers, the hotel has a non reservation policy so no towels were allowed but it was a disgrace, there was a family every morning came and put 15 towels out!! And they weren’t on them until the evening. Management never bothered taking towels as stated they would do. it left families like my own without beds all day even tho we were at the pool all day. A woman actually ran past the queue waiting every morning that whole week so she could reserve them and no one was on them 90% of the time. Next thing was the cleaning of the rooms, came up from town and our room hadn’t been cleaned when it was suppose to have been so again I went to reception and they said they’d send someone up because we had no clean towels left, next thing room phone rang and cleaner told them I didn’t want room cleaned, I argued over the phone and end up the cleaner had lied she was no where near our room the day at all. Honestly this place sickened my family it’s in a great location but that’s about it. We couldn’t wait to get home again
I stayed here towards the end of September with my 17 year old Son and 14 year old Daughter. The rooms are fairly clean but they are crying out for an upgrade, some cosmetic improvements but more importantly some safety improvements need to be made. The ceiling in the bathroom was bowing (looked like it could collapse at any time) and the plug socket in the lounge was coming away from the wall, the gap was big enough for a toddler to poke their fingers into, so not ideal for little children. The doors to the balcony in the lounge were secured by a hook and eye! The doors to the balcony from the bedroom were not secured by anything, the hook was there but nothing to put into it, needless to say we hired the safe. The doors were able to be opened from the outside if anyone had wanted to do so. Breakfast was not very good, there seemed to be one member of staff doing the cooking, table clearing and replenishing pastries, bread etc, which meant a wait sometimes for the cooked food and also tables took a while to be cleared, this wasn't the fault of the staff member, more a lack of staff, one person can only do so much. The location is the best thing about this hotel.
These self catering apts, are very spacious and clean but bit dated. We had a huge balcony and could see the sea which was great, the pool bar was a nice place to chill in eves, good prices all reasonable, pool was nice bit of struggle getting sunbed someday but always chairs and umbrellas by pool bar free so not a problem. Table tennis for children to play and beach right across the road. Perfect location at quiet end of Palma Nova easy flat walk along the strip of shops and bars and restaurants, we walked to Megalluf a couple times visited Katmandu house and went Parasailing. There's plenty to do. We stayed in these apts during August on bed and breakfast basis which was good, usual cooked breakfast as well as croissants, cereals fruit etc. Staff all very nice to.
Upon check in David was very pleasant and welcoming, he managed to get us a ground floor apartment (No.18) as I wasn't keen about having an apartment high up due to my little one, the lobby of the hotel is beautiful and there is plenty of information about local attractions, when we got to our apartment it is very basic, the patio doors were a struggle to close once open and the glass is a very thin sheet (not child friendly) the beds were comfy (need an extra pillow) as there is only 1 pillow per person and they are very thin, they are abit dated but still had a comfortable stay, on check out one of the house keeping staff even gave our son a lollipop, David checked us out and offered us a taxi if we needed it All in all it was okay and we would return if we ever stopped in Palmanova again
