Marriott's Playa Andaluza3.0 out of 5.0

Playa Andaluza is a beautiful resort set in lovely and very well maintained gardens. Direct access to the beach is a great asset but the beach itself is no great shakes being rather pebbly with many submerged boulders just below the shoreline. The resort does its best to optimise the beach condition though. The accommodation is exemplary very well equipped for self-catering. The restaurant and bar are very attractive but pricey. Likewise the onsite shop is very convenient but prices are much higher than in the local supermarkets. However, the hot fresh bread and croissants on sale every morning can't be beaten.
This is our 2nd trip to Playa Andaluza but this time we brought our extended family and stayed in a 3 bed apartment. From check in to check out this resort oozes 5* luxury. Check in was quick and informative. The only slight negative is that our apartment wasn't ready until 4pm (we had called a couple of weeks in advance to ask if we could get in earlier as we were meeting friends in Estepona at 5pm) and were hoping to shower and change. However, you are allowed to use the facilities on site so the issue was only about getting our suitcases in and changing clothes. We used the fitness classes alot. The gym is great and open from early morning until late at night and classes start at 9am and there is everything from TRX to zumba to water aerobics and we got involved in all of them, kids as well where they could. We used the paddle boards (tennis) and my son played soccer. The pools are amazing, never overcrowded and can always get a sunbed. However, I noticed this year alot of people leaving towels on sunbeds for hours on end without being there. I think the lifeguards should take note of this as especially in the large pool overlooking the sea, some of the best sunbeds had no one on them for hours on end!! We ate out most evenings in the area and we made lunch in the apartment. The resort never seems busy and feels so safe. I can't wait to return next year.
We cannot fault this hotel, very friendly and totally committed staff, beautiful views and accommodation and a variety of activities and entertainment. The fitness team are particularly brilliant, always enjoy the fantastic range of exercise classes run by Cristina and Jose and check out their great new studio. As for evening entertainment, Anthony Wolfson is one of the best reasons to visit Marriott's Playa Andaluza. Fantastic vocalist and such a lovely guy. We always look forward to seeing him on our many trips here and have never been disappointed.
Been visiting here as an owner for the past four years. Nice accommodations, friendly, people, centrally located. All I want. All I need. Love Costa del Sol in August! For adventures thes Ronda, Gibraltar, Starlite Festival, Marbella, Estepona, Granada and the Alhambra. Too much to review. Great place. Great time.
We spent the last few days of our visit to Spain here, and after packing in a lot of touring of Barcelona, Seville and Granada, this gave us a chance to relax. Even though I believe the hotel was almost full, it never seemed to crowded or busy. A lot for kids to do and all very well managed and close together so they can go off on their own. We used paddle tennis, all the pools, table tennis, football and basketball courts. As described in other reviews, the beach is very rocky and swim shoes are a must. I walked quite far up and down the beach and did find some nicer spots to swim, that water can be clear and nice but it's just not that inviting in this area. There is a good restaurant just east of the property along the beach that is a nice change, we used the breakfast buffet, which was very good and ate at Solera and the pool bar and found it reasonable and very good, but a little limited menu. For a longer stay we would have taken advantage of our kitchen, with Aldi and good supermarkets nearby. We took a few day trips and enjoyed a day in Tarifa which was the suggestion of the concierge, I didn't get her name but she was very helpful and provided a lot of details on nearby trips that saved us time and aggravation because this area is very crowded, lots of traffic etc. It's not even easy to find this resort while driving, but once you find it, it feels very removed from all the adjacent development.
We stayed here for 3 nights and booked a two bedroom 2 bath unit which is perfect for a family of 4. Our two boys shared a bedroom which had its own full bathroom. There were two twin beds. My wife and I had the master bedroom with a king bed. The bathroom featured a separate room with a large tub and dual vanity. There was a door which led to a separate area for the large walkin shower. The resort had many activities planned each day for Pre teens and smaller children. There is also a kids club (our children are older ages 12 and 16 so we did not use the kids club). There are 4 pools so no problem at all to find a pool lounger. There were sports courts for basketball, soccer, ping pong tables, pool tables. There is one restaurant which we ate our meals at but most of the guests are there for a week and cook meals in their units as the restaurant was never crowded. Service was excellent at the pool side restaurant but a little slow in the evenings for sit down dinners. The guests are a great mix from Great Britain, Europe, the United States, Russia. The beach as previously mentioned is very rocky, swim shoes are a must. Overall we recommend this hotel as a nice quiet option away from the crowds of Marbella. Regarding side trips we drove to Tarifa which had a great beach and pretty old town. We also took the ferry from Marbella (about a half hour from the resort) to Puerto Banus one of the wealthiest ports in the world which featured super Yachts and exotic cars to gawk at.
A return trip for us to an excellent family resort. Lots of activities on offer for those who want to take part with enthusiastic fun staff such as aqua bingo, pool volleyball, exercise classes etc. The apartments are very well maintained and kept to a very comfortable standard. In particular, on this occasion we had booked two different room types for our two week stay (garden view and sea view). As requested, they allocated us in apartments that were just a couple of doors away from each other so that the transition from one apartment to another was as smooth and hassle free as possible. The sea front apartment was just superb. If you don't mind a leisurely walk, there are several good restaurants within 10-20 mins on foot from trendy beachside at "Salduna", a really good Lebanese called "L'Oriental" or slightly further walk for tapas at Don Juan.
We visited the Solera restaurant and had a wonderful meal. My husband had the fish kebab which was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. I had the burger which was one of the best I've ever eaten. The service was excellent and sitting out on the terrace in the warm evening weather was very special. We were lucky to see Antony Wolfson perform his show - we hadn't planned on seeing a show so this was a very pleasant surprise. Our children were up dancing and next thing were many other dinner guests. His music was our fabulous and included Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Neil Diamond and a beautiful selection of ballads. We loved that he allowed the children to join him on stage and by 10pm the terrace was a full blown party! Even the terrace balconies were joining in the chorus of "Sweet Caroline." We had a wonderful night and the resort and restaurant were first class. We will be back... thank you Marriott.
We travelled with two young boys and stayed in a two bedroom apartment. We thought the resort itself was beautiful and extremely well maintained. We particularly liked the fact that each of the three pools was gated so the children could not open the door by themselves. We also really liked the more casual vibe of the whole resort with no mad rush to put down towels - there were plenty of loungers available even at midday. The bar and restaurant were of a high standard with friendly, helpful staff throughout and happy hour twice a day was a good touch. Our apartment was large and beautifully furnished in a slightly more modern style than other Marriott's we have visited. We loved the silent air conditioning, the shaded balcony, the fully kitted out kitchen and the lovely big shower. The daily cleaning was excellent. We were pleased to have an apartment near the marketplace shop, away from the pool / restaurant area which can get noisy at night time with the entertainment. On-site there is plenty for the family to do with pool, mini golf, chess, ping pong, football, volleyball, basketball courts all available. The shop provides all the main essentials but is obviously at a premium price. There is an Aldi within walking distance of the resort. It is very difficult to find any criticism of this resort. The only slight negative would be the beach which, although sandy, is built over rock and so you can't build sandcastles and run into the sea. However, the beach area is beautiful with plentiful, free loungers for hotel guests. Like I say, hard to find fault.
I just spent a week at Playa Andaluza and I cannot say enough great things! This was my second time staying at this hotel and I look forward to returning some time in the future. In addition to the spacious rooms and awesome pools and beach... the staff is top notch. I would like to give a shout out to Vincent who was our waiter on Monday night at Solero... he was super friendly/attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu (he was able to answer all of my questions). I would also like to mention Bernardo in the spa. He gave me an exceptional reflexology massage. Thank you Playa Andaluza!
