We thought this hotel was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff could not do enough to please you. We went in late January and the weather was warm enough for T shirt and shorts but a cool breeze when out of the sun
I have stayed in three Riu hotels and all have been of a very high standard. The location of the Hotel Riu Monica is outstanding. It is in a quiet area ten minutes walk from the center of Nerja and its bars and night life. The pool area gives access to the promenade and the sea. The hotel and the rooms are well decorated and kept spotless. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is buffet style with a very wide selection of food. I particularly liked the soups and the range of salads and fruit on offer. The manager was present in the restaurant each day and checking all was ok. I loved the hotel and look forward to going back again.
Having stayed here last year, we knew roughly what to expect. Superior rooms with side sea view are a really good size, with plenty of storage and depending on which way they face, offer morning or afternoon sun. As mentioned by another reviewer, the limited toiletries in the bathroom is noticeable - cut backs maybe? Food quality and choice had improved and bar prices were quite reasonable for a 4 star hotel. Entertainment is varied and tries to accommodate a wide range of tastes. Public areas generally very clean although on arrival our bedroom appeared to have been rather hastily done. Maybe this was in an attempt to have rooms ready for early arrivals. Lovely pool area and so convenient to have towels provided. Another enjoyable stay and our choice of hotel in Nerja.
We had high hopes of this hotel for our 11 day stay and were not disappointed! We were allocated a fabulous room with a massive balcony. The food in the dining room was excellent - always hot and plenty of choice. The service, we feel is what makes this hotel so outstanding as it is second to none. Everyone is extremely helpful and cheery which adds to your holiday. Our only gripe, is that on the two occasions we visited the a la carte restaurant we felt the hot tapas were lukewarm and to be honest the food was just as good in the main restaurant. We are looking forward to returning to this fantastic hotel in the near future.
Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. Everywhere spotless, great location on the beech and the staff are wonderful, they really make you feel welcome and special. Rooms are spacious, the food is nice and plenty of variety. Nerja has lovely shops and bars. Would definitely recommend number 34 for a special meal and visiting the caves and Frigliana both one euro on local bus. We will definitely return.
A pleasant hotel recently refurbished. The rooms are large and comfortable with a good bathroom. The staff is friendly and service minded and tries to speak, besides English, a few words German, French, Dutch, Danish and maybe more! The food is fresh and abundant, but eating with more than 200 persons from a buffet in one big dining hall is not really my thing. The hotel has a nice large swimming pool with comfortable beds, right in front of the beach. All in all we had an excellent stay and thanks for the service !!
Our room was on the floor under reception, with a walkway outside our balcony. We were ok with this as we didn't intend using our balcony that much. The room was very comfortable and we had a great shower. However, I was very surprised by the lack of toiletries in our room. All we had were two little hand soaps and the shower gel pump within the shower. All areas of the hotel were spotless, and it was nice to see so many different seating areas both inside and out. Although we didn't use it, the bar area looked nice with comfy seats, and the prices looked ok too. We were on a half board basis and dining staff were pleasant and friendly, and the food was really good. The hotel has opened a 'Spanish' restaurant on pool level which can be booked in advance (dosen't cost any extra) and provides a different menu from the usual buffet, in a more intimate setting. The food and service were really good, but it didn't quite work for us as it had a complete lack of atmosphere. Our preference would be to have the lights dimmed a little with real candles on the tables. A bit of background music would have added atmosphere and made all the difference. Our stay was a pleasant one, and good value for what we paid, but I must mention that during our whole week, we never once saw a member of reception staff crack a smile. While they were very efficient and good at what they did, they definitely were not very friendly at all, and could have been quite intimidating. We were glad not to have to ask for anything. Even during the check out process, we were never asked if everything had been alright during our stay or if we had enjoyed ourselves, which I thought was a bit unusual for a hotel of this calss.
Visited this hotel early March on a Thomson Late Booking. A lot of people checking in from same flight but given a glass of Cava whilst waiting and checked in quickly. Room very nice high floor facing west, good size shower, comfy bed &, plenty of wardrobe space. Very quiet, Meals excellent plenty to chose from, desserts more or less same choice each evening but plenty of variety, Two dining times to chose from we selected the later one. Entertainment very good but plenty of bars just across the road + a supermarket. Plenty of sunbeds. Would not hesitate to return to this hotel.
Very tastefully refurbished hotel. We were made most welcome by friendly engaging staff and standard of food was maintained throughout the week. Being on the sea front and close to town centre made this an ideal location for a perfect holiday. We would certainly be pleased to return. Nerja itself is a beautiful resort with loads of lovely restaurants and outlets.
Wonderfully clean, open and airy with really good sized rooms and excellent staff. The hotel is situated on the sea front with a private gate out onto the promenade at the rear. The main road at the front has small café/bars and mini supermarkets all offering very good friendly service. The main town is a very short walk away and there is a weekly market. The whole town is a delight and the prices are surprisingly low and am considering returning in October. As for evening entertainment I cannot agree with other reviews as that it is in my opinion not the responsibility of the hotel to keep me entertained it is an hotel not a holiday camp.
