This is a good centrally located medium-price hotel. The hotel is within a five-minute stroll of the Plaza Mayor. Museums like the Prado are a healthful 20-minute walk down Calle Atocha. The staff knows their city well, and they can guide you to your favorite destination, such as the barrio Ginés, where you can sip the best chocolate in the world. This is a good buy for a comfortable, modest hotel. Their breakfast is good and affordable.
Location is great, rooms are clean but average. The double bed room was lots smaller than the twin bedroom . A bit loud around bed time as it is right in the centre but then it quiet down. Service was ok. There is breakfast for 8€ but we dis not try it. The toilet didnt work on arrival bit they fixed it almost immediately. We also left the luggage in the storage room while we did our last shopping.
Amazing location with wonderful quiet rooms. Decor is charming and prices are great. We found this hotel through Rick Steves guide book. Never been steered wrong with his help. Easy to find from subway and very close to eating and drinking.
Lovely hotel in a great location, close to all attractions, great base to walk around Madrid. Staff very friendly & helpful. Breakfast buffet has a great selection for all tastes. Would recommend this hotel.
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The location is truly wonderful!! Literally a 30 second walk through an arch to the plaza mayor, and 2 mins to my favourite place in Madrid mercado San Miguel. We had booked a superior room, however I'm not sure what was superior about it?? Hard pillows the floor was terribly uneven, it felt you were walking up hill in some parts of the room!! The bathroom had a really dreadful smell on arrival, and was ice cold. The bed was harder than I normally like, but surprisingly comfortable. Half of the lights didn't work, and the bedding was a sheet with a blanket that looked like it had seen better days. The maid also started banging and cleaning at 8:30am??!! Not great if you needed a lie in. I am a regular traveler to Madrid, and have stayed in numerous diff hotels. This one is purely all about location, and great if you need to be right in the heart of Madrid. But don't bother with a superior room, I don't think it's worth the extra.
Nice hotel, easy to get to, our room on the ground floor was clean, lots of room with large flat screen TV. A great central hotel, just off the main plaza, perfect for a short break with everything you need
Stayed here with my sister, both in our 20s. Was pleasantly surprised by the room. Clean, big with nice big windowed doors overlooking the road and the little square outside. Beds were uncomfortable but there was lots of extra bedding and pillows in the cupboard I used to pad it out a bit. It was extremely noisy as we were overlooking the road. So sleep was lacking severely. However we always expect this when staying so central in a busy city. Didn't need much from the staff but they seemed friendly and helped book us a taxi to the airport. For a busy stay in a great city, there is nothing more you need. Sleep and shower then get out and explore. Would recommend for anyone wanting to save a few pennies on accommodation to spend on a few more drinks.
Just off the Plaza Mayor square, this is a super location for a weekend city break. Room was small, but clean , and the bathroom was well appointed. Comfy beds, surprisingly quiet location, with very short walk to Sol train station for link to airport ( only €2.60 single to airport.) Lots of great places to eat and drink, and easy walks to Parc Retiro in one direction and the Royal Palace in the other. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would have liked a kettle for that first cuppa of the day without having to get dressed and go downstairs. Having said that, would stay again for great value in a great location. Thanks
The room was fab. Definately get the Superior doubles - they are worth the extra. Three juliette balconies on a corner overloooking the square in room 403 was just great. Staff were very, very friendly, jolly and extremely helpful Breakfast? - if you're an English chap then relax; scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon all unlimited from chaffing dishes is available. Croissants and pastries too. Marvellous. All that cold stuff ie Salami, ham, cheese, fruit and salad that the rest of Europe and my wife seems to like is also available. The interior to the room was a bit basic and just needed a few bits to liven it up but it was perfectly acceptable. One plug for the bath and the basin was novel but fun. A shelf in the bathroom to put your things on would have been a kindness. Downstairs bar/restaurant are could do with a bit of a refresh.
We travelled to Spain at least a dozen of times in the past ten years and, anytime we are in Madrid, we stay at Hotel Plaza Mayor. We loved the location and, until recently, we liked the service. For our upcoming trip to Madrid, we booked this hotel via Hotels.com. We made an honest mistake of selecting February instead of March on our reservation and realized the issue immediately after clicking on submit. We spoke with Hotels.com, emailed the hotel, and called them on several occasions, asking to change the reservation (not cancel! but change). No one at the hotel was willing to help us or even consider escalating it to the manager. Hotels.com was finally able to speak with a manager after 5 days but the response was negative. This change would not have cost the Hotel anything more and, in fact, we were willing to pay for any of the difference in the rate in order to secure this change. No one was even open to negotiations. This complete unwillingness to consider the circumstances and appreciate the loyalty of the customer is a clear sign of poor customer service. In the end, the hotel made 180 euros profit on us... We are very disappointed and will never consider staying at this hotel again. We will also not recommend this hotel to any of our friends, although this used to be our prime recommendation in the past. Very sad.
