The hotel is quite clean; we were comfortable during our stay. There is a rooftop terrace which is a bonus; nice to hang out on a warm day/evening. Right across from the Principe Pio, there is very easy access to the subway station and a mall. We chose to take Uber to locations like Museo del Prado, Mercado San Miguel, Cava Baja and it was about 5-7 euros. It's a 20 minute walk (a bit uphill) to the Royal Palace. There are several restaurants on either side of the hotel. The hotel can arrange for a taxi to the airport; but the driver we got was a VERY aggressive driver and it was not a relaxing end to our vacation.
We arrived at this hotel after a long day of traveling from Bordeaux and we greeted very unpleasantly. I had rung up earlier in the day to find out about parking options and was told there was parking at the back of the hotel, however after battling my way through madrid to try and find it I gave up and parked in the underground parking opposite the hotel which was the same price anyway. When I explained this to the man behind the desk I was told it was my fault and that I would still need to pay as I had reserved a space. The room itself was lovely, and the location was great with a really nice view. Shame about the unwelcoming reception but would potentially go back.
Good location - a 15 minute walk from the 'old town' and it's sights, bars and restaurants. The railway and metro stations are just across the road, so make getting around simple. Rooms were nicely presented in contemporary style, decent size although not huge - ours was rear-facing and had a cute little balcony ( the rooms facing the station/ main road don't all have a balcony). There's a lovely ' living area' on the first floor with comfy sofas and a coffee machine ( charge for coffee). Breakfast was well worth the €8 (ish) euros - bread, rolls, toast, preserves, deli meats/ cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cakes and croissants. There was also bacon and scrambled eggs - had neither so can't comment. The bar was actually next door and not what you'd expect of a hotel bar - bit disappointing in this respect, but at least the prices weren't extortionate. At the prices they charge, I'd go again.
I stayed at this place for 5 days, Cons: No Minibar provided. No water bottles given. Tap water was not good. WiFi connection was meager. Towels were not changed everyday. Pros: Located in a very well connected place with theatre and shopping mall nearby, And very close to the Metro. Stay in the top floors is good. Room is well isolated, and peaceful. Totally a good place to stay if you are not going to spend much time in the room.
Pleasant and decent breakfast buffet in attached Cafe. Westernized shower with air conditioning in room. No mini fridge if you were wondering. There is a small safe, free WiFi and cable. Located across from main train station made it way to get around and front desk is nice.
Really great hotel not far from city center and close to subway. Best thing was when I asked for room with nice view I got room on the last floor with reeaaaaly great view over the city. Definitely I'll be back to that hotel!
Location: if you like to walk and discover new cities, the Madfor is ideal for doing so. you're at a 5-10 minute walk from all the important sites in the city center. it's also well deserved by public transportation (metro, cercanías, bus and train) Rooms: The rooms are pretty nice, cosy, with modern and spacious designs. you can find all the amenities (wi-fi, a/c, safe) that are necessary to have a nice stay at the hotel
The rooms were clean. Desk staff very helpful and met all our needs. Buffet breakfast was eh. Loved the living salon. The room and bathroom a little on the small side but well maintained and modern. the desk gave tips on where to see things. One of their choices Las Tablas Flamenco located right near an overpass rocked our world. Quality dancing and singing and musicians and good wine too. We loved it.
Located just across the road feom Principe Pio, access to the hotel is very easy by public transport.. plus the mall and next door supermarket make it super convenient, especially when traveling with a baby. Most attractions are within walking distance. The rooms are just right, and if you are planning to spend a lot of time outdoors then the slightly smaller size of the rooms won't matter. Bathrooms are great with a fantastic shower head. There's a single bath gel slash shampoo and one soap but no other toiletries are provided. No English channels on TV but to be honest, we didn't really want to watch any TV.
Rooms: The rooms are spacious and modern, with a large shower (no bath) in the bathroom. There is a safe in the room which is free to use, and the wifi signal in the rooms was great. I slept well most nights however on the first night it was difficult as there was someone in the street outside shouting at 3am. Also, the corridors are noisy as the doors shut loudly and the hard floors mean that when people are coming back or leaving, you can hear them. Rooms were pretty clean, however I did notice when sat in front of the mirror that the previous guests hair was on the floor therefore had not been cleaned up properly. Other than that, everything else was fine, comfy bed, fantastic shower and plenty of space, sockets etc. Breakfast: We went for breakfast just one morning and it is priced at 8.50 euros per person. Breakfast included coffee, fruit juice, water, toast, choice of two cereals, warm milk, soya milk, pastries, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, bacon, small sausages and scrambled eggs. It was nothing special, especially for the price so we ate at McDonalds for breakfast over the road for 3 euros each instead. I think for the hotel to make the breakfast worth 8.50 I would add in some more hot options such as baked beans, friend eggs and hash browns etc. Service: The reception desk staff were always helpful and could answer our questions and provide us with a map. They were very knowledgeable and helped us get to the Warner Brothers Theme Park by train/bus as it is about an hour out the city. Location: The hotel is in a fantastic location! It is opposite Principe Pio metro/train station which links you up to the rest of the city by metro. We bought a 1 week tourist metro ticket which costs 35 euros each. The station is on the dark blue number 10 line which crosses many other lines but can take you direct to Real Madrid's stadium, Parc de Attractions and the Zoo. There is a supermarket next door which was fab, we bought lunch there a few times, you could get a sandwich, crisps, cookies and a drink for two for under 4 euros. As a result, we spent a few lunch times on the hotel's rooftop terrace as there was no one up there and with views of the palace it was the perfect palace to spend lunch. The hotel is also in walking distance of the popular places to go such as the royal palace, plaza de espana, gran via, sol and plaza mayor. Things to do: During our stay we went to Parc de Attractions and Warner Brothers Theme Park, Retiro Park, Atletico Madrid Stadium Tour, Real Madrid Stadium Tour, Las Ventas Bull Ring Tour, Zoo & Aquarium, Royal Palace (which is free after 6pm) and had a good wander round the plaza's such as Sol and Plaza Mayor. Overall, I would come back to this hotel next time I stay in Madrid, as there is still plenty more to do because of its fantastic location! if you are thinking about a break away in Madrid, don't hesitate to book this hotel.
