We stayed here from the 25th Dec to the 1st Jan 2018. An amazing hotel with everything we could ever want. Service and staff - excellent. Very efficient and friendly. Bedroom was great, view of course was exceptional. Although the buffet was very good, we did like the idea of the Dine Around. The Casa das Espetadas restaurant with its kebabs was very good and the Italian - Mamma Mia's was excellent with mouthwatering steaks cooked exactly to our liking. We must just mention the very helpful and friendly Customer Services team. Susan in particular helped with our problem. We were not aware that we were expected to dress 'formally' for the Gala Dinner on New Year's Eve so consequently we were without a Jacket and tie. Susan pulled out all the stops and provided exactly what was needed. (So if anyone is going to a Gala Dinner at this hotel, please be aware that you cannot get into the Restaurant without a jacket, tie, and dress shoes). We must also mention Elia Ferreira who was our room maid. She kept our rooms spotless and always had a friendly word with us. We would certainly keep this hotel on our list of top hotels and hope to return in the future.
I stayed from the 24/12 to the 3/1 spending the Holiday Season in Funchal which I strongly recommend. About the hotel, there are no pictures or videos that can express how amazing it is. The complex is located 30 min walk from downtown and on the Best area of the city, soriunded by readtaurants, bars, etc. The layout is just amazing and the architecture very modern and beautiful. First line of the shore, all rooms have sea view with a great private terrace. You will have the feeling that you are on a ship since is really close to the sea. Actually you will sleep listening to the waves. Rooms are spacious, well furnished and confortable. As the whole hotel, the daylight is the main element. The architecture of the whole installation is centered on the light and sea. Breakfast buffet is excellent and you will have the possibility to see stunning sunrises while having it on the terrace. 4 swimming pools on a wide sea front. Access to the sea very easy. Great pool restaurant (do not miss the "lapas" and rices). Again the view is stunning. Great spa and gym. The service is absolutely amazing. Staff is as efficient (very!) as welcoming, nice and cozy. A special word to Helena, Dorita, Mónica and Rafa! (I can't express how welcomed you made me feel!) Great for couples, families or single guests like me. This is one of my best hotel experiences ever and is from this stay onwards my only choice in Funchal.
Just returned from first trip to Madeira. The Island is wonderful, with plenty to see and do, no graffitti or litter and the friendly population all are very proud of their island. The hotel, while very large is well maintained, with goof helpful staff, large clean rooms and (I think) all rooms face the sea. Food very good and varied and again staff very helpful. The piano bar is worth visiting just to watch the bar staff carving fruit and vegetables in to fantastic shapes for use in the cocktails. The ''dine around'' is very good and allows for a mix of catering. The whole experence was restful and relaxing and I wish we had ''found'' Madeira years ago.
We returned this year for our sixth visit to this excellent hotel and it didn't disappoint! The location is superb as are the facilities, three outdoor pools and one indoor pool with a massive terrace right at the ocean side (you can swim in the sea if you prefer!). The half board arrangement is unbeatable - several restaurants to choose from with different cuisine. The buffet restaurant offers infinite variety on a nightly basis but there is also Mamma Mia's Italian Restaurant and also a Portuguese Restaurant and Sushi Restaurant plus a brilliant restaurant for lunches at pool deck level. All the rooms offer a sea view with balcony, which is a unique design feature of the hotel. There are several bars to choose from locally (and many local restaurants near the hotel if you want to eat out for lunch) to watch a sporting event, rugby, football or cricket. It's a pleasant walk into Funchal or the other way to Camara de Lobos but there are numerous taxis if you prefer to ride. We cannot fault this hotel and will return again in the near future.
We had such a fabulous time at the Videmar Hotel in Madeira. The staff couldnt do enough to help us. The buffet food was really good and the Japanese restaurant alternative was amazing. The Thalasso spa with its jets and bubbles was such a luxury and lying in the sunbeds looking at the ocean was heavenly. It was clean well maintained and even though it is such a large hotel the staff made it feel very homey. We will be coming again next year. Lorraine S
This hotel is clean and modern, which may seem less homely than some, but it reflects the very high, slick standards of service and facilities, and the smiling staff genuinely seem to want everyone to enjoy their Christmas. So much hard work went into the entertainment and gala dinner on Christmas Eve, with attention to every detail, from candelabra to festive napkin ribbons and food that was presented with sophistication and skill, delivered under the excellent direction of the maitre d' of the night. We had a superior sea view room, which had an enormous bed, double-sink bathroom, sofa and plenty of room - to be highly recommended. The dine-around option gives a choice of 4 restaurants, and the buffet in the Ocean Restaurant gives plenty of choice, including eggs cooked any way you want them, to order. We would have liked to know there was a free shuttlebus into Funchal before nearing the end of our stay, but that aside we could not fault this hotel, and it is conveniently near a public bus stop and small shops. Happy staff, who care about how well they do their job, make a happy atmosphere. We only wished we could have stayed on for New Year...
Top class hotel very friendly and helpful staff the food was superb. We tried all the restaurants and they were really good. The indoor pool with jaquzzi and sauna was nice to relax in, also the spa treatment is highly recommended.Very clean and well maintained hotel.
The location of this resort is very nice with a fantastic view of the Atlantic ocean from the Ocean buffet restaurant and the hotel room. There are many nice restaurants nearby and I can strongly recommend the restaurant Casa Das Espetadas Maderian which is one of the hotel restaurants. I liked Funchal and Madeira very much due to the fantastic nature and the many activities.
Having stayed here in September 2016 we were greatly looking forward to a return visit. Last time we were in a garden Room which was lowdown with a restricted view of the sea. This time we were so say upgraded to a superior room on the 8th floor. This had a great seaview but I think was smaller than the other room and only had one large bed instead of two large beds. The room was clean and was kept that way during the stay. Fresh water was left every day. However the big disappointment was the quality of the food. Our last visit I would have described the food as superb. This time however I could only say average OK. At one time I would have said I could go here almost every December for a break but I am not sure I will be returning. There is no real meeting/focal point in the hotel. This is not so important in the summer, but it is in the winter evenings. We still enjoyed our week as the weather was very acceptable for December. All staff we came across were friendly and helpful. However I think the management needs to make the public areas more welcoming and friendly.
This was our 5th trip to the hotel - we like the location and the sea views. The hotel was very quiet which clearly impacted on the budget for the chef for evening meals - inedible bland fatty evening meals even on 22 December and on the 2 evenings we tried mama Mia my son had ants in his spaghetti and I had hairs in my roast veg. Really poor and disappointing - spoils the whole experience - ons downward spiral as now you can only book half board which means it’s getting more expensive and poorer quality so will loose loyal guests like my family to the Pestana Promenade which now has much better reviews for food and families.
