Just back from a week at this wonderful hotel. Met all our expectations. The hotel was clean and welcoming. Had treatments in the Spa which was very relaxing. The dine around concept worked well and for first time Sushi eaters the staff were extremely helpful. Pools and sunbathing areas were immaculate. Courtesy bus into Funchal was useful. All staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Well done all. We would highly recommend this hotel.
We [a group of 6] spent 5 nights at this hotel our rooms were spacious and clean, the enormous beds were very comfortable. We ate at the buffet 4 nights and never had a problem with the temperature of the food We ate in Mamma Mia from the inclusive menu and enjoyed it. The pool area was great lots of room and the staff were helpful and there was always someone to get us food or drinks all at a reasonable price. The Spa was very good, pool was invigorating ! Overall our break was really relaxing and fun.
We stayed here 19th June for a week, wish we had booked for longer. Lovely hotel, wonderful staff. Rooms are large and beds are 'Huge'. Food was good and lovely and clean restaurants. First time in Madeira and will definitely go back again. Thank you Vidamar.
Would highly recommend this hotel! Stayed here for a very relaxing week. The hotel is approx 25 mins from the airport and very central in Funchal. Amenities, food and staff are all very good, We were half board which gives you the choice of buffet in the main hotel, traditional Portugese, Sushi or Italian We visited Mama Mia the most as the italian food was very good, The 25 min walk downhill to the shopping centre and market is very pleasant with a lovely park on the way. We explored the area with the hop on and off bus which also takes you to nuns valley with a change of bus for the final climb. Local buses are plentiful too. It is also worthwhile taking the cable car for panoramic views and coming back down on the traditional toboggan (30euros) , and there is also a waterside walkway to the fishing village of Camara de lobos which will take approx 1 hour. There is a great supermarket across from the hotel that serves coffee and a custard tart for 1.30 euros and the cocktails in the hotel are great, The hole in one bar acoss the road has live music as well as the hotel. I would be very surprised if you dont like this hotel and the beautiful floral island. The only scary thing may be your landing at the runway at the airport- no margin for error!!!!
We stayed at this hotel resort on 2nd June for a week. There is nothing to fault it. The staff were friendly, the rooms were immaculate, we had a top floor which had a direct sea view (recommended). The food was varied and plentiful. We ate at the other restaurants on offer, the only one we would not have returned to was mamma mia which is an Italian restaurant. It is not authentic and lacks atmosphere. The traditional Portuguese evening was entertaining with great bbq food. The Sushi restaurant ranks amongst some of the best sushi we have had. It is within walking distance of Funchal but it takes around 15 minutes and is very steep on the way back. If I had to have a negative it would be lack of beach, there is a pontoon in the sea but it is weather dependent, however I believe this is the case in most of Madeira.
Having read reviews from other people i wasn't sure what to expect, most reviews were good with some negative comments thrown in. We Arrived late on a Sunday and decided against going out, so we took in the buffet restaurant. We had read that the food on offer wasn't very good and we disagreed completely, offering a variety of hot options, salads, cold meats, cheeses and desserts we thought what was offered was more than adequate for a buffet that caters for potentially hundreds of guests. The breakfast offerings were also fantastic, Hot, options, cold options, fruits, pastries and drinks, perfect! The pool area was fantastic, yes it's grey but what do you want people? infinity pools were fabulous. We tried each of the restaurants offered in the dine around concept, mostly using the a la carte menus with the €15 credits. Pick of the bunch for us was the Sushi restaurant 'Koi Sushi', WOW. There is an option to let the chef choose the dishes for you, do that, 100% She is an absolute star! The chambermaid kept our room spotless, so a big thumbs up there. My Girlfriend had a birthday while we were there and we were left a lovely chocolate cake and a bottle to enjoy, so thank you so much. A wonderful way to make your guests feel special. Every member of staff gets a thumbs up from me, there are too many to choose one, Waiters, waitresses, bar staff, reception staff, all absolutely fantastic. I especially like that Vidamar have a lot of young people training, i found this very refreshing. We will definitely come back to visit you again.
Overall the hotel was good so as the hygienist who was cleaning our room. The food in the hotel is ok but it could do with a better variety, after the 4th day you kind of have enough of eating the same things. The swimming pool is the best part of the hotel. There was more elderly people rather than young. Me(26) and my fiance(30) were placed in a disabled room. The shower was just not good at all. I dont see how a disabled person could take a shower there. There was a plastic curtain which a) was super annoying when you take a shower because there was no space and b) the water from the shower was spreading in the whole bathroom. We have asked the receptionist if we can be placed in another room but they had only one room with 'garden' view, when our one was with sea view. I refuse to believe that they could not give us another room with sea view as people were checking out every day... Wi-Fi was very poor............................
We arrived to be upgraded from a garden room to a sea view on floor 7, the room was spotless with dressing gowns and slippers, ample toiletries and tea and coffee etc, fridge hairdryer and safety deposit box. Extra large comfy bed with big pillows and his and hers sinks in the bathroom. The entire hotel staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. All rooms have a sea view, limited I would imagine on the garden rooms. The pools were excellent if a little cold, a small pool, 2 large infinity pools and a medium size pool all on the side of the ocean with two areas where you could get into the sea and swim to the pontoons. There was a table and a brolly for every two sun loungers and you never had to worry about getting a sunbed. We were given two pool cards on arrival and you literally swap them each day as you go to the pool. We drank in the pool side bar every day and was really shocked at how cheap the bill for the week was. We only ate in Sabor @ mar once but it was good. We didn't use the Spa area but walked through it and it looked fantastic, We only ate in the buffet restaurant a few times, the egg station in the morning was great, always a varied choice of a night, there was roast beef, roast pork and steak on the occasions we ate there and lots of different veg. We used the dine around option they offer that gives you a choice of a set menu at the various restaurants or a 15 euro credit per person. All together we had a brilliant relaxing time at the Vidamar, Would highly recommend this hotel
Just returned from a glorious week, we paid extra for a sea view room overlooking the sea. Our room was spotless & was well maintained by the same maid throughout our stay. The food was consistently good catering for all diets with a large variety of different choices to please all. Pool areas maintained along with daily swimming aerobics for all to join in along with a very good pool dining area for lunch. The staff were always obliging and it being our first trip to Madeira they were very knowledgable in helping you. I can't that the Hotel Vidamar enough for providing us with a 1st class hotel. We will definitely return in 2018.
Always friendly service, Beautiful Swimmingpool. The location is perfect. The sea view is invaluable. You can eat inside or outside. The terace have a great view. The possibility that you can choose between 3 restaurants is great. We would stay at this hotel again
