We have enjoyed several visits to this lovely hotel. We had a high floor room with lovely views towards Funchal and a spacious patio balcony. It was my wife’s birthday and the hotel delivered a wonderful cake plus sparkling wine to our room . We ate out at different restaurants, which is always enjoyable but by far the best meal was in the Rose garden restaurant in the hotel. Superb food and service. This hotel is a superb combination of lovely facilities,excellent service and very comfortable rooms Building work was not an issue
This hotel was top notch in every sense of the word. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed the service was excellent and very personal. The facilities were fine and everything was spotlessly clean and always fully functioning. The wifi was easy to access and didn't keel over once in our ten day stay. A word of warning though the breakfast is a veritable feast and it was so easy to wrack up the calories with lovely cakes and breads not to mention the cooked options. There is however a full range of fruits and yoghurt on offer. The breakfast buffet is kept fully replenished through to the very last. One thing that worried us before we went was the notice we were given about building work at the hotel. You hardly ever hear this and you'll not see it unless you go looking for it as it is well away from the main hotel. In addition we were given 10 euros a day each as compensation which was a nice gesture and enabled us to work our way through the impressive list of cocktails without wracking up a huge bill.
Picked this hotel after a lot of research and glad I did. Went for superior sea views rooms great hair dryer poor but otherwise large comfortable room free wine and soft drinks . Great breakfast coffee was only poor item ? Kept hot and decanted bars good went to restaurant rose gardens one night Sunday ok but probably worst meal of holiday bother cafes bars food better . However hotel and facilities lovely pools spa etc and would go back if went back to maidera
Another return visit to the Cliff Bay, and as good as ever. Even though our room looked out over the harbour, we did not find the building works intrusive, just our view. A few insect bites which was a first, but we haven't been in October before, and it was hot. There are a load of good reasons to stay here, and the staff probably head the list. A fantastic team.
The Cliff Bay is amazing and well deserving of every one of the five stars that it has. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were made welcome. All the staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. We had land view rooms and it was nice we were put next to each other even though we hadn’t requested it beforehand and it was two separate bookings. The rooms seem even bigger than they look in the pictures on the hotel’s website. The breakfast was delicious every morning, and it was nice to have a large selection of fresh fruit at breakfast every day. We are already planning to go back next year.
This hotel warrants its 5 star rating. The check in process is slick, if you are a returning guest they know it, luggage is almost always in your room by the time you get there. Rooms are clean and well presented. Rose garden restaurant serves a buffet style dinner, but to a high standard, Friday is seafood evening which is the best, lots of choices. Gala d"or restaurant is the only 2 star Michelin restaurant in Madeira, it fully deserves its rating, whilst not cheap is a culinary experience not to be missed. All staff are helpful and polite, nothing is too much trouble. I can really recommend this hotel, it feels more like an oasis, compared to the run of the mill.
We have already stayed at this Hotel in January 2017 and this was our 2nd visit this year. We arrived early before 12 noon and were offered a free room upgrade from the Junior Suite we had booked to the Atlantic Suite with fantastic Sea Views on the 8th floor. What a start to a fantastic holiday. Staff at this Hotel cater for your every need! You will find it difficult to find a better location and better service anywhere else We decided to try the Hotel Prestige Package and receive complimentary two meals per week in the Michelin Star Il Gallo D’Oro restaurant and breakfast each morning Wow ! Fantastic views, superb service! Breakfast in Paradise ! Well Done Cliff Bay ! We have already booked our third visit for next year and cannot wait to return and enjoy our afternoon beer on the Terrace
As said back again at the Cliff Bay, yes some things have changed in a year but nothing that affects its appeal to us for a relaxing holiday break. I had read that building works were now under way, we found no issue with noise or anything else due to this, that is unless you stand watching at the edge of the building site! This time we found quite a lot of new staff as well as the old die hards, I do feel in the restaurant some of the new staff did not have the interest that we normally experience, then again some really did a great job. The new verandah extension to the Rose Garden restaurant is a nice touch. Nothing else to say but see you in 2018 Cliff Bay.
Our fifth visit to this wonderful hotel. The ambience is tranquil, quiet, and assured. The staff are attentive but not intrusive. The rooms are always spotless and tastefully appointed, all with views of interest. The architecture is a superb balance between modern structure and colonial visual accents. The bars and rose garden are a favourite where you can spend many comfortable hours. Can't wait until our next visit.
We recently returned from two weeks staying at this hotel (October/November). Madeira was new to us but is a wonderful location. We made the most of the sea (in it and on it!) but the inland parts of this island are also stunningly beautiful. All the people we met were very friendly and helpful, and most people speak English at a good level. We stayed in a standard sea view room, with nearly 180 degrees of Atlantic Ocean stretching out before us. The room was more than adequate, with a balcony big enough for the two of us to sit on with drinks, books, or whatever. The bathroom was great, with two basins, WC, bidet, bath and separate shower. Everything was immaculately clean. The hotel was perfect for our needs. With quite a stressful working life, running our own family business, we wanted to be able to relax immediately and the hotel made this very easy. We booked for B&B only, but decided to take a package to eat in the hotel on 7 of our 14 nights, exploring elsewhere on the other nights. The food was superb, both at breakfast and in the evening, with a vast array of delicious goodies. We really cannot imagine how anyone could be disappointed with the variety, freshness, colour, tastiness of everything on offer. Far too many items to mention, but they included a huge variety of delicious fruits, meats, vegetables, desserts, etc etc. We simply could not fault the food. The setting for breakfast and evening meal - the Rose Garden - was also wonderful, with views out across the garden to the huge ocean beyond. Just perfect! We are moderate wine drinkers. To be honest, we were not overwhelmed by the (red) wines we chose. They were perfectly OK, but struck us as a bit pricey for what they were. Neither of us claims to be a wine buff, but we have had wines elsewhere that we have enjoyed more. But in the overall context, this mattered very little. The staff everywhere were friendly and helpful. Those at breakfast and for the evening meals quickly knew our preferences for seating and for coffee/tea etc - a nice touch from a smaller hotel. (We are not tempted by some of the much larger hotels that exist and are being built on the island.) The reception and bar staff were all excellent too. Even the woman who cleaned our room each day got to know us well and gave us an unexpected goodbye hug when we were leaving. Next, the facilities. Two main pools - one half indoors and half out, the other outdoor - plus a small child pool, plus easy access to the sea, with lifeguards on the lookout (also very friendly). The lifeguards also check that everyone by the sea and pool is comfortable, providing umbrellas for shade where required, and drinks are also served there for those who want them. Finally, a word about the finances. We had pre-paid for the hotel, and we chose to pay extra for seven evening meals and for wine. These aside, the only extras were items we specifically requested and wanted - a spa treatment, some drinks in the bars, etc. So there were no hidden catches. Altogether, we rate this hotel as excellent. Such a complex establishment to run, but they have got it down to a fine art. Great location, great staff, great facilities, great food ... . What more can you ask for?
