Check in was efficient and our cases were taken to our room. The bedroom was huge with a fabulous sea view and a lovely bathroom with twin showers. Music and telephone in the bathroom was a bit of an overkill. The room was in need of a little T&C but this took nothing away from our enjoyment. Room service was very good. The food at breakfast was varied and tasty. Evening meals were OK but I would recommend B&B as there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The music in the evening was good but few people were in to hear it.
We experienced a very nice stay in this hotel. Our initial room had superb sea views, but was directly over the restaurant so a little noisy (but very conveniently located to pool and restaurant). The very helpful staff had no problem relocating us to a different room. Rooms have decent storage (good hanging space, some drawer space and a safe). Both rooms that we experienced had a small fridge, a decent little tv with good channel selection. Good (reasonably quiet) air-con in-room, with easy thermostat control. Bathrooms were fine, with showers in-bath, but good space around the sink for two people to arrange toiletries. Shower gel / shampoo / soap was provided by the hotel and smelled pretty nice. Decent towels, including dedicated pool towels were provided, and maid service was very good. Beds were fine, if a bit on the soft side, and the pillows could be a bit firmer too. Highlight of the room was the comfortable balcony with amazing sea views (if your room has sea view, some have limited or no-view at all!). The pool area is really comfortable with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. Breakfast was very nice, a good selection of warm and cold items, including freshly prepared fried eggs, omelets and waffles. Lunch was available by the pool, dinner was available as both buffet and a la carte. Buffet nights were themed, we enjoyed the Portuguese themed night (including the local entertainment / dancing), other nights were less inspired food-wise. If you go half-board and plan to eat away for dinner, you can swap dinner for lunch on the following day. Overall, we found the hotel to be very comfortable, with helpful staff at the front-desk and in the restaurants, and would be very happy to stay here again.
Very impressive. We didn't like the first room offered as there was no sea view but they offered us two alternatives and one was right on the corner with fantastic views. This did have a smaller bathroom and was right over the bar and dining room but neither caused us problems. The main pool is great, huge and and not over full but this was November. Plenty of good restaurants around in short walk away. Breakfast is good, all staff are friendly. Rooms cleaned well. It could do with some tlc and maintenance but it is so busy that we needed to book an extra night due to Monarch airlines collapse but the hotel was fully booked, we had to move to another Pestana hotel for one night. Gym, indoor pool and jacuzzi all there if you are inclined to that. We chose the Promenade because of its location. It is a good walk into Funchal but be aware, all walks are hilly in Madeira. You can get into the sea for a swim but the best spots are taken up by lido's where you have to pay but there is one spot close with plenty of fish to sea if you go snorkelling. We would definitely go back.
Pestana Promendes locates close to sea. The place has rooms for hotel guests (two first floors) and timeshare owners. Restaurant offers tasty breakfast and dinner. During daytime meals are availble at a pool baar. This hotel can be recommended for families. This hotel has only two lifts, which might cause some delay during busy hours, because lifts locgic does not work properly. Spa department is excelent including indoor pool.
We stayed at the hotel in October for a week before moving to our timeshare down the road! We did enjoy our stay-the room was comfortable but definitely needs redecoration. The sea view was excellent and we thought the pools both indoor and outdoor were very good-we were lucky because the weather was hot and sunny. Our main concern was the breakfast congestion. We had to keep going up to food and drink counters to collect different items and it really was very cramped. We think the whole service area could be opened up more to avoid any congestion-and it would be helpful if coffee and tea was served at table by a waiter as at the Pestana Grand. Evening meals were good with a good choice of meat and fish. We weren't sure who the evening entertainers were performing to. We liked to sit in the foyer seating area, not the bar which had limited comfortable seating-but the performers were then some distance away. Not sure how you could solve this problem! But overall we had a very good time-staff were excellent.
I had originally booked two nights, but extended this by a further night. I had explained this prior to our trip and received an email back to confirm that we were booked in the same room for the three nights, and also confirmed that we had paid in full. However on arrival we were only booked in for the first two nights. The receptionist found the booking for the additional night but asked us to pay for this? I pointed out that I had paid and the full booking and payment had been confirmed by the hotel in writing? The receptionist said to leave it with her, and when we came back to check into our room she said that she had read the emails and it was all sorted! However, when the third day arrived our key cards no longer worked and we were told that we had been checked out? It took two visits to reception to get the cards working again! Not the best admin to say the least. I have given a five rating, despite this, as all other aspects of the hotel were very good. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the single a la carte meal we had in the restaurant was very good. Staff were very good, particularly Ana in the restaurant and Deck Bar. Liked the indoor pool and the grounds were very pleasant and well cared for. Our room on the first floor was excellent and very large, with comfortable furniture, and a large sea view balcony. The bathroom was one of the largest I have ever seen in a hotel, with an excellent shower and full sized bath. We used the gate to the promenade a few times and ate out at a couple of excellent local restaurants. The Goya and Sis's, both first class. Overall a very good hotel, apart from the admin problem?
We stayed in the Pestana Promenade recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are all amazing - they certainly are a strong selling point of this property as I don’t think we came across one member who was anything less than pleasant. We chose superior sea view rooms and were pleased with the size and location. Our request of interconnecting was also granted. The views from our balconies were awesome. The rooms in general are clean and comfortable, however could do with a lick of paint and some general maintenance to improve the anticipated standard. Breakfast was served in a light and spacious area with a good selection of breakfast items. You could also dine outside which was appealing. The pools looked amazing, however there is some maintenance required to the grating around the edge (as mentioned in another review) as this is dangerous and we saw a few people during our stay that went straight through it and one gentleman injure himself requiring First Aid. So please be careful! One side of the pool has been replaced but the other side needs to be done ASAP - I understand there has been a dispute with the supplier over the matter, however this should not be allowed to have an impact on guest safety and I would have thought something come be done in the interim. If more people were using the pool I think there would have been more accidents. However the pool temperatures were quiet as they were rather cold and sadly not solar heated as I was previously advised, which was disappointing but we didn’t allow this to affect our stay too much. The indoor pool was always a pleasant temperature but nevertheless not the same! There are a lot of timeshare owners in the hotel and they were all very friendly too. I would say the hotel is more appealing to older families and adults only but we were certainly welcomed and felt as such. The location is good, in the Lido area of Funchal. A few nice restaurants within 5 mins walk out the front of the hotel or from the back along the Promenade. Leeno’s restaurant is a must! We found taxis outside the hotel most of the time and we took advantage of these to travel into Funchal centre a few times. Cost approx €8-10. To surmise, the Pestana Promenade is a clean, comfortable and welcoming hotel in a great area. Addressing the maintenance issues would increase my rating to 5* as these are the only disappointments we could find during our stay. I would certainly recommend the property.
Just back from this hotel. I notice a review that said not a lot of children. There were quite a few children of varying ages when I was there and also different ages of families. I was in room 1243 which was an apartment with a wraparound balcony with 4 sun loungers, table and 4 chairs. The view from the balcony was spectacular. I didn't use the restaurant but there are loads of well priced restaurants nearby. I booked all of my trips with Rita at customer relations and she was so helpful. She recommended the lavada walk with afternoon tea which was excellent. Guide was Rita and she was so knowledgeable about the area and after the walk we went back to her house for afternoon tea which was all homemade. We were also introduced to her husband and son. A must to do. Some people have commented on there only being 2 lifts but I never had any trouble getting 1. It would have been good if there had been as bigger shop in the hotel. Didn't use the bus as I had family staying at another hotel and used to walk there and then go on into Funchal.Taxis are numerous and cheap. Also did the west and east tour but as they were booked through the hotel I don't what company was used. All excellent and the drivers had great sense of humour and very knowledgeable.
Hotel Pestana promenade is a nice hotel in Funchal just a couple of stair steps from a promenade along the ocean. We come with our daughter of 1yo and got a cosy room with a spectacular sea view from a cute little balcony. It was just a couple more families with children beside us at the hotel, all the others were elder couples in their 70s and more :) So if you are out after lively/fun/party hotel life - chose another hotel. There is a restaurant at the hotel and we had a dinner there once. The food was not bad, but boring and not so much taste. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes within walking distance from the hotel so unless it’s really bad weather or you are tired - go just a few meters and you will find all type of restaurants and cafes. The staff at hotel’s restaurant are superb!! Very friendly and help-some! Our daughter got a lot of attention, they took great care of us and were very predictable with all help we needed. All in all - good hotel close to everything.
The best thing about this Hotel is the views from the balcony, sitting watching the sun go down was fantastic, the room itself was comfortable enough although the furniture in our room seemed a little tired and possibly due for replacing. The other thing we found strange about the room was the window between the bedroom and bathroom (rollerblind to ensure privacy though), and this was the first Hotel we have stayed in where there were no tea/coffee making facilities provided in the room (unusual for a 4* Hotel). The reception area was modern and clean with a view over the pools and the sea. Breakfast was a buffet style with a varied choice with everything from a cooked breakfast to continental style including hams, fruit, cheese etc. The hotel has direct access to a promenade which has cafes/restaurants along it or you can just stroll along admiring the views, the hotel is also on various bus routes and both the Yellow Bus Tour and City Sightseeing Tours (Hop On/Off) also stop outside the hotel. Taxis are reasonable into Funchal and there is usually one or two sat outside during the day. We enjoyed our stay here, especially the balcony views, would recommend
