Booked 2 weeks as a Timeshare exchange. From the airport we caught the Aerobus which stops directly outside the hotel (approx 30 mins travel time) costs 16 Euros return for 2 people. Slightly longer on the return journey as more people to pick up. A Taxi is approx 25 Euros each way & shared Mini Bus apron 15 each way. If you do arrive at the bus stop as opposed to getting a taxi etc direct to the door, go in via the separate small gate at the right of the main driveway, walk through the corridor and get the lift to level 2. This will save pulling your cases up the fairly steep cobbled driveway. Check-in was fine, and friendly. We were booked on the 4th floor 7402 facing the hills etc. On balance we would have probably preferred one facing the pool area, but no complaints it was very quiet and suited us fine. The room was a 1 bed sleeps 4 with a nice lounge, small kitchen, bathroom and separate bedroom and 2 balconies. Flat screen TV in the lounge, ac in both lounge and bedroom, free safe in wardrobe. Our balconies were not really for sunbathing due to the space and sun on one was early morning till about 11.30 and the other caught the end of the day from about 5.30. We ate breakfast on our balcony every morning which was good. Table and 2 chairs on 1 balcony and 2 lounger chairs on the other. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen and a combo microwave (an oven would have been nice though) The rooms were cleaned, bins emptied and beds made every day and our room was spotless. The lounge had a kitchen table with 2 chairs, 2 lounge chairs and a settee which was ample for our needs - all fixtures and fittings were fine and well maintained. WiFi was free and available in the Reception and pool area (not in the room) although I found the pool area signal a bit flaky with my phone. The pool are was great, we arrived most mornings about 9.30 - 10.00 and always available sunbeds plus the pool staff we excellent with the umbrellas at setting them up and adjusting them for you (free of charge). The gardens are really great to see. The Miramar has a sister hotel "The Village" which is next door and you can just use all of their facilities just the same as your own. We bought local bus passes (the 1,2 & 4 buses pick up and stop outside the hotel) and very cost effective. You can also just pay on the bus. We usually walked into Town and got the bus back to avoid the hill.Owner relations sell the passes and you can top them up at any tobacconists in Town. This was a great relaxing holiday & the hotel ideally situated.
Had a fantastic 2week stay at the mirimar Rooms cleaned daily room was dated but spotless. Everyone was so friendly breakfast was excellent. Drinks prices but we expected this.view from balcony was disappointing as plants almost take over balcony obscuring view did not enjoy sitting out on it! Was offered other room but also had no view & no air con. But overall a very enjoyable holiday.
Stayed in a Miramar suite (6101) 3rd - 14th July 2017. 2 lovely rooms in the old block. Great L shaped terrace with stunning pool, garden and sea views. All staff attentive and helpful. Good choice and quality of food at breakfast (didn't try dinner as lots of tempting restaurants nearby). Would definitely recommend Miramar and Pestanta hotels.
A la carte Restuarant at the Miramar last night where we experienced excellent food and service. The ambience of the Restuarant was restful which added to the enjoyment. Nothing was too much trouble -head waiter treated us extremely well as usual
Enjoyed our stay here with our 2 children, room cleaned daily, towels provided, and air conditioning, kitchenette with 2 hobs, kettle and fridge. Staff all friendly and helpful. Only negatives I'd say.... 👉🏻The frame of the pull out bed was broken so, although it could be slept on, it was uncomfortable and sitting on one side made the other side fly up. 👉🏻After having to lift the end of pull-out bed up (my sons toy car went under it) we found a (quite thick) layer of dust under it (it was already pulled out and set up when we got there) 👉🏻Could do with some meal-sized plates in cupboards, eating a full meal off a side plate was a bit difficult Otherwise really happy with it and coming back to the pestana village hotel (next door) later this year
We know this area of Funchal but hadn't stayed at the Pestana Miramar before, just it's sister location on the same site, the Pestana Village. As the apartments in the Miramar overlook the pool there is more noise during the day, but they're larger apartments, so it's a trade off. Everything was lovely and clean, the kitchen area well stocked, the towels white and fluffy - everything just right as you'd expect from Pestana. It was nice being right on the top floor as we still got some views of the city and harbour, though slightly blocked by an errant palm tree You can get a lift straight up from the basement car park so avoiding all stairs - a welcome relief in the heat! No problem with the staff who were all friendly and helpful, booking trips and providing everything we needed. All in all a hassle free trip, though as I say, I might just chose the Village next time, to be away from the direct poolside.
Corner room with full sun on the balcony, very nice thank you Miramar. Very helpful hotel staff on reception each time we went. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. We have been coming to Madeira for 7 years and this has been the nicest stay of all. Our favourite eating places are just around the corner - Pizaria Casa Madeirense and Pastelaria Petit Fours - try them both, the food is consistently delicious.
We elected to enjoy the accommodation, cuisine & self catering and facilities of a Pestana Hotel / Aparthotel. Pestana Group Hotels dominate the island and of course Madeira is the home of the Pestana franchise. The hotel staff were very welcoming, polite and most helpful. Pestana Miramar Garden Resort is idealy located between the old and new part of Funchal - old and new can easily be reached on foot or there is a conveniently located bus stop right outside the hotel. Buses pass the hotel every twenty minutes or so. The hotel staff can advise on where to go on the island and in deed provide discounted vouchers, tickets and special offers for many excursions, outings or trips to places of interest, with a pick-up and drop-off point being at the hotel itself. There are many restaurants to choose from and all competitively priced; some are slightly better than others so advice from hotel staff is recommended and they will also book a table on your behalf. Madeira is a wonderful place to visit to see the vast array of beautiful and exotic flora of all descriptions originally gifted by Christopher Columbus, et al, returning from their travels of discovery. Madeira is not really suited for a family seeking the traditional sandy beach holiday - there aren't any! Madeira, I would suggest, is more suited for the more mature, less adventurous, rest, relax and sun seeking clientele with a palate for good food and wine; an apetite for bananas could also be useful, they're grown everywhere.
We have been coming to Madiera now for many years and always have a fabulous time at the Pestana resort. Lovely facilities and very friendly helpful staff. Must mention Big Bruno always happy helpful and full of fun.
We were extremely impressed with the hotel on arrival, it is a beautiful hotel with stunning landscaping and a very grand entrance. The staff were all very helpful, and we had no problem with wi-fi access like some of the other reviewers. We booked a Junior suite, and although the room was spacious I was disappointed that the kitchen was so small - there was a double hob, no microwave or toaster, one saucepan and only 3 cups / saucers and side plates, even though we were a family of 4. Difficult when catering for young children who don't always want to eat out! The room was clean, the bed the most comfortable I have ever slept in...however like other reviews, we were disappointed with the view and lack of sun on the balcony. The pools were amazing, the children loved them - there are some benefits to staying in a hotel that caters for the older generation.... Most evenings we were the only ones in it 😀 We hadn't expected to pay 5€ per day to use the car park, this wasn't explained by the tour operator when we hired the car. Would also recommend going for something a bit more powerful than a 1200 Micra if intending to tour and go up the mountains... We almost had to get out and push it on one occasion!!! We were lucky enough to be there for the Classic Motor Exhibition last weekend which was directly outside the hotel - not quite Monaco, but it was a fun day. Initially I was disappointed, having looked at the views from the hotel rooms on the web site, carefully choosing what I believed to be a room that would offer self catering opportunities and subsequently having neither.... However, we had a lovely family holiday - it was the cleanest and most quiet hotel I have stayed in. A memorable hotel and gorgeous views from most of the hotel (just not it appears, from room 6301!)
