This hotel is perfect. Location is fantastic for views of the Atlantic and also close Funchal( 10 minutes walk). There are many bars and restaurants to choose from within the hotel, and the food is excellent!!.. All staff from the cleaners to management make you feel so special and welcoming!!.. The rooms are cleaned daily and what beautiful rooms they are!!.. we had a junior suite.. fantastic!!.. it was my wife’s 50th Birthday treat!!.. but must admit it was a fantastic treat for both of us!!.. If you want perfection.. this is the place to go!!.. thankyou Pestana for a memorable holiday!!
Arrived 30th Jan flight departed Gat 07.00 arrived via Porto due to being unable to land arrived 31st Jan at 15.00 -28 hours? Funchal is in the top ten of airports for airport closure in the world. So think again if only planning a quick break you may never land! That said once you are here it is beautiful. The Carnival is fantastic as so the flower festival. Take the local bus from the airport €6 p p taxi = €33. Anyway to the hotel. Book a sea viwFrom Jan-Jun 19 building work planned for the time share apartments. On the 1/2/18 the indoor pool was freezing, all the windows open, complaints and then it was warmer but today 9/2/18 windows open and too cold for children. Jacuzzi broken fir 4 days
We had booked a week here through Expedia for a sea-view room. When we checked in we were upgraded to a suite on the 18th floor at no extra cost. As my wife is in a wheelchair, they also allowed us to park our hire car in their car park for no charge (it is normally chargeable). Our room had amazing views over the harbour and sea. There was building work on the new Savoy hotel next door but this was not particularly intrusive from our room. The buffet breakfast was very good with lots of choice. All the staff were extremely helpful thorughout our visit. We would definitely stay in this hotel again
We were invited to this location as guests with a view to view a Time Share. What a disappointment. We were met at reception and given a confeluteted map to our apartment. When we eventually got there by two lifts and various corridors we went into a 1970’s apartment . Dark, dingy, worn , tired ,wonky bed and dark furniture, Dismal !! We stayed one evening. Our Customer Service Manager arriveved and was horrified. So to cut a very long & dismal story short we were taken to a very chic & modern apartment which was fabulous. So thank you for a dismal start and a happy end.
I found the hotel to be warm, friendly clean. Its 5* only on Portugese standards[as you would expect].The photos Advertising it are a little glossed up.The entrance is not as swish in pics.Great location, not too hilly compared to other hotels.Nice breakfast,Great views.Nice staff.Irish pubs have absolutely no craic.Moynihans have no music at any time as their singer went to Australia and they cannot get another irish singer. There is very little Irish about Hole in one.Its just masquerading as an Irish pub for custom.Cable car ride was fun.Funchal is a nice city.
The Pestana Carlton Hotel is in an excellent location in Funchal with a variety of restaurants in close proximity. Our room was on the 17th floor with a beautiful sea view. We didn't experience any disturbances at all. The room was generally cleaned whilst we had breakfast. The choice of food at breakfast was excellent as was the service. Overall my experience was excellent and I recommend this hotel to you.
Ask for sea view room, it's worth it. Good plentiful breakfast with something to suit everyone. Even a free glass of bubbly to start off the day. Outdoor pools ,as would be expected in January/February, quite cold but the 2 indoor pools more than make up for this
Great location, pleasant staff, great views from room, lobby, library and dining area. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very clean rooms and spacious bathroom. Desk staff helpful with orientation and transport issues.
We attended a traditional wedding in Madeira and choose to stay at this hotel for 3 nights. It’s advertised as “5 Stars” but is far from it. This place is huge with plenty facilities, however it is poorly maintained with lots of outdated furnitures, painting, carpets, sun-chairs, etc. It wasn’t full season and we paid £90 per night, we asked kindly (5 months before) for a quite room but we were given one next to the service landing, lift, facing the main road and an enormous building site. We did not have a single full night sleep because of the noise (club music until 4 AM, motorcycles raving every 5 minutes and so on). I approached the Reception twice: 1) asking for an iron and board ( I was shortly sent away to press 14 from my room and order one but slowed only to use it for one hour) 2) complaining about the noise ( I was asked to come back next day) ; on both occasions I wasn’t even asked for my room number. So I gave up as I didn’t want to argue, make a fuss and ruin my mood. Breakfast: good quality buffet with automatic coffee machines (instant stuff). Restaurant and Bar: expensive and nothing special. There are plenty of traditional Madeira Testaurant our in town with more for much less. Poor entertainment. This is a beautiful island but next time we will make sure to choose a better place.
We generally avoid large hotels of any standard wherever we can, finding them just too regimented not to mention expensive. However, we we booked here by EasyJet after a bad weather flight cancellation. We were allocated a nice suite with fabulous views so no complaints there. Had I been paying the £300+ nightly fee there are a couple of issues I might want to raise - TV provision was rather second rate ( esp lack of UK channels and the bedroom Set would have been sent to the skip 15 years ago). Buffet (lunch, dinner and breakfast) were all just ok in terms of quality. The service was friendly which is more than could be said for that in the Pub the following morning when trying to find a soft drink for the terrace! Lots of building going on all around which does generate noise when outside. Overall this was a very generous provision by EasyJet and given the short notice an excellent response by Pestana. Thanks.
