Good facilities. Really good pool area and well looked after. A staff that work till their arms and legs falls off and still smiling. Good free shuttle service to town. The room is large and has a great balcony, but the carpet is old and stained, and the tv is probably the oldest TV set still working and after January 1st. only Portuguese channels. Then the “all inclusive”: Arriving for lunch, a lunch that should suite everyone. But. Yes but: no love added to any of the food, that goes for lunch and dinner both. Breakfast. A tasty bacon, unfortunately only dipped in hot oil for for a second or two. And there is more, but I withstood the temptation to try it. Found a really good freshly baked bread, and tried the 4 different variations of sliced cheese. I could taste no difference at all. In a region with a lot of great tasty fruit, it is a shame that only the local banana stands out. The rest is sad looking and boring. I think that it is the first time that I will loose weight during a vacation - if I was not rescued by other great restaurants in town. Coffee? If you like coffee, I recommend that bring your own instant coffee. A lot of the guests seems to find it ok. I’m sorry to be a snob in these matters, but my life is too short for sad food. Could I please save the money or pay more and get food made with love from good local products.
We have stayed in many Pestana hotels before and this is not the most beautiful but lovely non-the-less. It is slightly isolated being at the bottom of a hill - there is a bar just at the end of the drive way which so great cocktails, live music and lovely food. The pool area was very busy and if you went out for the day and came back around lunch, you would struggle to find a bed. Out of the hotel at the back towards the sea, there is a wooden path that goes through the mountain (amazing) to a lido where you can rent beds for the day and swim in the sea - definitley recommend this - there is also a small mall there with shops etc. The beach is rather large pebbles but pretty. Still a beautiful hotel.
Nice hotel with pleasant staff in 'beach' location. Room spacious, grounds attractive, great sea view. Bit far from centre of Funchal but hotel shuttle very convenient. Food wasn't spectacular but good choice and plenty on offer. Usual all inclusive drinks selection but spoiled a little by cocktails coming from a machine rather than being mixed manually. No indoor pool and outdoor pool claimed to be heated but would hate to have found it unheated if that was heated ! Evening entertainment wasn't too dynamic but Madeira folklore show worth seeing.
The hotel is in a quite location. All rooms overlook the sea. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Rooms clean and free WiFi in all of the hotel. Food very good quality and plenty of it. Coach transport into Funchal free daily.
We booked an all inclusive package with Jet2 Holidays, we always enjoy these packages but you have to remember, all inclusive is a cheap option for a good holiday, the food is never going to be top notch, the accommodation always good but average, If you want the best of everything you have to dine out at restaurants, book 5* hotels, use the non-budget airlines and basically pay for what you want. It is like everything in life and all about value for money. This hotel is definitely value for money and punches above expectations. We booked a suite so had a super large Balcony, large living room, good sized dining area with table and four chairs, kitchen area with 2 burner hob, and fridge. The living area is comfortable, with 2 seat settee and armchair, an old but adequate television which has multiple channels including one that shows 24/7 English movies. The Balcony is double the size of all the other balconies and has a table with chairs, excellent views of the sea, beach and promenade. The main bedroom is 2 single beds clamped together which are comfortable and do the job perfectly an abundance of pillows available which I like, bathrobes for 2 people and bath slippers, there is an en-suite bathroom with bath (shower over bath) sink and toilet, shoe shine kit, shower gel, shampoo and soap sachets are replaced daily when required. There is a second bathroom of equal size and facilities next to the lounge there is a second TV in the bedroom. Towels are plentiful and again replaced daily when required and there are four beach towels provided. The rooms are equipped with hairdryers. Over the years we have found that what makes a hotel stay a good stay or a bad stay is the Staff, the best 5* the lowly no star hotel can have problems or need a little TLC now and again but how the staff treat you and react to your needs is what can make your holiday the best it can be, the Staff at this hotel are excellent from the housemaids to Reception Staff and the dining room staff, always cheerful and polite, always ready to help. The cleaners seemed genuinely disappointed when we did not need a room serviced and always did an excellent job when we did, the dining room staff are like bees, always there to take away used crockery, clean used tables, top up the hot plates, even when we were late for a meal and close to the closing time they smiled and did not make us feel like "oh damn there is always one when we are trying to get cleared away". The bar staff are always efficient and pleasant. The food itself was average for "all inclusive" but that is not a derogatory statement, average is good bearing in mind it is never going to be restaurant quality, never cooked to order and a more limited menu, everyday there were a number of main course options with one or two of them cooked fresh on the griddle, a good selection of salad/side choices and all you would expect for a 3 course meal at every sitting. Baby High Chairs are available in the Dining Room. Though not to our taste the entertainment in the evening is very good for the older clients that the hotel attracts in the December months. The gardens are nicely laid out and a good sized swimming pool with adequate seating (sunbeds), other facilities include a gym, TV room, Giant Chess board, Library, Spa facilities and everything else you would expect to find in a 4* hotel. There is a small shop in the foyer selling souvenirs but not much else, a courtesy bus will take you into town and bring you back to a schedule but as we had hired a car for our 10 day stay we did not use this so cannot comment on how good it is. Views from the rooms and the patio are fantastic, you can watch the sunset every night though the mountain blocks a view of the sunrise. As it was December it was nice to see all areas of the hotel seasonally decorated with Christmas Trees and lights especially the lovely little bridge and fish pond outside reception. There is adequate free parking and the free Wifi gives a good strong and fast signal in all areas of the hotel, there is a computer desk for public use in the reception area. The location is excellent, on the beach (rocky beach) with a walkway which leads you to a sandy beach to the right and to the left a tunnel takes you to a number of Restaurants and view points. In summary, we loved our stay here made all the better by the efficiency, attitude and general conduct of ALL the Staff. Suggestions, the Televisions being upgraded to flat screen would be a bonus and a microwave oven in the dining room and in the suites would make them extra special. The food can be a little cooler than you would prefer after it has been on the hotplate for a while so a microwave to add that "30 second boost" would solve that problem.
Fine hotel with all-inclusive. Nice, close to the beach and hotel-bus to the city (Funchal). Fine rooms with adequate space to the suitcase and the things we always use on holidays. Fine service to the meals.
Excellent hotel, very good rooms, top food and a staff-service above what we expected. The seeview was fantastic in the evenings. A relaxed athmosphere made us very comfortable. But the noise from the see was loud and gave us trouble with sleeping.
A very comfortable and welcoming Hotel. Lovely Gardens, very attractive and perfectly positioned by the sea. Excellent choice of food. A daily bus is provided to transport you into the pictureque town of Funchal.
Good Food, Great Location. Regular Courtesy Hotel Bus into Funchal. (approx.20 minites journey time), a great asset..Would recommend this Hotel. The Pastana chain of Hotels are of a Very Good standard. Very enjoyable.
A great hotell, very helpful and friendly staff, plenty of tasty food and drink. A quiet end-of-a-road location on Praia Formosa wit all rooms having a sea view. Our room was neat, comfortable and well appointed with daily maid service. We stayed there for a forthnight to relax and celebrate my husbands birthday. Our friends joined us there for a week and the reception made sure they got a room next to us. The Hotell gifted the birthday boy with a bottle of champagne and booked us a table to a local fish restaurant with complementary taxi ride there and back. There is also a complementary bus service hourly from the Hotel to Funchal town centre. Should you feel particularly energetic, the coastal walk to town is approx. 12 km return. The Hotel has a sauna, fitness room, a pool, a jacuzz and a Wellness center. Live entertainment most nights. In addition to the plentiful food, there was an Italian restaurant (bookable) downstairs with waiter service and basic but very tasty fair.
