Very much enjoyed my holiday and this hotel played a big part in that. The staff was excellent in giving advice and recommendations anyone who stays here I reccomend talk to the receptionist. They always have good deals for an example we was driven to the mountains for free to an restaurant and was given a cheap brilliant tour which was thanks to the staff. I reccomend people read the brochures and stay good with staff. We stayed in appartment next to the main hotel. Size was big but toliet was very dirty we have an very very old tv. Bath was so dirty I only felt comfortable showering in it. Bed was rock hard. But very cheap. Overall residencial Colombo has good staff and can give you advice to improve your holiday dramatically only problem is room is very dirty but it is In a good location and everything is walking distance very good value for price as long as you don’t mind a dirty bath

Staff very friendly and helpful. Central position in the old town.lovely outside area for relaxing. within walking distance to the port. Central for supermarket, restaurants, shops and gardens.Ideal place for a holiday.

In the begging is it fair to say what we were looking for. We wanted someting cheap, but clean. Located as close to the marina and city centre as possible. And we got it. The Residencial is just few streets from the centre and the marina ( our aim was to start early in the morning to catch the cruise to Porto Santo in a walking distance). The room was clean and sufficiently equiped. The stuff very kind. BUT we found the bed very small ( I think smaller than a queen size bed). So if you travell in a pair - I recommend to order a twin room.

I stayed in an apartment in a separate building round the corner from the main hotel. The apartment was very spacious and the bed was spotlessly clean. However, the apartment itself wasn't cleaned very well. After walking around in my bare feet for about 10 minutes, the soles of my feet were black! There was also dangerous electrics. The electric socket for the cooker was hanging off the wall and the electric cable was taped with masking tape through which you could see bare electric wires. However, on the plus side, the location of the hotel was brilliant - just a short walk from the sea front and surrounded by loads of shops. There was a great supermarket just 3 or 4 minutes walk from the hotel. The receptionists, Suzi and Raquel, were great and were so helpful. The breakfast was basic but there was plenty of it and it was served on a lovely sun terrace. If you're planning getting a taxi from the airport, I would recommend that you pre-book one before you arrive. Madeira Airport Transfers only charge 7 euros for a pre-booked car. If you get one from the main taxi queue it's 32 euros. All in all, I would definitely return to this hotel as for about £160 per week it was excellent value for money. I just hope the electrics are updated by the time I go back!

Stayed for 5 days. Hotel is basic, but kept very clean. I am unable to fault this hotel for the price. Centrally located so great for bars and restaurants.Parking can be difficult, but 24hr car around the corner, but don't use if you have a large car as very narrow. Would definitely recommend if you are after a low budget stay.

Stayed in an apartment in a separate building so can't comment on the 'main' hotel which looked nicer. Apartment was very dated, no balcony and kitchenette had poor facilities. It appeared in the past there had been a leak affecting the ceiling which dropped plaster onto part of the kitchenette worktop. The shower was good, and a maid came in every day to change towels and empty the bin. Best was the location which was good for going out around the old part of Funchal and to the La Vie shopping center where there was a supermarket.

This hotel is a gem very reasonably priced very clean linen and room cleaned daily basic but tasty breakfast, if you like small friendly and relaxed hotels this is for you, excellent location step out and you're in the heart of the old town with restaurants a couple of minutes away and the sea front ten minutes away. The rooms are variable and basic but everything was adequate with hot powerful showers clean linen the bed was ok, you are left to get on with your holiday in peace.

Stayed for 4 nights. The hotel is basic but clean. Perfectly situated in the old town at foot reach of restaurants, harbour and shops. Excellent value for money with friendly and helpful staff. Worth having a room on the front of the hotel, with a balcony. Breakfast served on the top floor on a terrace peeping over the roofs towards the sea.

I've given this 3 stars but had there been wifi in the rooms I would have given an extra star. Management say the lack of wifi is due to renovation work - they need to get this sorted. Wifi is available in reception and on th 5th floor where breakfast is served. The hotel is ideally situated as it's walking distance to everywhere in Funchal, though buses are close by too. Breakfast basic but fresh. For those who review it as noisy, dark and dingy, it's value for money and you won't get 5 star if you are paying for 2 star.

Stayed here during a three day work visit to the island. Payed 25 Euros per night using Expedia (5 euros off the Booking website rate). I stayed in a double bed room in the main building with breakfast included in the rate. Good proximity to the city center. I was not driving, hence I'm not sure whether parking would have been easy. The bathroom is dated, just as the website's pictures show, but functional. The walls of the room are sort of paper thin, so come prepared with ear buds if you're having trouble sleeping. There is also not so great sound proofing of the outside noise. Just in the building opposite there is a bar with games room. The breakfast is minimal but of good quality (no expresso though). The breakfast room is the highlight of the place, offering a nice view of city, hills and sea. Although I wouldn't stay here during a vacation, I certainly recommend this hotel for a short stay on a tight budget.
