We have stayed several times in this hotel. Its situation is superb, you can see the liners coming in and out and it is handy for the cable car and all the attractions in Funchal itself. Many of the other hotels are located in the hotel zone and entail a long walk, bus or taxi to get into the town. Hotel is well situated for restaurants if you dine out but we use the hotel buffet dinner and can't fault it. Breakfast is super too. Rooms are well appointed and spotless. We certainly hope to stay here again.

The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Funchal and very convenient for heading out to discover the many restaurants of the Old Town in an evening. The hotel is pristine with very high standards and god quality decor in a muted and traditional style. Breakfast was excellent, there was a good choice of meals and drinks in the pool bar and the staff were always professional and courteous. The rooms was immaculate with plenty of room and the housekeeping standards are high. It's worth upgrading to a sea view room to keep the sun into the evening and sit with a glass of wine watching the world pass by. The demographic of the hotel is more mature and there are a number of elements which cater for them perfectly, including the entertainment and some of the decor - this is not a fault - they know their audience very well. Whilst it maybe felt it was lacking a little in personality this is not to detract from a superior quality and location.

Great location next to beach / old town / transport links - the hotel itself is spot on with nice communal areas and leisure facilities with both outdoor and indoor pool + a roof terrace with hot tub and superb 360 views. We did half board and found the quality of food superb with a good and varied choice every day, all staff throughout the hotel were excellent, very helpful and friendly. We had a ground floor garden room which just had a view of the sea and could not fault it, very clean and kept to a high standard every day - you have a kettle but don't get tea / coffee etc but not an issue as we brought our own. Would stay again but only do breakfast as we want to try places in the old town as there are so many restaurants to choose from and were happy with the ground floor garden room but would like to try a full sea view

This was our 2nd stay at Santa Maria Porto Bay and we enjoyed it just as much this time as the first. The hotel has a has a high class profile spoken out with a subtle tone. All services are friction free. Restaurant, meals and staff ensure your well being throughout the day. The musical entertainment in the bar has high quality and can offer a nice ending to an already good day. The pool area and the garden is wonderful and our room was comfortable and excellently attended to. Children under 18 are not allowed as guests, which suited us well.

Madeira is a beautiful island, we have been in either October, November or March. It has been plenty warm enough, I would not choose to go in the summer months, it would be far too hot. The airport is only a short drive away. These months are the rainy season but after a short downfall it soon dries up again nothing to deter going in these months. We choose to stay in this hotel for its convenience, so near to everything you could wish for. If you stay in other areas of the Island the weather tends not to be so good and you spend half your time (and money) travelling into the old town of Funchal. It is very hilly so you tend to take taxis more, you have to careful with these too, agree your price before taking one. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in this hotel and to be honest I don’t think Madeira is a place children would enjoy, there are no beaches to speak of. I have stayed in better hotels but repeat this one is The most convenient, I think they know that so perhaps it is a little more pricey but worth it.

Great hotel right on the sea front in an excellent location and we had a fabulous room. Staff very helpful and polite. Breakfast kept us going so didn't need lunch. Situated in the Old Town, very close to the Cable Car, great restaurants, shops and harbour. Will be returning!!!!

We booked through Jet2Holidays as usual and were transported via mini bus to the hotel. We had wanted to upgrade to a seaview room but the hotel was full. They did say that after four days they could move us but it wasnt worth the hassle to move again. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and tidy. We had a welcome bowl of fruit awaiting us which was nice. There is a fridge and two ring cooker, not that we cooked! Plenty of plates etc in the cupboard above the sink to use. We loved the evening entertainment in the bar every evening and although there is a lovely restaurant for evening meals we chose b/b and went out to dine in the Old Town venues. It is an adults only hotel and the bonue is that it is in the old town thus on the flat. Like the hotels the other end of Funchall which are uphill. The staff are very friendly and remembered us from our previous visits. Its like coming home! We love Madeira and this hotel and will be returning in August next year.

We stayed at the Porto Santa Maria Hotel for 5 nights and it’s the perfect location for visiting the sights and restaurants in the old town. The rooms are clean and comfortable, we had a room overlooking the square which was great for people watching from the balcony. It has a good bar with live music most nights. Breakfast is very good with a wide selection in a hot and cold buffet. Free Wifi is just about acceptable but we ended up paying €6 a day for a decent speed.

We stayed at the Porto Santa Maria for three nights, prior to returning home after our two weeks at The Residence. It gave us time to spend time in the old town and visit some of the many restaurants there. The location is excellent and the hotel is very friendly and welcoming.

Stayed here with some friends. Very clean hotel. Gardens and pool area excellently maintained. Great bar area and the best happy hour prices I’ve come across. All the staff were excellent. Great location for old town restaurants Highly recommended
