We visited on 4th September, had a lovely studio with sea view ,beautiful clean hotel, with excellent food, and staff. The best bed ever. At breakfast you are met by Lina, a truly professional and lovely lady, who makes you feel very welcome, and always finds you a great table, The food is varied and delicious, we were half board, gourmet night is to die for, do not miss it. The outside bar also has lovely food and staff. This is our first time to Madeira ,and this hotel, we will be back.

Lovely hotel, staff very plesant and helpful. Rooms are large kept very clean , however no turn down service some rooms are having a make over .. breakfast was very good ... because of where the hotel is positioned we ate out at some fantastic restaurants close by. Great swimming pool outside and lots of loungers with an indoor pool and gym. Had a treatment in the spa which was the best massage I've ever had. The gardens are the best feature of this hotel. Well kept excellent. Close to the cable car and a taxi service outside hotel to take you anywhere and not to expensive. Lunch can be taken by the pool or on a patio over looking the sea and the food was excellent. Would I go back not next year but probably in a few years time. Well done Porto Santa Maria.

This is unbeatable - although a relatively small and intimate hotel, the standard is excellent. It is well situated in the "Old Town" area of Funchal and is surrounded by many restaurants of various types - but the hotel's own restaurant is among the best.

The Porto Santa Maria has everything you need. Great buffet breakfasts, pleasant bedrooms complete with kitted out mini kitchens, entertainment every evening. Friendly, helpful staff with the exception of several reception staff. Guests seem to return time after time, and I'm going to be adding to the list. It has beautiful views over the sea, a quiet terrace with comfy sunloungers. Several jacuzzis. Both indoor and outdoor pools. Because of its no children stipulation it was wonderfully peaceful. Just yards away from the entrance there are several long streets full of restaurants, also a taxi rank. I can't wait to return.

Stayed at this hotel for one week commencing 1 September.I can only reiterate what so many people are saying in their reviews, it is just in a superb location convenient for a copious number of lovely restaurants, the cable car and is a leisurely stroll of about 15 minutes to the centre of Funchal. Always get a sea room view to really appreciate what this hotel has to offer. Breakfast was excellent and dinner also very good, although many people appeared to have opted for bed and breakfast only and the restaurant was therefore somewhat quiet What Jet2 Don't tell you is that you is there is an option to purchase dining offers on arrival, so you can mix and match as the mood takes you so B and B is a good option. Happy hour is excellent and actually lasts one and a half hours!! Try an amazing cocktail or two. Overall great hotel, superb location, beautiful sea view room, nice staff and high level of service, what more could you ask for?

We recently spent a week at this hotel in Funchal. The location is excellent, the rooms are extremely well maintained and the service from the staff generally great. The food in the hotel was very good especially breakfast. We only did the dinner buffet once as it's actually quite expensive and we're not the greedy guts types. Drinks are cheap enough at happy hour from 6pm to 7:30pm daily, but the cocktails actually a bit on the weak side. In summary, good value and we would recommend to friends if they're going to Madeira.

The hotel was clean, but I felt that it was for old people, with the piano and the other music,it was in a great location,a pity there's no beach,we had a good holiday, but we wouldn't go back, the view for the cable car was wonderful.

This hotel has to be in one of the best locations, right on the sea front and close to many restaurants, cable car and shops. My absolute recommendation would be to pay a little bit extra and have a sea view room, the building is only 3 storeys and we were on the ground floor, but the view even from ground level is superb. The room was spacious and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in, the bathroom is also roomy and has everything you need. We were there on a B & B basis there really is little need to book half board as there are so many great restaurants within a minute's walk. The breakfast buffet was great absolutely everything you could want from a full cooked breakfast/continental/ cereals, infact I can't think of anything that was missing and it's really nice to be able to eat outside. There's a really nice area outside for snacks and drinks during the day. The pool, as others have said is not overly large nor very deep but is more than adequate for a swim, my only adverse comment would be that to get into the pool you have to go down a short but steep ramp which is not that easy to use I saw several people almost fall getting in and out of the pool, there is a ladder at the other end but this was very loose and unstable. Having said that I would highly recommend this hotel a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and I have no doubt that we will return in the future.

We have now stayed at this hotel for 4 years in a row. The hotel is EXCELLENT. It is in the 'old town' of Funchal and that is a great location to explore Funchal, the cable car and the old town resturants and a great base to travel around the island. We booked a Suite room but I requested to be moved to another which was no problem with the staff. The staff are very friendly, very helpful and all speak very good English. Nothing seems to be to much trouble. We booked for Bed and Breakfast and we can say that the breakfast is huge - everything you could want or image and you are welcome to help yourself as many times as you wish. All rooms have a sea view and over the four years we have been I can say that all rooms are clean and fresh, modern and bright. They all come with a little kitchenette where, if desired you could prepare your own food. The rooms are serviced daily and towels etc changed whenever you wish. There are two pools, a gym, jacuzzis, loads of sunbathing areas plus a roof top terrace. I can not talk highly enough of this hotel or its staff. In short, we will be returning.

The Porto Santa Maria was recommended by our friends and neighbours who are frequent guests. It did not disappoint. It was EXCELLENT. We had a sea view room which was spacious, well equipped and super clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is brilliant. In Funchal 'old town' right on the sea front and amongst the local restaurants and visitor amenities. The staff at Santa Maria are to be commended. Everything is done to ensure guests have a great holiday. The receptionist Rubina Fernandez was brilliant. Nothing was too much of a problem. And she always had a smile for everyone. This is an adults only hotel offering great service. Two large pool areas and three jacuzzis. Lots of sunbathing space. Brilliant breakfasts with great selection and high quality ( we ate other meals out). Would recommend highly without reservation.
