Spent here one week in May 2017. Had a room in 9th floor with sea view. Great scenes! Very quiet hotel. Largest "normal" room I've visited. Breakfast was ok. Situated a few kilometres from Funchal central but it was ok to take a walk or bus to city. Big shopping centre just across the road. Would come again!
Had huge room facing the ocean last September over my birthday. Manager sent up bottle of bubbly for me. Large room with living area, kitchen and bedroom. Requested same room this visit. Extra cost for sea view is well worth it. TV has British channels. Convenient location opposite Forum shops for bus passes (upper floor) and Pingo Doce supermarket (lower floor). Bus stop close by. Airport bus (€5) stops outside. Will definitely be back!
Hotel has been modernised in 2014-15 I believe and is very tidy with good facilities, swimming pool, sun bathing beds with great view, jaccuzi and a sauna, Good pool bar as well with drinks and food. Hotel itself is a good 40mins walk (or 10 euros in a taxi which you can get just outside the hotel) from the old town where most of the good restaurants are located however there is a great restaurant just around the corner and the hotel restaurant of course. Irish bar great for Guinness and Football and big meals. We got Villa 1 which is the best right next to the cliff edge and with the best view but Villa 2-5 will also have a good view. Funchal itself although pricey is a great island. The Cable car and Toboggan run down the hill is a must. Reception staff were a big disorganised and unfriendly but that's pretty much the only negative. Good supermarket just across the road as well. Rained quite a bit in April but was still warm and we got a good tan in a week.
I booked on the morning of my visit and was very lucky to get an 8 floor studio apartment with sea view for a very reasonable cost. The place is impeccably clean, very large, with balcony and sea views. The pool and hot tub are a bonus. Seems recently refurbished.
Just back from a week at this hotel.....first trip to Madeira...... Negatives started the holiday - the receptionist was not welcoming & did not even smile at us when we arrived. The hotel had my friend's reservation, but not mine (we booked separate rooms). There was no apology & I was told they were full & I may have to go to another hotel. This was upsetting for me. Staff told us to sit in reception, & unhelpful when we asked about refreshment. We had to wait an hour for key to my friend's room, and then another 2 hours before a room was given to me. No apology for the delay, & did not find out why this happened. I had emailed the hotel a week prior to arriving, to request upper floor, seaview, & near to each other. They did not reply, but if they had checked then they could have rectified the lack of booking for me! It seems that because we booked room only, we were the "poor relations", & both had low floor rooms (on different floors to each other) with view over carpark & road. Hotel was not full, & the other 3 sides of it had views over the ocean & sunny balconies. Very disappointing, & felt almost punitive. I was disturbed all night by the noise of the fridge in room adjoining mine - it was on the other side of the wall by the head of my bed. Positives - the room was modern, clean & spacious. Well-equipped kitchen area. We did not get the milk, wine etc that a previous reviewer mentioned they got! I got a bottle of water, my friend did not. Pool area was lovely with the gorgeous views we did NOT have from our balconies. Jacuzzi was fantastic, but we thought staff should keep out small children (without parents) making a nuisance of themselves in it. There was a tucked-away sauna which we used too. Airport bus stopped practically outside hotel, so we used this for transfers. Did a tour of west of island, which was lovely, & a whale/dolphin boat trip. I love Madeira, but wouldn't return to this hotel due to lack of view.
This hotel is 4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 star quality accommodation. The room we had (806) had great views over the sea and toward the harbour, a window in the bedroom and large balcony of the livingroom. The front door leads to a small kitchen with hob, fridge, sink and cooking utensils should you require them. This leads to the living room with settee, table and chairs, TV etc. The shower room is off this and has a fantastic shower in a large cubicle, hair dryer mirror etc. The bedroom has two single beds, we pushed them together and a large double wardrobe with loads of hangers provided. There is a safe, the code is €1 per day. The room is nicely decorated and smart, comfortable and well presented. The hotel has friendly helpful staff who will give great honest advice, the facilities are nicely kept, the pool area is spotless and has changing rooms, a sauna, pool bar, plenty sun beds and a large warm jacuzzi. (pool towels provided in rooms). There is a restaurant (we did not use!), tennis court, bar. The location is fantastic, shopping centre forum over the road has shops and a supermarket, about 30 min walk to the centre or one hour the other way to camara de lobos, a small fishing village, (or €2.40 each journey on the bus if you prefer) There are nice restaurants two minutes walk away offering local cuisine, Indian and chinese. Definately recommend Donna Nina Restaurant. This hotel is a gem and provides for wheelchair ♿ users and the less able. Thank you for our great stay. We will be back. Definately recommend.
overall a nice hotel , cleanliness is very good ,rooms serviced daily . Personally though our room was surrounded by smokers so we had to pick when we could use the balcony and the bar area was completely smoker friendly (inside and out ).Pool area was very clean and service round the pool was fantastic with very friendly and helpful staff .Good links to city centre and Forum Shopping Centre just across road with supermarket we would die for in England .
We recently visited Madeira for the first time and stayed at this hotel self catering. Although it is approx 50 mins walk to the centre it was perfect for us. There are regular buses right outside the hotel. We were self catering and our apartment was fully equipped with supermarkets locally and the 'Forum' shopping centre opposite so perfect balance to self cater. Local restaurants all good and we ate in the hotel on my husbands birthday. Excellent restaurant The apartment was perfectly clean and we were welcomed with milk, water, a bottle of wine, fruit and flowers in our room on arrival. It was my husbands birthday on the day after our arrival and a staff member came and bought us a surprise bottle of bubbly in an ice bucket with glasses. I had not told them about his birthday - they must have seen the cards in the apartment. A lovely touch. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the view from our balcony was amazing. Would definitely go back
All planes out of the Aiport having been cancelled because of adverse weather conditions, overnight accommodation was organised in local hotels by the tour company. I ended up here. Huge room with separate sitting area + stove, refrigerator etc. Very clean, and a comfortable bed. Arrived at 10.00 pm, just as the hotel restaurant was supposed to close. The staff kept it open for those of us who had unexpectedly arrived. Not a very good meal, but friendly and understanding waiting staff. Given that this was an emergency, very well done to all involved.
They sent us to another hotel that was supposed to be way better, but it definitely was not! The location of the other hotel was a mile from the Forum and half a mile from the aerobics and no ocean view. We are not happy.....
