Hotel Duas Torres4.0 out of 5.0

Having been to Funchal many times previously, where we stayed in 5* hotels, we were lucky on this occasion to get accommodation at the Duas Torres with very short notice. We had never stayed in an apartment prior to this and the whole experience was excellent. Here's why: (1) We were celebrating our 40th wedding Anniversary on the day we travelled and arrived to find a welcome card and a bottle of prosecco from the General Manager Paulo. thank you Paulo. Though it was a simple touch not all hotels do this. (2) Your welcome at the desk on arrival is your first link with your holiday experience and we were greeted by a "Welcome to Paradise" by the genuinely friendly receptionist. Great start. (3) The apartment was very spacious and SPOTLESS and extremely well maintained. Throughout our stay the cleaning staff did an excellent job. The air conditioning worked perfectly and had a quiet setting for nighttime use. Bathroom, kitchen, bedroom etc. were cleaned daily. Th balcony was quite large too. (4) The whole block looked like it had been recently refurbished inside and out and looked terrific. The pool was sizeable and cleaned daily and there were more than enough sun loungers to cater for a full hotel. There was always space available. (5) Finally, with a number of excellent restaurants within yards of the hotel, which we used more than once, and a large supermarket across in the spacious Forum shopping centre it would be possible to stay there without travelling anywhere else on the island. We headed off everyday and the hotel had 1, 3 and more bus tickets on sale at discounted prices. So, would I stay there again if I got the chance? Yes, most definitely. (Thanks again Paulo, from John and Bernie in Room 403)
Stayed here for one week 6-12 September. OK this is not the best looking hotel from the exterior compared to some of the bigger hotels in the area but considering what we paid I could not complain at all. We stayed in room 903 which had fab views all round and the hotel is perfectly placed for everything, not too close to the hussle and bussle of central Funchal but easily accessible if needed. Shops and restaurants all close by. Our room was clean and modern and the cable TV was pretty good compared to some hotels I`ve stayed in. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. The pool bar is good very well priced drinks but the bar adjacent to the restaurant is a waste of time. No staff manning it and absolutely no atmosphere thus that`s why I can`t give this hotel 5, shame the bar could be so much better with a bit of imagination. Never ate in the hotel so can`t comment on that. Some reviews on here have complained about the tennis courts well we were overlooking it and never had an issue with noise, in fact it was quite entertaining at times . All I can say is we stayed at the Melia down the road a few years ago and ok it might be a bit flashier but I can honestly say we paid 3 times what we paid to stay here and I would have no qualms about coming back to the Duas Torres
Stayed here in an apartment which is part of the hotel. Receptionist was nice and helpful. Breakfast service was ok. Breakfast is continental, bread, croissants, toast, eggs in different variations, bacon, beans, etc. butter, marmalade, ham, cheese etc. after a week it gets a bit dull, but still ok. Great view from the restaurant to funchal and with sunrise in your face. Pool: only went in the afternoon between 4 and 6. there is usually 2 chairs free somewhere if you are a couple. Drinks are served until 6pm but if you ask nicely she will still serve you ;). We liked the location very much, there are restaurants nearby tailored to tourists. Also Funchal Forum (shopping center) is close and you can do some shopping for water and clothes there. Main bus 1 & 2 station is infront of the hotel.
This hotel is one of the best ive stayed in. Friendly and very helpfull staff, spotless and classy hotel .i felt totally chilled out and relaxed at this hotel and it is in a prime location. If your looking to get away from the hassles of everyday life this is the ideal place . Top marks.
FaIr hotel, with fantastic view from the hotel swimming pool and breakfast restaurant. Unfortunately the staff is not friendly nor willing to help at all. Breakfast are poor, consisting of very cheap and not tasty products. Swimming pool and the bar next to it open only till 6 p.m. The room was cleaned every day, and towels were exchanged on a daily basis. Unfortunately the new towels were sometimes...dirty. The floor was not cleaned even once throughout our stay. The same regarding mirrors or windows. Safe, iron or every additional equipment is extra charged...in a 4 star hotel?? That is amazing and rather pathetic. Because of the hotel staff mistake we have been checked out after one week even though we had reservation for two weeks. It has been an obviuos staff mistake, which was extremely unpleasant to us. We were not even apologized.
Stayed here at end August, hotel nice and clean, only had bed and breakfast, which was the same ever day..no variation...the hotel is clean, staff good no entertainment so was very dead most of the time.if you had children it would be a nightmare..pool is nice cleaned everyday,so where the rooms...would I stay here again ..no ...to quite
The location is good, standard is poor max. 2 stars. Breakfasts are boring and from cheapest products. We were placed in room C5 for disabled people where you can actually hurt yourself when taking a shower or washing the face in the sink. Only a complain could resolve it and we have been moved to another room. I won't recommend the hotel itself but the location is good for trips when you rent a car.
This hotel is not a four star by any stretch of the imagination. You have to hire everything except for the fridge. If you hired everything that they suggested it would cost ax fortune for a 2 week holiday. I wondered if they treat single travellers differently to people travelling in two's as I was put in the worst room possible stuck in a corner overlooking g the air conditioning units with no view at all and no sun on the balcony. I think its a little known fact as I have assessed in previous reviews that the restaurant and bars are owned separately to the hotel. I had an experience with the manager/part owner of the restaurant and found he was extremely rude. I reported him to the hotel manager at the time and this is how I found out. When we were in the hotel bar we had to go and look for a member of staff to serve us as they didn't have the bar manned at all. Some nights it took 15\20 minutes to get someone to serve us. The Botel staff were extremely nice and I got on with them really well. Its a shame I can't say the same for the restaurant team. I won't be returning g to Madeira.
Amazing place, they offer a lot. Decent breakfast and nice pool with oceanview. Towels changed every day, room cleaned as well. One minus in our case: hard and uncomfortable twin beds that squeaked like tired badgers.
Suite with full sea view on 11th floor . One of the biggest rooms available comprising of kitchen and spacious living area bedroom with double bed and bathroom . Balcony with full sea view . The suite has a few things you don't get in the other rooms a coffee machine ,toaster, fruit and a complimentary bottle of maderia wine . Everything you need or require is basically in this room . Your minutes away from the forum shopping centre that has a supermarket and places to eat . The staff are really friendly helpful and nothing is too much . Bus tickets are now available from reception for the yellow buses that stop outside the hotel and take you into funchal town centre . On the ground floor is a restaurant for breakfast and evening meals but you can find cheeper places to eat within a few minutes walk . The pool and jacuzzi area also has a bar where snacks can be purchased. Highly recommend this place but would suggest the restaurant is a little expensive for evening meals .
