Having stayed at several hotels in Madeira over the years this hotel was a solid good. The rooms were reasonably big and cleaned daily. The studio room was useful especially for the space and for the fridge. You do have to pay extra for a toaster or kettle (and the safe). We had a view overlooking the pool and the sea which was lovely. The pool and surrounding areas were clean and the jacuzzi was warm and spacious. There were a number of young children who thought it was a pool most of time but as we were out most days it didn’t really bother us. It’s a good walk into Funchal (at least 30mins to the marina area) but there is Madeira Forum, a shopping centre with a supermarket just over the road. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby and there is a pathway you can walk along which links the lido area all the way to Camara de lobos. We were there for the New Year fireworks which are defiantly worth going to see. Had a lovely stay and would recommend as a good base to explore this beautiful island.
We spent a week in December in Duas Torres. The hotel is 40 min walk from the old town which is close enough to be accessible by walk, while far enough to be far from the crowd and have peace. The staff was helpful. The rooms were cleaned regularly. The hotel also has a nice pool facing the ocean, ( although the water was really cold, but the beds, facing the ocean, were offering an amazing view to spend an afternoon and sunbathing ). The rooms/ Apartments have a mini-kitchen which we found useful and sufficient. We didn't have the breakfast in our package, but there is a nice cafe on the other side of the street and also a big supermarket and shopping mall close by. There is also a direct airport bus (5 Euros) to the hotel. There are just a few minor issues that can be taken into account when booking (or possibly room for improvement) 1-Sometimes, in the lobby you could smell a weird smell from the kitchen.. 2- The Iron and the safe was not included in the deal, and you should pay extra if you wanna use them. 3- The beds are single and not the most comfortable type, but it was not a big deal for a week. 4- The hotel doesn't have an indoor pool. 5- We payed an extra (100 euros) for a sea view, although it was not a real sea view, ( more of a lateral sea view). But all and all, we definitely recommend the hotel.
Stayed in a self catering studio facing inland. Lovely very large single beds and balcony with table and chairs. All the facilites were great especially the power shower.Room cleaned and towels changed every day. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The pool is beautiful with a great view and plenty of good quality sunbeds ,a lovely jacuzzi and pool bar. We didn't use the restaurant but it looked very nice. Convenient for restaurants, cafes, shops, including a supermarket, the promenade walk and for buses into Funchal. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend this as a lovely and inexpensive hotel.
We stayed a week at the Duas Torres and enjoyed the hotel immensely. From arrival to departure all the staff we met were fabulous and certainly did an excellent job in keeping the hotel clean and running very well. Our studio was spacious, had everything we needed and was attended daily by the housekeeping staff who were always efficient and cheerful. The sea view was great and much appreciated. The shower was powerful and just what we needed first thing in the morning. The shower gel smelt amazing! We found the beds started to become a little uncomfortable towards the end of our week but this is only a minor point. The pool area was well maintained and the pool guys were there every day doing their water monitoring procedures. The pool snack bar was reasonably priced and the friendly staff always insisted on taking our drinks to our sunbeds on a tray for us. We felt this was a nice touch and says a lot about the service we received at the hotel. A young lady there was always very bright and cheerful and was kind and patient in helping me with my attempts in improving my Portuguese. We didn't choose the breakfast option when we booked our stay although we did choose to take the buffet breakfast on a couple of occasions. This was simply a case of paying at reception (10 euros per person) and obtaining a voucher which we then handed to the restaurant on arrival. The breakfast buffet was a little limited but good quality and both the inside and outside areas were spacious and spotless. The hotel is very well placed, close to an excellent supermarket, shops (including a good take-away and a laundry service), sea swimming area, bus stop, taxi rank and a few restaurants. Despite this though it is just out of the somewhat busier Lido area and off the main road as it is on a side road adjacent to it, a plus for us as we appreciate our peace and quiet. We didn't dine at the hotel for lunch or dinner and so cannot comment although the menu we observed was varied and the prices competitive. The only disappointment for us (although this may be a plus for some) was that smoking was permitted in the bar area and so our first visit was short lived as we left without even ordering a drink. We have stayed in a number of hotels on the island over the years and the Duas Torres compares favourably. It is smaller than we are used to but has all the service and facilities we expect and we would definitely book again.
This is a really nice good value hotel in an excellent location. The place was spotless - the maids do a great job. Lots of nice restaurants and bars close by and just across the road from the Forum Shopping Mall. You can get the number 1 and 2 buses just outside the hotel, which take you in to the centre/marina/old town in no time or you can take a taxi from the rank just outside the Forum. Special thanks to Paulo Freitas and staff for looking after us so well.
Good hotel with free parking and great, warm Jacuzzi which was incredible in November. Personnel were very kind and even when confirmation from booking website was not sent to the hotel then this was not problem and we received room with the same price. Hotel was clean and modern. Not far from buss stop (and city tour services) and supermarket. Wifi in the room. Generally great vacation in the Autumn
I really liked the hotel due to few reasons. One the view from the balcony was perfect. It was a real and full sea view where we could see bot sunrise and sunset. We had breakfast in the balcony and enjoyed it very much. Two the room was big and bright, with air conditioning which we really needed due to sunny side of the building. Three kitchenette was well equipped, but could have been better. If you want to have water boiler need to pay 1eur a day, toaster 1 eur a day, iron 2 eur a day, etc. Room service was good, but never did more than changing kitchen towel in the kitchenette. Also all glass surfaces didn't look clean, I could see some dirt on walls in the bathroom too. The pool area was not crowded at all and was open untill 18.00.
Duas Torres is our favourite in Funchal. The reason is first of all the great views from the hotel-apartments. Especially xx.05, with 11.05 on top floor of cause with the best wiews. The apartments are different in size and layout, that goes for the balconies as well. Quite basic apartments, but they have what you need. Poolarea is nice and never too busy. What to improve? Well, breakfast is poor and we preferred to make our breakfast ourselves and had it on the balcony, enjoying the view. There is a great bakery on the other of the street, and the super market, Pingo Doce in the Forum Center has all you need. Staff are good, some staffmembers though, could need an education in customer service. Duas Torres charge you for things, that should be included: use of safe, coffemachine, el-kettle, iron. A minor thing, yes, but annoying. That said, we like Duas Torres and will be back.
Great relaxing quiet location good shops and brilliant restaurants locally. Were coming back which is unusual for us but a must. Rooms well furnished modern comfortable beds with great showers. Fresh towels and rooms cleaned daily.
Having been to Funchal many times previously, where we stayed in 5* hotels, we were lucky on this occasion to get accommodation at the Duas Torres with very short notice. We had never stayed in an apartment prior to this and the whole experience was excellent. Here's why: (1) We were celebrating our 40th wedding Anniversary on the day we travelled and arrived to find a welcome card and a bottle of prosecco from the General Manager Paulo. thank you Paulo. Though it was a simple touch not all hotels do this. (2) Your welcome at the desk on arrival is your first link with your holiday experience and we were greeted by a "Welcome to Paradise" by the genuinely friendly receptionist. Great start. (3) The apartment was very spacious and SPOTLESS and extremely well maintained. Throughout our stay the cleaning staff did an excellent job. The air conditioning worked perfectly and had a quiet setting for nighttime use. Bathroom, kitchen, bedroom etc. were cleaned daily. Th balcony was quite large too. (4) The whole block looked like it had been recently refurbished inside and out and looked terrific. The pool was sizeable and cleaned daily and there were more than enough sun loungers to cater for a full hotel. There was always space available. (5) Finally, with a number of excellent restaurants within yards of the hotel, which we used more than once, and a large supermarket across in the spacious Forum shopping centre it would be possible to stay there without travelling anywhere else on the island. We headed off everyday and the hotel had 1, 3 and more bus tickets on sale at discounted prices. So, would I stay there again if I got the chance? Yes, most definitely. (Thanks again Paulo, from John and Bernie in Room 403)
