GOOD Very central great location. Possible free parking at hotel a few doors away but not guaranteed. Only a few spaces so first come first get. Supermarket next door is handy. BAD Chopped up foam cube pillows were very strange. Thread bare towels. Terrible breakfast/ stale rolls. Basic. All served in a tiny windowless room. Ended up going to the cafe down the road.
Great location with elevator, friendly, helpful and informative staff; very clean, plenty of hot water and a very good shower; plentiful continental breakfast-delicious seeded rolls and interesting banana jam. Weird filling in pillows but to my surprise extremely comfortable. Would use this hotel again. Free and reliable wifi. Catherine
This hotel is a perfect base to get to all areas. A supermarket next door, Very handy. The only thing that was a negative were the beds. These were uncomfortable but you get used to them after a day. The breakfast was basic, Rolls, cheese, ham and cereal but set you up for the day.
The hotel is well positioned, right in the centre of Funchal and within easy reach of numerous good restaurants. The hotel is basic, room and bathroom was a good size but if you are expecting nice fluffy towels, forget it, but they were always nice and clean and changed daily. Room service has a lot to be desired as twice we had to ask for shower towels and on one occasion our room had not been made up. It was eventually after two phone calls and finally done at 5 pm. Breakfast is adequate, cereals and rolls with plastic ham and soapy cheese. Fruit juice, tea snd coffee available. Fresh fruit was available but did not look very appetising. Only on two occasions were there about 4 bananas but on another day tinned peaches, followed by the rest of the week with tinned fruit salad. If you want somewhere central, with a good supermarket right next door, and just somewhere to put you head down it's fine, but don't expect comfortable pillows, they are small, square and filled with lumpy foam. Also the mattresses have a lot to be desired with springs sticking through, I had to lay on the edge to enable me to sleep, not good.
Had this hotel forced us as a last minute replacement. Would not have chose it myself. In a very busy area. Staff are mostly good. Particular praise to receptionists Flavia and Sandra - who were always helpful and friendly. Rooms are adequate. Beds are very good - but pillows are terrible. Bathroom is good. All is cleaned daily. Balcony was about 2 sq metres onto a roof - which was barricaded off. Other side of hotel would be over a busy road - so probably worse. While we were there all water was turned off at least 5 times - for several hours at time. Also, we had 2 separate leaks from WC.
Do Centro - well named as it is a central hotel in Funchal, handy for just about all you need in the city - is a no frills well priced hotel. The room was clean and spacious with a balcony from which you could see the ocean and the cathedral, not to mention the enormous cruise liners when they arrived. Towels were changed daily, although their soft and fluffy days were long gone. Staff were friendly and Seraphine on reception was really helpful chasing our airport transport. Breakfast was basic but enough, however what was disappointing was, in a city with fruit stalls on almost every corner, is that all that was on offer was tinned fruit cocktail - just a shame. Overall - good value
The hotel is located in center Funchal but in need of an urgent refurbishing. The room and bathroom was of a good size but the furniture is a bit old. To get the wright water temperature in the shower was really hard, when the temperature was good, next door neighbor opened the tap and my shower turned cold. Remind of drinking a few "ponchas" (traditional Madeira´s cocktail) before going to bed otherwise you will feel all the springs in your mattress and have a lousy night ! Didn't have breakfast in the hotel.
The best of this hotel is in fact it's location! Is located in the center of Funchal and you can walk everywhere in the center. The Rooms should be renovated and modernized and the breakfast should be more complete.
The hotel is acceptable, clean, with the basic conditions for a good night of sleep. I stayed in a triple bedroom with a big window facing the main street (but not very agreeable). The bathroom was big enought, but a litle "seedy".. Everything was clean but nothing was improved, only WC faces a good inovation. The space is quite modest, old-fashioned decor and with very limiting access: there was only one outlet in the entire division of my room!! Unbelievable!!! In the morning, we easily heard noises of people chatting outside the rooms... around 8.00 am.. impossible to sleep (maybe because our room was in the 1first floor. Breakfast is poor, quite small, but decent and tasty: there´s coffe, milk, 3 types of brad and juice with with the usual equipment (cheese, ham, butter, jam). Although, the location is perfect, you can walk to the main attractions within 5 mins - court, cathedral, etc. Also, if you have a car you are very close to the mains streets to travel. My stay was good. If I would stay here again? I don´t know... Positive: - location is perfect. - clean and cheap. - easy to park the car. - Staff is professional. Negative - old fashion. - bad facilities. - no mini bar or fridge. - no FREE-WIFI!! (How is this possible?) - bad mattresses (for a 3 star hotel not aceptable!) - bathrooms need to improve. - one outlet in the room!
I stayed a week with my wife in familiar Do Centro -hotel. The location for hiker is perfect, because most of the bus stops are within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is a little bit modest, but the basics are in good condition: The staff is professional and friendly and the hotel and the rooms are kept very clean. The new benefit is that the quests of the hotel can use the roof pool of the very near hotel Windsor. It was always empty when we visited the pool. The breakfast is small, I have to admit, but the rolls are fresh, tea is fine and the cheese and ham are OK. I have noticed that if I manage at home to lunch with one roll, why should I eat more on a holiday? I will be hungry after 4 hours even if I had for breakfast a horse. The management should consider about buying mattresses to beds.
